The reabreather unit is not part of MSU. It's part of SOC and will be used for hazmat and other situations that require longer airtime of the SCBA. Looks like one of the old EMS Oxygen delivery trucks which never had any lights or sirens. I am sure they will add them to the unit.

Can't see it being an FCC thing, however NFPA might have something on it. FDNY EMS Dispatching works pretty much the same way. Most units have computers but everything is still started in voice no tones or anything. Dispatcher calls unit "02B for the assignment" unit will respond either "02B send it" if computer equipped or "02B read it" if not computer equipped. Dispatcher will then say "02B 34street and 10th Ave for the Trauma" if the unit has a computer and the rest goes to the MDT. For units with no computer they will read the entire job over the radio. You only will hear the tones if nobody answers the radio. On a side note. If you have any trouble with units that miss calls because they didn't hear the radio. You should look into some type of tone system, doesn't have to be like the FD's 2 tone style. I would say you might want to look into something like MDC from Motorola. This way when you call a unit if they don't answer you can page the radios and if set right the radio will go to full volume. Helps if the crew had turn down the radio volume. Also the MDC doesn't take seconds like the 2 tones on the FD.

Well lets look at this in the BIG picture. This is about Mutal Aide for something very LARGE SCALE. Down in N.O. this is pretty much what was going on. They put one FF from N.O. that was trained on how to drive and work the rig and then the crews were made up of FF's from FDNY and some from other Depts. This happens all the time. I have been sent from my firehouse across to the other end of the city to ride on a Truck because someone got hurt. I don't know one person in the Firehouse or know one street/building in the area. I do know that they have the same training as me and thats all I know. I have yet to see my great Dept's plans for any of this. We as always are the last ones to find anything out. Time will tell whats next.

The new systems is made up of a bunch of parts. 1. Updated Harness made by Gemtor. Works in two ways. First it works just like the old ones did, you release a snap and the harness hook comes into action. The second way it works is with another snap which keeps the harness hook out of the way but releases a D ring which is attached to the bailout rope. The normal hook you see on the harness is not used for bailout. 2. New Rope. Now made of kevlar, not sure who makes it. Also now 50' long. 3. Fish Hook. Now at the end of the rope is a fish hook looking device in place of a clip. This will allow you to anchor to the window sill as well as many other things. 4. Decent control device. Pre attached to rope and D-ring of Harness. When a load is applied it will lock and not descend. You then must use a little handle to control your descent. 5. Pouch that attaches to the harness to hold everything. As far as purchasing them. I think you might have a problem at this time. Maybe after FDNY gives them out to everyone you might see them made available by the company.

Engine = Pumper most are 1000gpm with 500gal of water. Truck = Tower Ladder or Rearmount Aerial Ladder = Tower Ladder or Rearmount Aerial There are so many more. I will try to work on a nice complete list, if you are very interested pickup a copy of the FDNY Operational reference. You can also go over the photo gallery on my site and see some of the rigs. You can get a list of Firehouses location here. http://www.nycfire.net/fdny

As far as Mutal Aide goes, Yes FDNY and NYPD will leave the city. This system will be for Chiefs and higher to work on a command level.

Word is that they have the contract back....

Starting to sound right. Notice the same thing last week I have had trouble hearing the dispatcher and I am in New Ro.
-
Was it on or off PL?? I didn't hear anything, however I did hear New Rochelle HQ ask 60-Control about it, which in turn stated they didn't hear anything. I have the PL Tone on, so if it was off PL I wouldn't hear anything.

The other side of the story is that they are short EMT's in a big way. 1st the EMT's leave all the time for other jobs. 2nd NYPD class takes a few EMT's each time Now this time they were taking a lot of EMT's to go into FIRE and St. Marys Hospital shutdown and now FDNY is taking it over. This has caused big staffing problems in EMS.

Don't think anyone has a clue on what might happen.. I know Ferrara would love to move in with as much as they can.. They are the only other rig in front line service with the High-Pressure Engines and now the Satelites.

