NWFDMedicPosted Today, 10:03 AM Great job Arlington. I actually relieved our crew that transported the patient to the LZ and they were very impressed with all of your firefighters Anyone who knows AFD know that they have top notch FF's and Medic's so it is no surprise that they once again did a phenomenal job. I had the honor of doing my Paramedic ride time with them and saw first had their professionalism, compassion and exceptional skills.........AFD a job well done once again!!!!!!!!! AFD Medic's are by far THEE BEST out there!

xfirefighter484x I couldn't agree with you more. I have the good fortune to work the commericial Agency that provides ALS services to them and they are a Great bunch of guys always there and willing to step in and give a hand and back the Medic up It's an honor to work with some who I sincerely call friends.

My frist call as a Medic student in AFD. The call came in as a "unknown medical" then updated to "allergic reaction" when my Medic preceptor and I entered the home the husband was found lying on the floor between the sink and refrigerator wheezing, diaphoretic, tachycardic and covered in hives. He had been stung by 5 bees. Never had an allergy before..... Also I have a child who ate th age of 5 had an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts and she had been eating peanut butter since an infant. Luckily I have an epi pen for her at school at CCD and a spare that she carries when she leaves the house and not under my direct supervision....... So in answer many of us HAVE seen first hand a TRUE anaphylactic reaction.

I was completely awed by the show of support for not only "Quigs" but for his family. I'm sure that they were comforted in the fact that he was respected, admired, loved by all and what a fitting tribute that so many came to pay their final respects to such a great man......later that afternoon I'm sure that the reason he left us was so that he would protect those on the US Airways plane that landed in the Hudson River. Our guardian angel was at watch as usual........ Till we meet again Quigs........

No matter what company you choose to work at it will depend upon you to make the most out of your time there. Transports are done everywhere and like others have said make the most of them and learn. Just because you have a transport out of a nursing home doesn't mean they aren't sick and Yes many times by the time the call comes in they are in some serious trouble. If you keep your eyes and ears open you will learn alot about pharmacology, especially polypharmcy, about diseases not just medical but psycological as well, your assessements need to be on the mark as well as your VS. You will learn alot about compassion and human nature and the smile you will recieve from that patient can melt even the most coldest heart. I have listened to my geriatric patients and the stories they tell will blow your mind. 911 jobs are also a learning experience but you have to move a little faster and make quick sound judgements and be able to interact and share the sandbox with other members of EMS. Remember you are part of a team and the team only works as well as the sum of the parts....... My best advice is to ask your partner questions, ask your Medic questions, ask your patient questions, ask the MD/RN questions. Go over calls to see what you can do better next time, EMS is a continual learning experience, take advantage of CME lectures..... Good luck on your new journey.

"NWFDMedic Welcome Rombout to the Mobile Life family. We've developed a good relationship helping out when we can over the past couple of years and I am certain we can continue to do even better. I'm working Fishkill tonight, so maybe I can get that first Rombout call. " And Alamo will be there till the clock strikes and we will continue to be there should Mobile Life need help since they now are covering Rombout, East Fishkill, and the Village of Wappingers........... As for BVAC and the ALS unit guess what Alamo is still there which means Alamo will be responding to the following: City of Beacon Glenham coverage is from Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corp. (BVAC) Dutchess Junction coverage is from BVAC Chelsea coverage is BVAC? (Fishkill area) To all the Fire Districts and EMS services out there be safe and may we all have a Happy and Healthy 2009.

Enough Lunchbox!!!!! This post needs to stay open and comments like that are beyond harsh and hateful.... Keep your opinions either to yourself or state them in another forum and not here! Although we all work for different agencies and departments we are all here for 1 purpose so let's concentrate on that and with the immeninet weather conditions we all need to work together to get thru this without injury or harm to all.

Alamo is not on the rack for sale......Healthquest with their CFO, CEO and VP met tonight to brief the Alamo staff on the whirlwind events of the last 24 hrs.......as was said tonight the ghost of Christmas past, present and future made a visit and their words of wisdom were heard.....LOL The goal is to make Alamo better and stronger than before....business as usual is out the door WE all will strive to serve our communities and our contracts with all we have and WE WILL hold our head high and provide compassionate, caring professional care to those who are in need....... We are looking to the future and to 2009 with renewed enthusiasim, a lighter step and a smile in our heart and face. To all who have given Alamo staff best wishes we thank you and may you all have a Happy, Healthy and Safe Holiday Season.

