In FDNY only some rigs have a compartment for the board.. Most have them laying in the hosebed, on top of the ladder or on top with the deckgun.

In order for it to be a HIPPA violation they would have to be a medical provider who used some form of electronic submission system They don't provide any form of medical care, so they don't fall under HIPPA in way. Now as far as media related issues thats another thing. They have to follow the same rules that any news paper of tv stations does.

Now I have been out of EMS for a bit so anyone who is current please correct me. There are no meal or bathroom breaks in EMS. Units can take a 10-100 during the tour they just cant abuse it. Unlike almost every other EMS service in the country FDNY EMS units get the honor of having to sit in the ambulance on a street corner for 8-16 hours a day. It's like being in a prison without the benefits of a library, and a weight room. It's nice to see FDNY cares about the EMS workers' health and welfare. Studies show that sitting in a running ambulance for long periods of time is directly linked to back problems, and GI disorders. It was the same way in HHC they tried changing somethings and a lot of people complained. I worked with many guys who like this, don't know why but they didn't want to sit in stations.. We have ambulances and command cars that are mobile death traps. They are supposed to replace the ambulances every 5 years but the truth is most of the fleet is older than that. FDNY does keep on top of things. I will say that there were many death traps around back in 99 when I was working EMS. One of the other problems was the screw up with the 2000 contract for 400 new ambulances. Take a look around most of the units have good upto date rigs. People in NYC are concerned with some of the diesel MTA buses driving down their street leaving a trail of soot and smoke. What they should take a look at are the 300 diesel EMS trucks that are parked on street corners all over the city with the engines running. Because we don't have a station to go to we have to sit on busy street corners across the city spewing diesel fumes into the air 24 hours a day seven days a week. If EMS trucks were stationed at the fire houses the savings on fuel costs alone would be Approx. $7,500 dollars per day or over 3 million dollars per year. BTW medical studies link diesel fumes with high rates of cancer and respiratory ailments. Is FDNY looking into any of this? No Here is one that I agree with... So what my point is, take everything with a grain of salt. If you are interested in working for FDNY EMS talk to a few people and get there take.

FDNY is allways looking for medics.

Just an FYI for anyone who doesn't deal with larger trucks and Fire Trucks/Engines. They work more like Stick Shift cars in that you place them in neutral and apply the "Maxi Break" when you park. If you foget to hit the maxi break then it's easy for it to start to roll. My Engine rolled in quaters and took out part of the front door and we also had another Engine in the Battalion roll into the house watch. Both cases the rigs were checked it most likely the problem was failure of the driver to turn on the Maxi break.

Station 55 if I remember is in the Old Fire Battalion 55's area from the war years.

EMS-Buff. What radio are you using? You have a setting wrong thats why It won't stop on it.
-
Cpage. The motorola system don't have an order to put them into the radio. Which radio do you have? The only thing is on the radio shack radios you need to make sure the mode is motorola On Uniden you have to program the freqs in the trunk mode so the scanner knows it's for trunking.

EMS-Buff change what you have to.. 470.000 - 380 - 12.5 469.525 - 380 - 12.5 475.750 - 500 - 12.5 Give this a try we will have everything a 100% tomorrow. Myself and steveOFD have been working hard on getting it all correct. So far we know that setting your radio to 470.000 - 380 - 12.5 will work for the north zone no problem 475.750 - 500 - 12.5 is working for the south zone and still confirming the 469.525 - 380 - 12.5
-
I have been unable to track the new system with the listed base/offset. I changed somethings around and now can monitor the south zone. 469.525 - 380 - 12.5 475.750 - 500 - 12.5

I would love to see the County come up with a Central Medical Control. In the city when things like this happen you get on the phone with the Doc. Sometimes they tell you to transport and sometimes they let the RMA go. I have signed the patients over to the PD and school principles in the past under direction from medical control. As far as taking a patient to the hospital, who is in PD custody. Most times it's not a problem they will just ride into the ER. Sometimes they did take the pt back the station house to process the pt before calling, so that they could turn the patient over to corrections at the ER.

It's called CIDS Critical Dispatch Information System. 130 Liberty Street - Major Alteration - 38sty 210x320 - unoccupied - holes in floors and exterio walls floors 1 - 30 - Sprikler is out of service and Standpipe is dry - Enter through Loading dock on washington st - there is asbestos and hazardous material on all floors. You can't put a lot of info in the CIDS it's limited to about what the above reads. As far as the memo, it was never issused to anyone. Had the memo become a pre-plan then it would have gone into a preplan book and been placed on BC, DC and most likely a few of the first due units.

Funny thing is that I was able to see the end of the mayors press conf. He ended with saying that we should go finger pointing, seems a little late for that.
-
LTR, PASSPORT, EDACS, ETC are all types of trunking.. The LS series radios wonºt do this system, this is why the county went with the MTS MCS series radios.
-
Aux FFºs are realy not around anymore, however you will find it on paper in places. They do however have an explorer program now.

Here is a list of Trucks and what not. http://www.n2nov.net/NYPD_ESU_Truck_Supv_Numbers.html When you here "Truck #" That is the big rescue truck. Adam, Boy, Charlie, David are the smaller units. They will go over as Adam # Most of the other special units will also use the trucks #. Such as Malt 4.

Well people keep asking what happened to them. I guess they are pretty much out of service. Too bad being they had a chance to make a comeback after getting the donations

OEM is pretty much the modern day Civil Defense. Most OEM's started as CD and with time have changed to the new name. Yonkers CD is in the process of droping CD for OEM. They already use OEM but it's not 100% offical yet. As far as CERT goes. With CD back in the day you many groups. Rescue, Aux PD, AUX FD, Etc. CERT is kinda taking the place of the CD Rescue Squads. In Yonkers you had the CD Rescue Services which changed over time to the Searchlight and Rescue and then to CD Emergency Support Services. One big thing is funding when CD died out after the Cold War so did the money. Most CD's died out and stayed as only a very small group. With 9/11 they have started to grow again and now FEMA has money towards CERT. So the money from FEMA is being used to build up CERT like the CD Rescue units once were. Hope this helps some.

Peirce wanted nothing to do with the contracts for FDNY Pumpers. Not sure about the trucks. Last thing they bid on was the Rescues.
-
We also have a spare which will be long term..
-
Most are used to store Water Rescue gear.

Just an FYI on the FOAM rigs. The city no longer has the hi-ex unit. There is one Foam tender which has 3000gal of foam, this was a purchased unit.. The other units are "Foam units" which carry 1000gal? of foam and are coverted rig.

It's funny that you ask this question. I was reading an article in WNYF about this very subject. Here is a link that talks about it a little bit. http://www.pugetsoundfools.com/The%20Halli...0Bar%201-06.doc I found an old claw tool at the firehouse sometime back, I will have to take some photos of it. It pretty much came down to hitting the tool. With the claw tool it was easy to miss and strike the member holding it. With the Halligan you ended up with 3 spots to hit the tool and drive each one of the ends.

Had one some years back. Can't remember what the call came in as but the lady was sitting on the bed saying she didn't feel to good. She told me about the Defib and shortly after went into Cardiac Arrest, as I went to check a pulse the defib shocked both of us. She then began to talk again like nothing happened, it was kinda of strange. The shock wasn't bad at all pretty much just makes you jump and say what the? I would have to agree with the bad outlet/light switch feeling.
