I couldn't disagree more. I know of more than a few guys who have ZERO business being in the "fire service" yet they are still considered "volly firemen" and they parade around on scenes dressed in half turnout gear doing absolutely nothing but getting in the way. In the professional world this is not tolerated.
Now before you freak out i will say there are MANY great volly firemen in this county and i RESPECT that greatly. Not to get way off topic here but ever think the vol fire service should be a little more selective when letting people "join" aside from just being a resident of that particular area and having a clean background?

I will reiterate, yes he is more important than them, because while they, and you, and I, were home here enjoying freedom, he was overseas fighting for it. I worked my balls off to get my job, but I never begrudged a single person who went before me because they sacrificed their time and safety to fight for mine, and as I go forward I will applaud those who jump over me on promotion lists because of their veterans points. They DESERVE it, in fact they deserve more than this country currently gives them. The veterans points is a mere drop in a bucket for what they actually deserve. I'm over myself, I appreciate the value of others service above myself, whereas apparently you lack the ability to understand that you might not be the most deserving of something, guess you got jumped by a few vets at some point. Maybe you should have studied harder, been smarter, or served in the military and you wouldn't be so bitter.

The volley's can not and do not drive the apparatus in the COP so essentially with those 1 or 2 career men on ems runs the city is down two rigs. 110 vollies can show up but with no rigs what good are they?

There should be! This guy was the perfect candidate for any department, and Sleepy Hollow should have been honored he chose them. In fact, he passed through the entire SHPD hiring process....yet two members of the board declined to actually complete the process, and are the same ones at odds with his sister, a Village Board member they are at odds with.
This isn't just "BS small town politics as usual", this is an ongoing pattern of corruption in Sleepy Hollow politics that rears it's head regularly.

Is it really a duplication or smoke & mirrors? Thursdays Trench rescue in Rye had 2 WCPD SOD responders with no equipment freelancing while NRFD & WPFD had about 20 and the county TRT another doz or so.

Like many other volunteer fire around the region, state and nation, they are gone.
The volunteers in many combo depts. have no say because they refused to meet the most minimum of standards as set by law. I know of at least 5 depts. where the volunteers refused to have medicals and refused to meet the OSHA minimum training standards. So the depts. changed their status from volunteer to civilian.

Plus EMTs are a dime a dozen...you can hire some pimply faced high school kid with a buff belt for like $9.00 an hour part time so that you don't have to pay for benefits. These losers will line up for the job tenting in their EMS pants at the $9.00 rate!

As an "Upstate guy" my commute was shorter and closer to the City than any of the 45 FDNY Lt's in my class (total 60, with 15 "up staters"). Most drove 45 min to an hour each way from as far as Orange County. I'd roll out of bed and be at the rock in under 15.
