  1. Does Newburgh have volunteers? Or is it a 100% paid department?
  2. going from tube radios to solid state; thus improving communication, transmitter/receiver stability and allowing numerous capabilities.
  3. Calling the ASPCA and filing a complaint is probably the best mechanism to use to address the issue.
  4. I don't think anybody here has said that they did (Emerald Society).
  5. KCRD, can you please point out to me in any of my posts in this thread where I stated that anything about "racial quota's"? All I said was that both are organizations representing groups of people based on either racial or ethnic origin and they each have their specific agenda; Nothing more; nothing less. What your talking about above is from your mouth and not mine.
  6. Sorry but I have to disagree with you completely. Both are organizations representing groups of people based on either racial or ethnic origin and they each have their specific agenda. IMHO I think if anyone denies that, then they are not being honest with themselves.
  7. That wasn't the thrust of my post. It was stated why should the vulcans be allowed to exist? So if you read my post, I stated the obvious rational for the vulcans being allowed to exist. The groups I mentioned have certain requirements in order to become a member; each has their own agenda they put forth. I honestly see no issue with that line of thinking.
  8. Key word here: "supposed". Racial/ethnic discrimination still goes on (not just in NY, but around the nation) in various forms whether you want to admit it or not. The Vulcans are allowed because other groups such as the Emerald Society, Columbia Association, etc are allowed to exist. I've been following this thread since its inception and its too bad its evolved to this point because in all honesty, its starting to become an embarassment. In my opinion, I think its time to close it as it outlived its usefulness a long time ago.
  9. I think its a very noble idea, but if the airlines partner with one group then they'd end up having every group in the world demand the same treatment. I think the concept of having the fire union's pick up the tab for airfare might be more workable and easier to accomplish as opposed to approaching the airlines for ticket relief.
  10. Kudos to YPD for a job well done. The death penalty would be to light a sentence. I'd rather see him incarcerated permanently so he can rot in a box they call a cell.
  11. May he find eternal rest in God's kingdom.
  12. The police will do the possible; the impossible will just have to wait.
  13. The show is like everything that the networks feed to the American public--Fantasy--and the general public swallows it hook, line & sinker. Thats all its supposed to be anyhow and anyone who takes that stuff seriously needs to have their heads examined. Don't forget its all about ratings; if the networks really showed our jobs like they truly are, then they'd have no ratings. Lets be honest with each other. A majority of the time our jobs are boring; at least in the eyes of the public. "Lets all watch the firemen wash the fire truck or do a building inspection!!..That sounds like fun to me" or imagine if the TV show "Cops" focused on what a majority of non-city cops do at night; drive around, check door knobs, hand out parking tickets or coop? Or an EMS show where the crew gets to sanitize the bus or insert an IV into a patient recored live on film?? That'd pull in alot of ratings wouldn't it? Its all about fantasy and nothing more; the producers are just touching it up to make it more palatable for the viewers. If you want to watch more realistic shows, then try the History Channel or Discovery; its probably a better alternative then watching paint dry or a fly crawl up a drape.
  14. Throat cancer in a can!
  15. On the positive side, you can probably write off the cost of the licensing fees on your income taxes.
  16. It's common sense to wear your seatbelts. They are there for a reason; you safety and the safety of the others in the truck.
  17. Overtime got cut....
  18. No, your saying that I'm not. While it may be in your opinion the best way to prove intoxication, people have rights against medical procedure(s) being done on an objecting individual. Furthermore, police have the option of using the so-called "breathalyzer" test on suspected intoxicated drivers. It might help to consider that some people have an inherent fear of needles and this alone could cause undue mental stress and strain on someone terrified of needles not to mention the potential physical impact. And suppose the test comes up negative? What do you say to the person you forceably took blood from? Sorry sir, this was done in the interest of justice? Finally I don't think that anyone in this forum has ever maintained that DWI isn't a crime. Its just the methods employed to gather evidence which is in dispute here.
  19. How about the Fourth Amendment for starters? There are already cases on record where convictions have been overturned due to blood sample being drawn against the individuals protests. To wet your whisle, try State v. Ravotto, No. A-45-00 (New Jersey State Supreme court).
  20. It's just as wonderful as someone who isn't drunk running a stop sign and t-boning a car. This is not an argument about protecting drunk drivers; its an argument about protecting peoples rights. You've already got the breathalyzer to use. You really want to steeply reduce drunk driving? Eliminate the sales of alcohol in this country.
  21. That's just wonderful, doing a medical procedure on someone without their consent. It's decisions like this that keep the ACLU in business.
  22. Technically your correct; however I honestly believe that the police in NY have much better things to do then chase down fire apparatus for blue light violations.
  23. I wonder what impact it'll have on their ISO rating?
  24. Like it or not there are members who, by their own admission joined up strictly because of the benefits received (LOSAP, Medical, Free town Rec passes, etc). That was the purpose of the laws passed by Albany; and in some departments its working well. In others, maybe not so much but as an alternative to hiring a full time force of firefighters, its an acceptable method of maintaining certain levels of volunteers (aka "under compensated firefighters"). I know there are some volunteers and paid (aka "properly compensated fire fighters") on this board who are opposed to the LOSAP program; the paid firefighters is a given, but let me ask all those volunteers who are opposed to LOSAP; if you are opposed to LOSAP, no one is forcing you to accept enrollment into the program. How many of you publicly trash the program but yet are willing to accept payment when you hit age 62? If you do, your are nothing more then a hypocrite. If you don't, then I salute you for standing by your principals. The fire service continues to evolve, both technology-wise and business-wise, whether you or I like it or not so its high time to embrace the changes that are occurring.
  25. Up until your first post, it was a condolence thread.
