It is with deep regret that the Stamford public safety family announces the passing of Retired Fire LT. & Dispatcher Walter Finch, after a 16 month battle with cancer. Walt was a true professional, a man with dignity, class, and that calm reassuring voice over the radio that we all became so familiar with, as well as a great all around guy and true friend! Our deepest sympathy goes out to his wife, children, and entire family. Services are as follows: Wake: Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave, Stamford CT - Wednesday, 01/06/10, 4pm-8pm Funeral Services on Thursday 01/07/10 are private.

Chief- we had many good times together over the past years, and even managed to put out a few fires along the way! You will be greatly, greatly missed by myself and so many others. My thoughts are with your family in this most sad time.

Full story: http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_...ive_trim_1.html As I said to my former co-worker (from 264 Huntington Ave) who witnessed the aftermath- This is why in the fire service we are taught not to step on or rest aerial devices against cornice!

It is with the deepest sadness that the Stamford, CT emergency services family passes along to our brothers and sisters around the nation and around the world the news of the passing of Randy Samaha. Randy was one of the nicest guys you would ever meet, and I personally will miss his good-humored nature that made working the midnight shift that much more bearable. Randy said it best about himself on his Facebook page: From the Stamford Advocate:

Equipment and personnel used for this "Photo Op"... Millions of $$$$$$ Paying someone to create the same scene in Photoshop... Hundreds of $$ Government making an @$$ out of itself when its already wallowing... Priceless.

For agencies using the National Academy EMD protocol, there is already a provision for asthma, bee stings and other known allergies, etc... I don't have a card set in front of me, but you basically tell the caller or patient "If their/your doctor has instructed them/you to do something (a.k.a. take something, inject something...) in this situation, they/you may do it now." Basically you are reminding them to think about what their doctor has already told them to do.

Thank you Bob for being part of some of my favorite memories throughout the years. Ladies and gentlemen... a true Yankee legend... Mr. Bob... Sheppard...

For the Facebook savvy people out there... my friend who lives within eye/ear-shot of the Mamaroneck Avenue RR Bridge just started a group to chronicle the semi-weekly truck-into-bridge incidents at that location, but he also encourages people to add stories and photos of other locations/incidents too! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=74969213640

Condolences to the families and comrades of the fallen officers.

Yep, it's mandatory, as is EMD certification and in turn CPR. The CT Dept. of Public Safety (DPS) has a sub-division called OSET (Office of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications) that oversees 9-1-1 training and certification. Their headquarters is up in Middletown. http://www.ct.gov/dps/cwp/view.asp?a=2150&q=294326 There's also a phone company training facility in West Hartford that provides training for the 9-1-1 ANI/ALI equipment.

While I realize that Nissan itself is based over-seas, the Hybrid Altimas are built in Smyrna, Tennessee. Also keep in mind that NYC Sanitation already has a huge fleet of Toyota Prius... "The Big 3" are just way behind on "green" technology.

At least they weren't toasting almonds... (or processing massive amounts of grass clippings!)

Hey everyone- A friend of mine has a business associate who just purchased an old firehouse in Manhattan on Lafayette St between Broome and Grand. The only info I have is that it was commissioned in 1886, and designed by the firm of N. Le Brun & Sons (which I gather was the official architect firm of the New York City Fire Department in the later part of the 1800's) Any further information, especially in regards to what company or companies used this house and when/why it was decommissioned would be greatly appreciated! Here's a [poorly stitched together] photo from Google street view...

Thanks for the additional info!
