Anyone out there with a Digital SCaner?? Sounds like Digital stuff.. DFFD227 can you compare the sound to that of something like YPD.
-
There is a bunch of FDNY people on here.. If you got questions we got answers
-
Watch where you are standing..... As you can see this Firefighter did observe the correct side to stand on..
-
Funny thing is that FDNY doesn't allow the use of service elevators during Fires. I am sure in a case like this they would have to look at the books again.
-
Something else I also noticed.. The curb in the ambulance bay isn't cut. It would be nice if the entire thing was cut so you could wheel over the curb, when you don't back into a spot. I try to park away from the main ED doors when I have a minor injury. So that it leaves room in case a Trauma comes in.. But then when I wheel over there is no cut curbs.

All the repeaters or just 453.000? Which seemed to go dead yesterday.

Not sure about pelham.. but New Rochelle tones on 33.96 ops on 46.06.

Seth, Brought up a good point.. 2nd Units going to the ER wether it's a Engine company, 2nd ambulance or flycar. Sould not respond with lights and sierns to the ER. NYC came out with a rule a few years ago. "No patient = no lights and sirens" Still see people doing this. As well there was a fatal MVA that was involved with a 2nd ambulance following the ambulance with the patient to the ER.

With the laws and lawsuits today and the danger that we face. NYS EMS states all depts need to have this issue as a SOP on how they should handle this. I know FDNY EMS rules are patients that are C,U and some P's can go lights and sirens all Stable patients go with no lights or sirens. Also don't leave your lights on and drive around when not in emergency mode.

This is a topic that does bother me. I see this over and over people going to lights and sirens to the ER and then walking a PT into the ER with something very minor. This should be something that the crew thinks about. I very rarely go lights and sirens to the ER. I also watch the speed and keep it nice and slow either way. I see people put the lights and sirens on and drive a little too fast. Remember if the person is in bad shape the crew needs to do some work in the back and can only do this if you drive safely. Also last thing. For those minor calls that are for the most part a transport with little or no care need on the way to the ER. "Please Put your seat belt on in the back"

All the photos were with the 28-300 Tamron lens. Very happy with the new lens. Great addition.

Ok here is a little about "Circular Polarizer" filters. Sample 1 Note the front windshield vs the side window Front has glare and not the side. Sample 2 Note the front windshield vs the side window Front now has not glare and side does. Sometimes I find the glare on windows to be over powering and will show you things in the reflection you don't want to see. Such as a building the rig is parked near. With the filter you can dial out some of these reflections by turning the filter. ---------------------------------- From "http://www.mat.uc.pt/~rps/photos/faq.polarizers.htm" Q: What can I use a polarizing filter for? A: The manufacturers will have us believe that you can block out any unwanted reflection in glass, water etc. You can *not* block out the reflections in metallic surfaces, since they do not polarize the light. But, although the manufacturers are right for the greater part, you will have to use the polarizer in the right way to get the above effect. This means, you will have to take your picture in a direction perpendicular to the sun (i.e. the line sun-reflecting surface has to be perpendicular to the line camera-surface), as is illustrated below: O sun o you / / / --------- reflecting surface You will be able to block out the unwanted reflections this way, dependent on the direction of the filter. When you're standing perpendicular to the sun, the effect will be maximum, slowly decreasing as you move in line with the reflecting surface and the sun. Then the effect will become zero. You can also use a polarizer to control the colour of the sky, ranging from light blue to dark blue/grey. Since the sky is scattered light and hence polarized, you can deepen the blue by removing light scattered by dust and molecules of, for example, water and hydrogen in the atmosphere(haze). In this way, you are able to let the clouds almost disappear or make them better visible. This also works best when you are standing on a line perpendicular to the line sun-earth. Also can be used for. As a 1- to 2-stop neutral density filter—e.g., to get a longer exposure speed in aperture-priority mode

Ok I think there is some confusion on the Badge issue here. NYC-EMS use to issue bages to all members. The badges were pretty much exactly the same as NYPD. (Not the best idea) Sure some people loved that idea, but not for the right reasons. NYC-EMS also wore the badges on the work duty uniform in the same manor as nypd. After EMS changed to FDNY the badges were all revoked and no longer considered official and that they were now just history type item. Badges were no longer issued pending a new style and system. Many new members went and had fake badges made in the old style. However FDNY doesn't wear badges on any of the uniforms. All FDNY ranks except EMS have allways been issued a badge along with an ID card. EMS has requested that badgs be reissued and now the Department has made a new style badge not looking like NYPD and has begun to issue them. These new bages are something that is to be carried with the ID card. Sanitation and every other uniformed city agency have badges EMS simply wanted to keep the tradition going. As far as all this legal stuff. the new badges should make no issue. The old NYPD style that people have could be. Along with the non FDNY people who have had thier uniforms made to match things like ESU. To the point I had a hard time telling it was a EMS person.

They didn't get the ok yet for single medic ambulances. They did get the ok for single medic response units. Ie. EMS supervisor unit, Cushman, Engines, Etc. Also part of the single medic ambulance issue is that FDNY maintains dual medic ambulances. This way junior medics will still have to ride with a senior medic. They would also only be able to put a senior medic on a unit as a signle medic.

There is also the light trailers that are a nice option. Yonkers Civil Defense, ESS unit runs one. 4000watt's and will run 60hours on a full tank. You can also hook up reels and stuff to it. They just came out with a line for Emergency services http://www.allmand.com/PRODUCT10-1_fr.htm

The Stang on the front is kinda of a kickback to the old days.. Before the prepiped they use to have a mount ontop of the rig where the piped stang is today that you could hook up a line to or remove it and use it as a portable. So I guess due to the space issue they pulled out a mount and placed on the cab. Most engines just place the portable stang in a compartment.

Last I heard it was going to be one for Each Boro except SI. Rescue 3 keeps the one they have. Rescue 1/Ladder 25 gets a new one Rescue 2 gets a new one. Rescue 4 gets a new one. If you look at the site, it shows three rigs being built.

Install the Gallery photo system. I have it on my site. nycfire.net/gallery Works great and it quick so that you can update it alot.

To make you think.. Vacant building. Duration 30mins. Heavy fire still showing. Maybe it's time to change the plan.

They respond on EMS Segments 1-3. There are a few exceptions. There are also some locations with CFR holds. As well if NYPD puts the job in for chest pain, but then EMS talks to the person and finds they are under 35yo then it's downgraded and no CFR. On Cardiac Arrest and Choking they always have to respond. Also they can be special called for lifts and Forceable Entry

You will see lot's of new things comming soon as far as ropes and bailouts. Some new things I have seen so far. Use of 1" webbing for bailout. All FDNY member should have this by now. 20' in a loop. It was giving out to assist in UNC FF removal. Use of SCBA as anchor point. Didn't see how it was done, but some tests done at the ROCK they had 4 people hanging from a rope tide to a SCBA. You may not see a harness come back, they having been testing ways to bailout without a harness. There is a lot going on so I am sure you will see more on this in the future.
