Gross Decon = Any Engine and Ladder setup in the side by side configuration with the ladder above. Mass Decon = The tents and stuff like that being setup.
-
Ok lets break down all this Hazmat Decon stuff a little. CPC units can be anything CPC stands for Chemical Protective Clothing. These are members who are trained in donning suits and entering the hotzone to remove patients. This is a simple 8 hour course. Every FDNY unit is able to perform gross decon. All Engines have fog nozzles that they can setup on the side of the engine to have a water curtain. The tower ladders also can equip the bucket with a fog nozzle to setup a downward shower. This is the 2 Engines facing each other concept these units do not have to have any hazmat training. You also have 25 SOC Ladders which are teamed with 25 Decon Engines and 25 Battalions chiefs and 25 Rapid response units. This is the Decon Task Forces. They have the tents and things like that. This is not Gross Decon, just Mass decon.

This is not ture, and thats why FDNY changed the rules. FDNY SOPs were to come to a complete stop at red lights. NYS law states So when a FDNY Engine hit and killed someone when they didn't stop at a red light they were in the wrong and couldn't argue the case. With the new rules FDNY could say that they slowed down but didn't see anyone. Gives them more play in court. Now that FDNY changed the rules to match that of NYS VTL that states you can go past a red light, the unions are saying to come to a complete stop. It has to do with the fact that if you do go past a red light and hit someone they are going to hang you.

I hope you are not trying to say that these should be NYPD units. Kelly hasn't taking over collapse yet, still FDNY's game..

Ok so lets get the rumors going. Looking over some budget stuff. Came across the following info. New Fire Boat 130' expected 2007. From a DHS grant 20mil.
-
I know FDNY likes the new LA Fire Boat 2. From things I heard is that they are looking at that company. However I don't think we would see anything on that scale. Marine 9 was the largest Fire Boat with pumping power until LA Fire Boat 2 went into service. They pump 38,000, or the power of 38 FDNY Engines.

The Cab company is on the PL tone is even with a PL scanner you still hear them. Not sure if this Cab stuff is going over all of 46.26 system but it's on the 453.000 with the PL. There are no other repeaters you will hear in New Ro.

Nothing.. This is just a way they can track it.. So if you call up and say that they never got back to you, now there is away to keep track of it.

FDNY has now placed Marine unit #8 in service. Marine 8 is part of the Summer boat program, which uses the smaller boats for rapid response during the boating season. Units will be in service from 0700-2100 hrs. Marine 3 based at Gateway Marina will cover south shore of Queens and Brooklyn. (Queens Fire Freq) Marine 4 based at Fort Totten will cover north shore of Queens and South shore of the Bronx. (Bronx Fire Freq) Marine 8 based at Great Kills Harbor will cover Staten Island (Staten Island Freq)

As the mayor race heats up. FDNY is adding a new Engine company to SI. Engine 168 will go into service in the near future out of the Rossville station. Currently Rossville is running only an EMS Battalion.

There are 119 firehouses that are equipped with a women’s bathroom. There are 92 more that will need to be equipped with women’s bathrooms. On average, each will cost $85,000 for a total of $7.8 million. No timeline was given to the All I can say is that must be one nice bathroom when it's done...

When Water drops are called for. Air Recon Chief. Always goes in one of the new Augusta Helo's 2nd Helo one of the larger ships will have the bucket attached to do the drops. Also FDNY has SOPs to deal with Airlifts of patients. I know at least one if not both of the larger ships are NYS EMS medevac units. If you look at a photo you will see the star of life patch on the side.

FDNY SOP's does make alot of use of NYPD Aviation. Just recently they changed them around to be as follows. Battatlion Chief reports to NYPD Aviaition HQ to become the Air Recon Chief at: 2nd Alarm Hi-Rise D/W/H 3rd Alarm D/W/H 10-60 There is also another portion of the SOP's which calls for a Hi-Rise Roof Team and Chief. Ladder 2,7,21 and Ladder 6,10, 15 are trained to be dropped from a Helo onto the roof of a Hi-Rise Building. If you get a good Hi-Rise fire and they pull out all the stops the plans call for a use of 3 Helos. 1. Air Recon 2. Roof Chief (HRRC) 3. Roof Team (HRRT)

There was and is a lot of talk about something like that. I guess that time will tell.

As far as the boats. FDNY stated it had a grant to purcahse a new one. We will have to wait and see.

There are two units that are out there. They are CAR 5M1 and 5M2. They are FDNY EMS Medical Directors part of OMA "Office of Medical Affairs" They do the CME's, REMAC stuff and things like that. QA is also a big part of there work load. As far as field work one of the big things they deal with are school kids. Calls of a school bus MVA Doc will come in call make the call on who needs to goto the hospital and who doesn't. Saves bringing 40 kids to the local ER. Now as far as amputations. The bus I worked on had one but I was on my days off. They had the FDNY Doc respond and someone went to Bellevue to pick up a surgeon and bring him to the scene. However Rescue 1 was able to get the guy out by the time they were setup.

Seth, EMS in NYC is dispatched as follows. 911 call goes to NYPD Communications at 11 Metrotech. There a NYPD operator will screen the call and enter it into the computer. If it's a Medical call the 911 operator will place the call into a NYPD job type such as 53 or 54. The call then will be sent over to 1 Metrotech and FDNY EMS ARD will then screen the call using the cards and place the job into an EMS call type such as JUMPDN. Note as soon as the NYPD operator keys in a call type that CFR-D units respond a message is sent to Starfire. The FDNY EMS ARD then my downgrade this call and cancel the Engine. Such as Caller states Pt has chest Pn. Then EMS ARD finds out pt is 23 with no hx now it's downgraded to a Sick call. Future will be very interesting as far as Public safety goes. 1. Ambulances getting AVL already started working on this units have been installed. 2. FIRE CO's being renovated 3. FDNY Fire moves to UHF radio system 4. Police, Fire and EMS all move to a central CAD system 5. Possible FIRE, EMS and PD move to two 911 Centers. As far as staffing the goal is for one stop shopping. 911 operator will be able to handle any call without having to send it to Fire or EMS.

I installed two simple systems for this. One was just a pager wired into a Phone Systems PA function which was already installed in the firehouse. Second system was using a Motorola CDM radio setup as a base and programed to work like a Pager. When need the radio could be changed to a second channel and work like a base radio and has the ablitiy to also send tones. The radio was wired to a small AMP and then feed threw the building using the phone lines.
-
Would this be the Firehouse that we are talking about?
-
I am not sure if it was posted.. NYC EMD no longer informs callers to do rescue breathing.. EMD instructions are for chest compressions only. I know a lot of people have been looking at this Issue.

All that was taking into effect already. If you have your list number then you know what it is. Things that will effect you are People that were skipped over for Credits and CFR stuff. When they get the stuff together then they go back to the top of the list.
