  1. Other note is on the side back door it has a logo that says "Westchester special operations task force" "Squad 2"

  3. Don't forget the other issue with the New Haven line. The trains use overhead wires and 3rd Rail. So they will cost more money just to run on the New Haven lines. Also as far as Rescue and Fire ops on the trains go. I wish they did post updated info. I was on a NYC Train the other day trying to get a door open and the conductor came over with the key and said it would only open with a key. The trains that are used in training don't require any key to open the doors. It's nice that we keep the resuce workers up to date.
  4. Thats pretty neat, when you look at the entire photo and not the normal stuff.
  5. If you ask me I say no-lights. However NYC has units respond with lights and sirens to the relocations. If you hit and kill someone what have you done? I was in a rush to go and sit in a firehouse just incase. Then on the other hand what if there as a fire with people trapped and had you relocated to the area with lights and sirens you could have been in a postion to do something?
  6. The Battery won't get damaged but it will discharge. This happens with alot of rechargable batteries, lose power when cold. Will get some juice back when they warm up. But what you would need to do it warm them up first and then charge them

  10. The new 82-B1 a nice looking 2004 PL Custom, Ford E350 with LED package has arrived. Looks great, pending radios and some minor stuff, not sure when it will hit the road.
  11. With Regret, the department announced the passing of Dr. John E. Sheridan, On-Line Control Physician, of the Office of Medical Affairs on November 29, 2004. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Patrick's Church, 137 Moseman Avenue, Yorktown Heights NY On Wednesday December 1, 2004 at 1000 hours. Dress uniform shall be worn. Members who are off duty are requested to attend. _____________________ I never had the chance to meet Dr. Sheridan, but did have the honor of talking with him on all those RMA's and stuff. Anyone you can attend I am sure it would be welcomed
  12. One pretty neat toy in it. The put a LCD TV in the drop down visor on the drivers side for backing up. Small camera mounted on the rear. 82-B2 also has the camera but with a normal CRT tv mounted, the little LCD thing you can't even see it's there.
  13. Here is the way things line up. Digital Rebel (Best DSLR of 2003) Good for you money $900 Nikon D70 (Best DSLR of 2004) Better then the rebel $1300 Canon D20, this is not a Rebel. It's better made also $1600 There is nothing wrong with the rebel. You however do need to learn how to use it. There are other lenses out that are better in lowlight but thats with any camera. Remember the #1 thing the Rebel was built to be a under $1000 camera, if thats what you are looking for then get the rebel.
  14. This is a FDNY thing. One line going to the fire in use. The second one could almost be at any location. Front door standing by, Exposure, Fire Floor, Floor above, Etc. Could be charged or not.
  15. FDNY EMS has just placed in service two FDNY USAR Medic units. These are not new Ambulance units just two units who have been trained. The units are 12Z 35Z The units are full ALS Haztac units and trained in USAR. They don't carry and rescue equipment just the hazmat stuff. When a rescue job comes in that could use a USAR medic the unit will be dispatched and assigned to the Rescue Battalion. Just like how the Medics are assigned to the Hazmat battalion at Hazmat jobs. There are no SOP's on paper yet. However the training has been complete and FDNY wanted to place the units in service.
  16. See this is also where I run into some fustration with Depts. For example one Dept has a pac/Rat on thier FG channel. This is not the best thing being all it does is bring all the congestion of 46.260 onto your fireground. Something that the UHF was suppose to help slove and ontop of if they have a different PL tone on theOfficer radio for the Pac/Rat so Mutal Aide wouldn't be able to hear the IC. And if you get Depts that don't follow the Chart now Mutal Aide shows up and it adds to the confusion of what channel you need to be on. If the Chart thing and all is hard to follow and confusing maybe it should be changed to a system that 60 assigns channels on the Fly on announces the FG everytime they tone out like some places do. This way Mutal Aide and everyone knows what channel they should be on.
  17. MGMedic. Welcome to the board... I would hope to see this program expand. One quick questions is, are the newly trained Medics being made part or the FEMA Team.. I remember not too long ago looking at the list of names and there was only two medics. Everyone else was LT or above.
  18. technical name is "Series" the other wiring style would be parallel" A link that talks about this stuff http://www.termpro.com/articles/spkrz.html
  19. Just my confusing is that the Preplan channel for BMFD is FG2. So I guess my question is, If you have a fire right now and you are using the FG's what channel would you be using?
  20. OK I am confused now.. Looking at the list BMFD should be on Fireground #2.. Don't know how they ended up on FG8. PDT_Armataz_19 What is the "UHF EMS frequency" ???
  21. When you say "2 or 3 speakers to a scanner so there is good sound coming out of them" How are you locating these speakers?? In other rooms around a house/station with one main scanner? Setup that I have used for getting the audio to more then one speaker is as follows. Base radio audio out going into a small radio shack amp. From the Amp it has two out puts. One side to my main speaker to control the volume and the other goes to all the other speakers. I used the in house phone wires to get the audio around.
  22. OK, Trying to get some input from the people who deal with fires when there are no Hydrants near by. Was at a 2nd Alarm in the Bronx the other day. The fire was in a wooded area north of Orchard Beach, access was from the parking lot of Orchard Beach. First Engine and Truck drove up the access road aprox 1/2 mile from the parking lot. The Engine then drove another 1000 or so feet down a dirt road to the fire, Truck remained on a paved path. Engine dumbed 500 gallons of water then the members used hand tools to control what they could. At the same time. 3 more Engines laid all the 3 1/2 hose they had from the gate of the parking lot to the start of the access road. This was aprox 30+ lenghts, with one Engine at the Hydrant, one half way and then the 2000gpm from Satelite at the end. The Satelite unit then droped 2500' of LDH from the parking lot up the access road to the area of the Ladder company. The first Engine then had laid all the 3 1/2 hose they had back toward the Ladder company. This left aprox 500' of distance between the end of the 3 1/2 and the Satelite. By this time most of the fire was out. To finish the relay parks Dept used a pickup and loaded it up with all the 3 1/2 they could fit. In all it took aprox 40 mins to setup the first half of the realy and another 20mins for the 2nd half. Which still never made it to the fire. The fire was placed under control before water ever made it to the fire area. So what could be done in the future to make this better? Water Pools? Some form of watter shuttle? Floating water pumps? (Fire was near the water, but to low for the boats). Just remember max amount of water is 500gal to a pumper and there are no Water Tankers
  23. Lets hope that they looked at this as part of the New Radio system. As far as the HEAR radio when I can use it I do. But you are correct most people are using cell phones. How about the FDNY way. Only call in unstable patients, everything else you just show up. But being real this is an area that could use a good looking at by the Remsco and/or the county.
  24. Air drop.... Just kidding Well truth is that they did call for Air Drops early in the fire. They requested two NYPD Aviation units, one for Air Recon and one for the drops. mfc2257 seems to have the right idea. It looked as if most of the manpower was being used seting up the water relay. Maybe just some good hard manpower with hand tools.. The Brush Fire unit did show up but only after the fire as under control. You also mention manpower not apparatus. The use of some for of transport unit to bring manpower and equipment from the staging area to the fire would have been great.
  25. Did you have access from land to water with a utility vehicle? There was no good access that I saw for a vehicle to get near the water at the fire area.
