After seeing the photo of Baltimore's new Seagrave Ladder Truck. It appears to me that most big city fire departments do not purchase there aerial trucks pre-piped. A good example of this is Yonkers. They purchased two beautiful Smeal rearmount aerials without the ladder being pre-piped (L72 & L73). Which I find to be kind of odd. Are the aerials in Westchester departments pre-piped or is this just away for a department to save a couple of bucks on there purchase of a truck. Let me get some feed back please. About a month ago I saw them filming a scene at a Diner on Saw Mill River Rd in Elmsford.

FYI - Disney, along with the other theme parks (Universal Studios, Seaworld) are in Orlando, which is approx. 3 1/2 hours north of Ft. Lauderdale. It is a straight run on the FLA Turnpike. In Ft. Lauderdale there is route A1A, which runs along the water. At Las Olas Blvd and A1A is the nite life. If you drive inland on Las Olas Blvd you will run into a mall and some trendy restaurants. Enjoy.............. I have never seen bigger ambulances that what they have in Florida.

Just my opinion, but I think we should conduct a poll to see have many people are actually interested in the LA FD link.

On Saturday, June 4, 2005, at 1900 hours, the David B. Roche Vol. Fire Co. is having a "real wet down". To clebrate the delivery of there new KME Pumper, 26-1500. There will be food, drink, a live band, and alot of water. This is taking place at the Thiells FD sub-station located on Hammond Road, in Thiells. Adjacent to North Rockland High School. I was in Eastchester today, and observed the FD respond to a typical call. I noticed that each apparatus had two FF. Anyone have knowledge of the Eastchester FD. Are they fully paid or combo, how many firehouses, manpower, and an apparatus run down. Thanks.

Does anybody know where I can locate a copy of this months Fire Apparatus Journal. I tried Barnes & Nobles, Borders Books and Collectors Station and have had no success.

Just curious to know why Mount Vernon does not call YFD in for mutual aid. I am sure it is solely based on political issues. Can anyone elaborate.

Truck6018, you are correct. I forgot about the Metz that Spring Valley purchased. I was told they spent a hell of alot of money on that truck and it is not really a useful truck.

Nice truck. But I cannot understand why a department would by an aerial truck and not have it pre-piped for ladder pipe operations. Ex. Yonkers FD Smeal Ladder 72 and 73. Spend all that money on a truck and not have it pre-piped is like going back in the dark ages. Does not make any sense to me.

Feq. 46.18 Writer, Steve Numerous phone calls for a structure fire in a 3 story frame multi dwelling. Heavy fire condition upon arrival. All units withdrawn from interior. One Tower Ladder and one ladder pipe in operation.

Speaking as a FF from Rockland. I thing that we have a great system and something that Westchester should consider. There are 26 departments in Rockland (alot smaller then Westchester). The dept's are placed in alphabetical order and numbered. Each chief is dept # 1, 2 or 3. ex. 17-1 for spring valley chief of dept. Then a pumper is numbered by it's GPM. So if spring valley has a 2000 GPM pumper that unit would be 17-2000, if they had two 2000 GPM pumpers the second one would be 17-2001. Truck company are 17-Tower or 17-Quint or 17-99 for a 100 foot ladder. rescue would be 17-Rescue and so on.

What is this move supposed to be about? I also saw them filming in Elmsford on Thurs.

I just checked the Federal Signal Website. They list the QB2 for $1,960. It is an expensive item. Multiple that by a couple of hundred and it does add up to a considerable amount.

I recall a few years back an indepedent contractor did a study on the YFD. One of the recommendations that they made was that 10 Engine should be relocated further north on the Saw Mill River Rd area. Appearantly they believe that the north/west end of the city was lacking protection. I was surprised to hear of the Ridge Hill Bunker as a site. There is pretty far north and there is not much up there beside the home depot/costco and Stu Leonards