Ok here is the deal..........NDP is officially out of Beekman.....Alamo presently is covering that area....meetings are set up between to agencies for Monday and Beekman. NDP Does not have a CON nor does Pawling for NDP....so Alamo is presently covering that area.... New into the mix will be Union Vale........... It appears that NDP's thread is being to unravel with some serious consequences with not only town/municipality issues but now Federal issues regarding Medicare.. Thank Goodness HealthQuest did the gut check they said would be done prior to finalizing the merger.......
-
Not sure yet about Pawling but there are definitely done in Beekman........I should be hearing from my source soon.........Mr. French sent out a scathing email to residents of Beekman earlier today and yes I know that to be true because my husband forwarded it to me and he has nothing to do with EMS!!!!!!! Here is just a bit of what was sent: Hello everyone: I need to bring an urgent matter to your attention. The ambulance provider for our Town—Northern Dutchess Paramedics—has lost their state certification necessary to legally provide ambulance service in Beekman. Similarly, the Town has lost their "Certificate of Need" that previously covered NDP, and allowed them to provide service in Beekman. Therefore, NDP no longer has the ability to directly provide ambulance service to our Town, though they have a contractual obligation to do so. Approximately three weeks ago, NDP replaced their ambulances with Alamo ambulances (who indeed have the certificates and authorizations to provide service in all of Dutchess County). The Town was told a merger between NDP and Alamo was imminent, but today that fell apart completely. A merger would have solved these problems, as Alamo's certificates would have covered Beekman, and we would have been provided service legally through that certificate.

From reliable sources....Beekman had an emergency Town Board meeting scheduled today at 2pm.....NDP IS OUT !!!! Apparently not only Pawling and Beekman have problems but now possibly Union Vale..... Could this be the beginning of the end of NDP??????

Nitroglcerin is in a group as classified as a Nitrates, it dilates (widens) blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow through them and easier for the heart to pump. Patients are instructed to not use nitroglycerin if you are taking sildenafil (Viagra). I have used Nitro in the field and I prefer to use the spray to treat chest pain but I caution everyone to take a BP prior to administration. During my Medic ride time i had a situation where although the patient had a BP that do not contradict the use, after my first administration I reassessed her and her BP dropped from 140/80 to palp at 90!!! She appeared to be a Nitro virgin. Luckily I had a line already established at the time and my Medic preceptor right next to me...... As others have stated it is also used to treat acute onset of CHF and topical application works better for a more sustained dosage. Good luck with the paper.

The official memo came out a few minutes ago from HealthQuest to Alamo Management who has emailed and text messaged all Alamo employees of this development. The merger is off bewteen Alamo/NDP. We will remain 2 seperate companies.

Medic 442, Glad to hear that your back to your old self again and will be returning to the road. I hope your right....although only time will tell.............I am just putting in my 2 cents from what I personally hear and what I have seen...don't kill the messenger! Just because I haven't been in EMS and a Medic as long as you doesn't necessarily mean I don't know what I'm talking about. Best wishes for a safe an Happy Holiday Oppie

Medic442 "I can also say that the company in this bashing is changing and getting better." I will also be glad to get back to work by the end of this month (I hope). Okay I m done, just my 2 cents. Really ya think so Medic 442???????????????? Cause this is happening in the last month with this particular agency.......what is that phrase "a leopard can't change his spots." The company may have changed it's name but it still appears to be doing the same thing it did as before.... Hey but that is just my 2 cents what do I know.....apparently not much

I heard county dispatching the ALS unit to Greenhaven. I think county said ALS assist to Greenhaven for a possible heart attack Hudson Valley Paramedics will be sending a BLS unit.......In the last 3 weeks this has been happening more and more frequently. Why accept the contract when you can't commit the resources and then have to rely on other agencies to cover your a** on ALS calls when they have their own fire districts to cover, I can understand an ALS assist every once i awhile but this is getting ridiculous now, I hope people in the right places are hearing this and think twice about giving them any more contracts in Dutchess County.... I said it before they should not be going by the name Hudson Valley Paramedics but maybe something more truthful like Hudson Valley EMS.

Alamo calls out as Alamo Medic XX Alamo Ambulance XX Alamo Fly Car XX The only units that go by anything else would be when they call out as Beekman 34-79, or Pawling 54-79. And yes they are now back in Beekman and Pawling at this time.

Today I went with my family to go pick out our Christmas tree. Barb, Joe and Patrick are all doing well and are in the Holiday spirit despite their loss........the house is leveled and the dumpsters should be gone in a few days and then the task of rebuiling starts..........they want to thank everyone in their community for the outpouring of love and concern and help that they have received. Jack I gave them your regards and they had a big smile when I mentioned you..........