Thanks for posting this.. Read about a product like this or it could have been this one, awhile back. Sounds like it has great product if it holds up..
-
These Seagraves keep falling apart and little things that should hold up are not.. As far as getting anything fixed it's a joke.. Anything thats under warranty doesn't get fixed. Only the stuff our guys do in house..

Anyone notice all the non FDNY stuff going on in the Fire Scene's. Funny that they are suppose to have a TD from FDNY working with them. I know at first it was a guy from Ladder 22 not sure now. Just drives me crazy when it's so easy to keep some things accurate and they don't

Not sure if you know anyone on a family level who had a major stroke. If you did I think you would think different. Recently someone in our family had a stroke and was taking to a city hospital (Not a stroke center). For what ever reason they never picked up on the stroke. When I found out of the incident first thing came to mind was a CVA. Patient moved to another hospital by orders of the family and then began treatment. However the window was lost and now the road to recovery is much longer. Also you can't be discouraged when you do have a CVA patient who doesn't have that miracle. Some CVA's will be a bleed and no clot buster will take care of that. All in All the best treatment for anyone who might have a stroke is to get them to a Hospital that can deal with this. Currently we have these new Stroke Centers and they are the best chance. Not all hospitals are the same..

RU 911 I know what you mean when you say " Those who wanted to take no one to the hospital" I always found this funny. I looked it things s little diffrent. NYC we in away are competing with the privates. They tell the city they will save them money. FDNY EMS has been working over the past few years to say we can make you money. With better education on documentaion and things the money has gone up. Me I will take you pretty much any place you want to go and I don't care what is wrong with you... Make sure I fill out the report and get you billed for the service. I also take the Trip counter on the dash and reset it. Give me an accurate count on miles. Anything over the mile is the next full mile. All this = $$ and more jobs.. If and when they can stop the abuse then EMS will end up like the FD's fighting to keep jobs and find new things to do, such as public education, giving flu shots, etc.

10-95 is used all the time.. The main place is school bus MVAs and school related incidents. Doc will respond and traige out the people who do not need to transport. Turn over the ACR and use the section on the back. Yes can be used during an MCI. It also could be used for day to day stuff..
-
FDNY Does have a SOP for things like this. Pretty much they call Medical Control and talk with the DOC. This is also the same SOP used when the DOC responds to the scene of a school bus MVA and they don't transport all the kids..

Give or take. Nothing is in stone..

Also an update: FDNY sent down a convoy on wednesday. The convoy of vehicles will be led by former Engine 283 (The Spirit of Louisiana ), which was donated to the FDNY from Louisiana in the aftermath of September 11th. Also, among the vehicles deployed are an FDNY Mobile Command Center, six battalion vehicles (suburbans) and one supply truck. These vehicles will be used to support the complement of more than 320 firefighters already deployed and working in New Orleans. There are also asking for another list of FDNY members who might want to go down and replace the current members working.
-
FDNY assests deployed: FEMA Team = 17 Members IMT = 3 Members Task Force = 300 Members (Were to leave at 3am today)

The entire issue has nothing to do we anything. Just bad habbits. All FDNY SOPs for emergency procedures with a MASK are done with the waist strap. Also don't recall if it was mentioned here but the sensor of the pass alarm is on the back of the mask along the waist line. Scott states that you will get more false alarms when not using the belt strap

"35 mm color film" What thats?? Kinda sounds like something I read about in a book on time.. Was it 1gig?

Ok have an update for you. https://www.swern.gov/ August 28, 2005 -- The Department of Homeland Security, through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is coordinating response efforts to provide necessary assistance to communities affected by Hurricane Katrina. The Homeland Security Operations Center (HSOC) serves as the nation’s nerve center for information sharing and domestic incident management. At the request of the HSOC – the National Emergency Resource Registry has been activated. The NERR– via the HSIN-CI Program – stands ready to assist the coordination efforts between the resources that are needed and the resources that may be available from the private and public sectors. If you or your organization / agency / corporation have resources that may be made available to the response agencies, please list them in this Resource Registry. The SouthWest Emergency Response Network (www.SWERN.gov) is the central repository for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. If you or your organization / agency / corporation have resources that may be made available to the response agencies, please list them in the Resource Registry.
