Hi All, I am considering volunteering as an EMT and was curious about whether I can just take a local EMT course and then choose which agency I'd like to volunteer for, or if I should do it vice versa. I believe the way it works is that you pay out of pocket for the course, but there is reimbursement is available upon joining a local team. Can anyone confirm this and give me advice as to whether I should consider first choosing an agency instead? Thanks! cfman

Thanks v much for the feedback! Very insightful. I will do more work to find out

Thanks. And is it possible to do driver or attendant only with less training? With my full time job, it could be difficult to take the EMT-B course.

Supposedly Hawthorne has a "snow standby" tonight starting @ 9PM. Can anyone explain what this means?

Seems like a lot of construction is underway at the Heathcote Five Corners. The old Scarsdale VAC building appears to be a construction company's "base" and further down Weaver Street (across from Big Top, Amore Pizza, etc), they have totally flattened the land as if they're going to build something there. Anyone know the exact details of the development here? It's going to be a traffic nightmare.

Here's a video I put together a while back. I posted it to this site last year. If it gets promoted to page 1, Break.com pays a cash prize. I will ensure that the cash prize is donated directly to a fund for September 11th victims. In any event, please watch the video & remember. All those who serve us should be blessed. http://www.break.com/usercontent/2008/9/se...get-567520.html

Anyone aware of anything going on at the Bronxville train station? At around 6:15PM there were multiple PD units as well as FD and an FD supervisor at the end of the platform. Seems like there may have been an injured person, although the response seemed a bit overkill for just that.

Wow. Interested in knowing if anyone knows anything further...they even switched at least one train off those tracks due to the incident.

I saw a post from a while back about New Rochelle's 30A3 ambulance. For a short time, I used to see it quite often in the driveway at Station 5 (E25's home), but I no longer see it there.Where is this unit stationed, and what's its designated area currently? Is it operating 24x7? Thanks.

Anyone with details on the stabbing that occurred this afternoon on Main Street in New Rochelle?
-
Hah - forgive me, but I was looking for someone to say something along the lines of an incident alert showing which units responded or something like: PD responded to a fight between two males around 4PM on Main Street. One man was found with several with several stab wounds. PD convassed the area including the surrounding projects and didn't find anything. It was believed to be an argument over X or gang-related or whatever. I didn't ask for patient info & I'm not looking for "insider" info.

I think there was a major incident on the Hutch this afternoon by the Webster Ave exit in New Rochelle. Multiple PD units along with two helicopters. Any ideas?

Was there any sort of robbery or incident in New Rochelle on Pinebrook BLVD? This morning around 10AM, I saw multiple units there, including 2 Town of Mamaroneck cars. It seemed like whatever happened was over, since the cars didn't have lights on, but I can't be sure. Any news?

The really important question is whether or not anyone will actually save any money from all this. From what I've heard, hybrids offer no financial benefits right now. (Yes, they do offer environmental benefits)

My company can handle the creation of stickers. Let me know what you all are interested in and I'd be glad to help out. RK

Not to hijack the thread, but it seems like most people are very eager to get into 911 and don't like transports as much - which is understandable. Do any companies allow medics to just do transports on their ambulance?

Just a question - is Greenville part of Greenburgh or something? I've lived in the lower Westchester area for years and never heard of a "Greenville." I see they responded - that's why I ask.

What does a new rig generally cost? Over $100k?
