  1. There was a Mountain Lion spotted in Wingdale about perhaps 8 or 9 years ago; I remember the forest ranger came by and told people to keep their young children out of the woods until it could be trapped. I never heard anything else on it so I assumed it was captured.
  2. Lets put it this way; Its a place you don't ever want to go or be associated with; nor does any rational person for that fact of the matter.
  3. I think the burning issue here is whether or not the cigarette was the direct cause of the fire.
  4. I think its time to modify the rules so they have coverage under 207a & 207c. It makes no sense to treat them different other police agencies. It might not help those two police officers in question, but at least others down the road who are injured on the job.
  5. I'm not trying to be a smart a**, but if we use your analogy, no one told you where to live so if your taxes are high, don't complain; no one told you what career path to follow so if you are unhappy with your raise, or have to work weekends or nights, don't complain. You knew what the taxes could be when you moved into your home and you knew that home values could always drop in the event of a recession, so don't complain. You should have known that these things happen. Admittedly, they make good monies; but remember they also invest a small fortune in education; all public school teachers have at a minimum both a Bachelors and Masters Degree, plus state certification. You add that all up and you find out that its a tidy sum of money. Not for nothing, I can't begin to tell you how many teachers spend money out of their own pockets to purchase supplies for their students because the district cuts funding and without the teachers chipping in to buy the basics, its the students who lose. For those of you who belong to unions, we all need to realize the importance of supporting each other in tough times.
  6. I'm not sure if thats such a good idea. I'm sure the teachers would take issue with that concept; it'd be the same thing as privatizing the prisions or fire service. I'm sure if fire districts started contracting out fire protection to Rural Metro, you'd have every firefighter up in arms over that. Perhaps the teachers might not quibble over something like 20 years and out with a pension along the lines of what firefighters or police enjoy as opposed to lifetime jobs. Additionally most teachers put in long hours; most of them bring home work at night; grade papers, prepare assignments for the next day's class, research topics and they don't get paid overtime when they do that either. I'm sure most of them earn their money just like the rest of us do.
  7. Good luck selling it to the Westchester County taxpayers. There are some in here who have mentioned the county is the most taxed in the country. Most taxpayers, right or wrong, could care less about special units being formed, especially given the state of the present economy. You didn't open a can of worms here, you knocked over a bucket of rattlesnakes.
  8. Welcome to the world of organized labor. Its an important first step and I'm sure once you have a contract in place, everyone will notice the positive difference in your wages and working conditions.
  9. It's tough to keep the working press (those with proper credentials from an authorized agency) away from accident/fire/ems scenes. In many cases they will cross fire lines that have been established and if you challenge them, it can get very ugly, very quickly. In many cases it can involve litigation against the agency who prevented the press from crossing the line. The general public is much easier to contain; putting up a fire/police ems line generally solves the problem and if the gawkers insist on crossing the line, you can always sic the police or fire police on them. Legally, as long as they stay outside the fire/police lines and/or as long as they are not interfering with the operations/placing themselves in danger they can shoot/tape all they want.
  10. How do you know they are Hams? Did they give call signs? More likely, its probably citizen band operators, who operate using linear amps that are causing the interference. If they are close enough, it could overload the receiving circuits on your scanner. Or it could be a CB base station with an illegally high power output.
  11. Times are really tough in Massachusetts given the condition of the economy. Numerous Public Safety Officers jobs are in danger of losing their jobs due to budget shortfall. http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/18711377/detail.html
  12. Booster lines have their place; they are good for very small piles of leaves burning or perhaps a waste paper basket; I wouldn't use it on anything else tho'.
  13. Good luck getting the bills passed; you'll have lobbyists coming out of the woodwork on behalf of every college, house of worship and every other not-for-profit organization. Even it it were passed, it would be in the courts for years. BTW i think your right; unless there's something in it for Shelly, it'll never come out of committee.
  14. I believe you are correct. I'd also think that falsely stating that you are an active volunteer when in fact your not even part of the volunteer fire service would have legal consequences.
  15. Do they pay you for the exposure to the RF generated by the transmitters?
  16. Thanks for your fast reply.
  17. I've always been tempted to call Dutchess 911 on the radio as "14 control" to see what, if any reaction there would be from them.
  18. What about volunteer houses who roster FF's that bunk in and have round the clock coverage? Does it make a difference in the ISO rating?
  19. I don't believe you can be forced to utilized the government system; if you want you can stay with your private physician and not use government doctors or facilities. But if you use the government plan and they are paying for it, i'm sure they would want to have a say in the treatment you received.
  20. The New York Post, under the continuing leadership of Rupert Murdoch, is your typical conservative anti-union/anti-worker/anti-labor journalistic rag since he bought it and most likely will stay that way until he sells it or corks off & the paper is sold to someone else. They have the nerve to call it a newspaper? Ha! In my opinion, its nothing more then a fifth-grade produced classroom newsletter. Best used as a cat-box liner.
  21. I'll admit the Dutchess County FF's tend to get along nicely in here and Its always nice working with neighboring fire departments when called for mutual aid.
  22. You are correct; my certificate say's "Fireman" on it.
