It is with great sadness that I share with you the details of the local memorial gathering for my friend and fellow ex-Captain of the Poningoe Hook and Ladder Co. (City of Rye), Richard F. Cadigan, Jr. Rich tragically lost his life on January 31, 2019, one day before his 62nd birthday. A native of Maryland, Rich joined the Rye FD after moving to the City with his wife. They would go on to raise their son in Rye and over his 17+ years in the Ladder Company Rich held offices including Secretary, Lieutenant, Captain and Warden. He will be remembered for his smile, his handshake and his dedication to his family and the fire service. Family and friends will gather in Richard’s memory on Saturday February 23rd from 12-2pm at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME 767 E. Boston Post Rd Mamaroneck, 914-698-5968. So, when an elected official makes an appointment we're just supposed to sit and accept it? Zero times Zero = Zero

None.

BREAKING NEWS Mayor Pavia just appointed Bobby Valentine as Director of Public Safety for the City of Stamford Edit: Ooops. Posted before Geppeto's post appeared.
-
Don't take this personally, but here is a more accurate picture of what would happen if the so-called "plan" was implemented: Of course there lies the SLIM possibility that when IF the mayor finally EVER tries to implement his new plan for "better" fire service, they will releaseTHROW OUT the test results. Because they will need to hire 51 additional firefighters to work for the new "volunteer" department FROM SOME OTHER NON-CIVIL SERVICE LIST.

Guys, think about it this way- we don't want a Certified List being established before there is any possibility of them hiring. For example: If they certify the list tomorrow, and aren't ready to hire until late 2012, then that means that many people will have to take the test again 2 years earlier than "necessary". I, for one, don't WANT them to certify the list until there is a damn good chance of anyone actually getting hired from said list.

Sincerest condolences to Capt. Kerr and all of Bruce's family and to the members of Local 2029, on behalf of Rye's volunteers... Bruce was a wealth of knowledge and I personally had the honor of learning from him both on scene and at the training center over the past several years. R.I.P.

To Sean's family, friends and brother and sister firefighters- Heart-felt condolences from myself and all of us at Stamford Emergency Communications. We were all shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely loss of one of our bravest. Rest easy...

Just postponing the test. I *believe* it has to do with the recently announced budget and staffing cuts in the City of Stamford. My understanding is that the Personnel Dept, the SFRD and the City in general have a lot to take care of before a May budget/tax rate deadline and therefore moving the test to June made more sense.
-
The postponing of SFRD's test will not effect the CPAT schedule. The CPAT is state-run and is valid for other departments too...

I didn't know that... I have bootlegs of those shows and they were some good ones. "Hell In A Bucket" wasn't written till about 15 years later, so maybe PCFD was partial inspiration? FDNY Engine 240 used to have t-shirts with the "Steal Your Face" logo in the maltese cross also, using the GD song title "Help On The Way" as the motto on the shirt... I know some departments have gotten explicit permission for using certain logos on rigs (Warner Bros. comes to mind)... but I would hope that any entertainment company or band would not mind a fire department using their logos. It's basically free advertising anyway.

Figured this story should appeal to many members of this site- tow truck enthusiasts, naval enthusiasts, etc... http://ryefire.com/index.cfm?fs=news.newsView&News_ID=68
