No this is not a digital delusion! Port Chester had their annual inspection tonight- and the units standing by were: Rye Car 2422 Rye Ladder 26 Mamaroneck Village Ladder 20 Ossining Engine 97 Mahopac Engine 18-2-3
-
10-4 on that, plus a couple of Port Chester members stayed with us.

The Stand-by was from about 6pm until about 10pm, and we did not get any calls (didn't get any calls last year either) I agree with "ajsbear"- It is great that there are some far-reaching friendships in the fire service. As far as Mahopac and Ossining being "far away" from their home areas-- this isn't any different than if they attended the Mamaroneck parade.

Is this a Rescue or a Rescue-Engine? I don't see a pump panel in the pic.

well... i can't argue with anyone who can make a point like that. Seriously, no sarcasm intended-- if you are gonna make a point, do it like JBE did, not just by typing a single sentence. JBE-- when are you going to read that speech on Citywide? haha j/k

From Firehouse Magazine's "Rekindles", October 2005: "Oct. 9, 1905: New Rochelle, NY - A wood-frame building that stored oil and gasoline was the scene of a stubborn fire. The alarm was turned in at 8pm and saw the response of the entire New Rochelle Fire Department within minutes. Gleaming rigs decked with flowers and firemen in full uniforms and white gloves were marching toward their annual inspection when the alarm rang out. An explosion extended the flames to several other structures, but the department was able to bring the stubborn fire under control."

If I'm "Lil Hash", then who the heck is BIG Hash?

Ok, this may have been talked about before, but... Why "10" codes? In other words, why don't we say "20-4" or "30-4"?? I'm not trying to bring up the "plain english" argument again! Just curious if anyone knows where and how the "10" thing started?
-
so we agree that the "10" codes are practical for this reason.... but when did they come into wide-spread use?
-
thats an excellent point! with any other starting number, you could get confused.

I've disliked the "new" Journal News ever since it stopped being the "Daily Item". I would rather read that free "Metro" paper Oh well, at least they still have Garfield.

I think this has been touched on but I couldn't find the old topic... This question is specific to New York State and/or Westchester County. Are there required reflective markings for fire apparatus? I am particularly wondering about markings on the rear of units that respond on the Interstate system. Google did not help in locating an "official" document on this topic... Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

One geographically-specific term that comes to mind would be the "Mattydale" hose bed. I believe the Mattydale, NY Fire Dept. (near Syracuse) was a pioneer in the use of cross-lays, and I have heard some of our senior members refer to the cross-laid pre-connects as "Mattydales"

Ok this is a stupid question since I was at the dinner... Is that the Mamaroneck Village or Town's car on the flatbed?

Thank you! Those pics are very helpful

Date: 10/1/05 Time: 0900 Location: I-95 Northbound in the area of Harrison Ave Frequency: 46.260 Units Operating: Rye: E191, U39, 2421, 2422, 2423 Harrison: E12, 2161, 2163, Harrison PD (E11 and R19 responded to thruway also, see below) Also: NYSPD, PC/R/RB EMS Description of Incident: Fatal MVA, Van vs. Scooter Writer: 242steve with info from 25truck26 0900: Rye was toned out for Serious MVA, involving a motorcyle, reported to be I-95 northbound, just south of exit 19. En route, Rye units were updated that patient was going into "traumatic arrest" Rye units had already committed to the thruway when it was deemed that this was actually in Harrison's jurisdiction. Harrison units responded and some Rye and Harrison units remained on scene for up to 3 hours to aid with traffic and wash-down of the scene. Some equipment was contaminated and the front bumper pre-connect "trash line" from E191 was discarded. Members who were on scene reported a Vespa-type scooter was lodged under a van, the patient had already been removed by EMS upon FD arrival. Patient was pronounced dead at Sound Shore. As units cleared the scene, they discovered a non-related incident further up the road that was also in Harrison. Another van was leaking fuel and oil and Harrison Engine 11 and Rescue 19 responded because Engines 12 and 191 had used all of their speedy-dry.
