As the saying goes; "You can run but you can't hide".
When the day comes to get the judges decision, that judge will look over the entire case given all the facts. If found that these firefighters were wrongly laid off given any written contract, that could be the deciding factor. As a result, Port Chester's residents/taxpayers could end up paying the price for those dictators wrongful actions. Add in the fact that 4,300 taxpayer signatures were collected to RETAIN those firefighters. Should that happen, once AGAIN the spot light will shine on Port Chester as a "Lesson Learned".
I would assume that it could later take place that some residents might then pursue some type action against those who made the final decision to lay off these eight firefighters. It just could happen that ANOTHER LESSON could be learned as well.
This story may NOT be ending now. It could actually be only the beginning.

When you listen to the story, he returned to work after the Truck incident and was injured again some time later. Then they jerk him around for his benefits. I suppose we should not be surprised given that the City is Mount Vernon and this a firefighter. Bureaucrats, sharing the bottom rung with Politicians.

Excellent point. Apparently those THREE Chiefs have not only put the citizens and their property at risk, but with their decision to eliminate those eight career firefighters, they have put their own members at risk as well. I am very glad to see that some of Port Chester's own volunteer firefighters realize that. It doesn't really matter which T-shirt or uniform you wear. Firefighters get hurt and even sometimes die while performing their duties.
Those three chiefs should have NEVER recommended the removal of the "PC8". The chiefs have apparently proven to many the real lack of knowledge within the fire service they have. As well as the total lack of concern they have for those who must depend on them. For any fire chief to recommend the elimination of any firefighters under their command goes AGAINST everything taught or learned from past experience.
The best thing those chiefs can do is to make amends and admit their foolish mistake by bringing back those eight career firefighters. The first step is to bring back those eight firefighters. The next thing for those chiefs is to readily admit how wrong they were. Fire Chiefs are human too. They make mistakes as well. But it is much easier to admit a mistake like this now, Rather than NOT admit a mistake today and attend a funeral later because they wouldn't.

Sorry to hear that a collusion is suspected. How about Rye Brook picking up the eight PCFD firefighters and giving their area 24 hour fire protection for the same or nearly the same million dollars they are now paying Port Chester.
They could be self sufficient and escape from the annual contract drama.

Enough is enough, the firefighters need to get out the citizens who pay for fire protection and are not getting it .They need to March on city hall and make their voices heard to make a change now open the closed station, put the proper manpower on duty, stop the bull.... Before a travesty happens.

The real problem is not if they should consolidate, its how can MV participate equally? YFD provides excellent fire protection to its citizens, while the political climate in MV is to rely on the neighbors.
The real issue is every career and combo will call back off duty firefighters to man spare apparatus or provide additional personnel to the scene during a major emergency, EXCEPT Mt Vernon. The MV Mayor expects everyone around them to pick up that cost.

The real question that needs to be asked is this, "Is it really MUTUAL AID? The definition of MUTUAL is "reciprocal", or to make it more simple, party one helps party two when party two needs help and party two helps party one when party one needs help and it is done on a more or less equal basis. So, my question is, does anyone know how often Mount Vernon responds Mutual Aid to Yonkers compared with how often Yonkers responds Mutual Aid to Mount Vernon? And if Mount Vernon does respond Mutual Aid to Yonkers, does it do so with a similar complement of equipment and manpower? and does it do so with similar frequency?
If there is NOT reciprocity, if it is all one way with Yonkers responding to Mount Vernon but never the other way around, then perhaps Yonkers should consider terminating any agreement it has to respond into Mount Vernon.
There is a growing problem across the country of understaffed departments counting too much on mutual aid plans for coverage and then not being able to fulfill their half of mutual aid when the other department really needs mutual aid.

In 1975, Yonkers FD had a 405 uniform force that was running 13 engine companies, 7 truck companies, and 1 rescue company
In 2015, Yonkers FD had a 459 uniform force that was running 11 engine companies (including Squad 11), 6 truck companies [ladders] and 1 rescue company
