"Titles" don't put food on your table, money does. Who cares about titles as long as your fairly compensated for what you do. If people are paid at a higher rate of pay for being the "shift supervisors" then a "title" shouldn't be much of an issue.

There is a quick fix for some crossover Boundary line issues. They can be moved, as in Pleasantville's case when they traded Smith Street and Mill River Road some years back with Chappaqua Fire District for area's in the Hardscrabble Fire Protection district. Your right in that in most cases, it comes down to control over their empire if you will and "home rule" mentality that isn't likely to change in our lifetimes.

Best thing to do is to pick up an amature radio operators license (i'd suggest initially a technicans grade). There are various amature radio clubs in the Hudson Valley area which can assist you in getting your license, plus some can even administer the test to you. Once you get your license its good for ten (10) years before you have to renew it. The test for technicans grade is composed primarily of questions based on rules and regulations and frequencies your allowed to operate on. There might be a few technical questions, but you can easily learn them. Once you get your license and if you feel the need you can always upgrade to General or Extra Class, thus giving you further priveleges on the amature band. Oh and btw, code is no longer required for Technicans grade.

Chris, I think most of the people in here are sick and tired of flaying a dead mule. Most likely they are tired of debating this issue time over time when most of them know the chances of change happening in our lifetimes are nil, thus rendering the subject a moot point.

The kid was probably telling the Trooper he was "number one". lol

Most likely because these small number of people vote and happen to be very vocal on their position regardning the budget and as we all know, politiicans tend to listen to those who vote. Instead of being passive, if more people got off their collective butts and voted and participated in the system, perhaps the outcome might have been different.

Its really too bad; you hate to see someone lose their job over no fault of their own doing; unfortunatley, it's probably just the tip of the iceberg. It'll probably get worse before it gets better. Never knew they had so many employees tho'.

I'd much rather let them put an American flag on their helmets as opposed to the wingnuts who put their helmets into ovens and/or burnish them with a blow torch to acheive the "desired" effect.

The first thing that comes to mind is this: what does the collective bargaining agreement say regarding continuence of medical benefits when injuries occur on-the-job? Most labor contracts have specific provisions addressing benefits when the employee is out on medical leave in relation to on-the-job injuries.

The answer is simple; you do the possible, the impossible is just going to have to wait.

Finally, someone who's showing some common sense in this thread.

I'm only guessing, but perhaps it was because they'd have more control over law enforcement and allocation of resources in their village? Eitherway i'm sure they had there reasons (aside from monetary) to create their own department.

So, they are not without coverage at night then. Not as bad as I thought it was.

Won't the State Police respond in there if needed at night?

Guess i'll keep my gas mask handy.

Why in earth would New York City want to inherit Mount Vernon's headaches???
-
We should probably count our blessings; everytime we get called out means someone is having some sort of grief. Even tho' its not realistic, it would be nice to go months without any calls.
-
Eitherway, the guy needs to get checked out and a clean bill of health before they allow him back on the job.

My goodness, the way everyone in here appears to be worrying, their all going to develop ulcers if they are not careful. lol

While in my opinion, I think both Obama and McCain are nothing more then a bunch of crooks in business suits, President-Elect Obama won and since i respect the office of the President, i'm willing to give him a chance to see what he does (or doesn't do). Besides, I don't things can get any worse then they are now.

It would seem to me that your life would be more important to you and your loved ones then continuing to be able to fight fires. You could always find a job to earn money even though its not your chosen profession. I think it makes complete sense if fire departments, both paid and volunteer, want to require and pay for stress tests for their employees.

Guess he and his wife are not Liz Feld fans.

While we are on the topic; anyone have any idea what year the last of the volunteers in Poughkeepsie were phased out/disbanded?
-
You sure it was a vollie? perhaps secret service? Afterall you have a former President living nearby.

Write to FASNY and give them your opinion. If they don't hear from enough members, they'll assume that no one objects to what they're doing and continue to go down the path they are currently following.
