  1. Define Irony: The 911 Calltaker probably had some food that was getting cold while he/she answered this woman's call!
  2. Dockside Deli in Rye (between the Milton Firehouse and the Marina) they call it a "Dock Dog" Kelly's Sea Level in Rye (at the "5 points") try the "Death Dog"! and JP's Standby on the PC/Greenwich border (Next to Cumby's) ...Walter's is still the only place I know where you can get those deep fried mashed sweet potatoes!
  3. Hess Truck Trivia: The first Hess Fire Truck (1970-71) now goes for over $400 on eBay!
  4. Isn't Village of Mamaroneck Ladder 20 (Sutphen Tiller) a 105'? Also, kiind of off topic, since I don't think there are any nearby... Metz Fire Apparatus (www.metz-apparatus.com) makes a 175 ft. Aerial Ladder!!! I believe these have only been sold overseas, so who knows if they are anywhere near NFPA compliant. But-- can you imagine trying to get a scared person to climb down that thing with you? It would take forever!
  5. Don't mean to "hijack"... Can someone tell me what ETOH stands for? I know its similar to saying "Intox Party"... Anyone? Anyone? Vinny? Bueller?
  6. Anyone here dealt with a reported EDP that turned out to be a guy/girl on PCP? Does that stuff really make them feel/have super-human strength? "Drugs are bad, mmm'kay"
  7. Engine 61 is from Port Chester...
  8. Dueling Ambulance Corps and Raquel Welch... who could ask for more!? Also, don't forget The Towering Inferno! As far as the original topic-- I can watch Backdraft 10 times a day, Ladder 49 maybe every other week...
  9. Umm... how about the 1950s until NOW. Rye Ladder 26, 1955 Maxim 85' Tractor-Drawn Aerial Refurbished in 1985 with a Spartan Tractor Original Factory Photo: Recent photo at http://www.emtbravo.com/FAD/Rye.html
  10. Boston E37/L26 (Huntington Ave Express) has been in the Top 5 of the country's busiest fire companies for quite a while.
  11. Bye-Bye Red Sox! See you in April.
  12. Sounds like a good idea! Hand-held power tools have been using double-insulation for years- it makes sense that they are doing something similar with rescue tools. I wish my personal drill and sawzall would react "visually" to electrical current-- that would be much better than the old light-bulb-in-the-teeth method. Also, rescue tools aren't just for extrication- Who knows where and when else you might utilize the cutter or spreader where electrical current might be present.
  13. As Seth and Art mentioned... satellite seems to be the "wave of the future"... What worries me is that kids who are at the age where they start to really get into music won't have any "alternative" station to listen to. I'm not saying that they must listen to alternative rock, but I think its important to be able to hear everything thats out there and then make your choice. See you on Sirius.
  14. If you are on the eligible list from Exam 68-903 (Comm Op Trainee) from January 2005... I'm on the list and just got a "canvas letter" from the DES today. Basically this means that you need to reply and let them know whether or not you are interested in the job. If you indicate that you ARE, then they will consider you for the hiring process (interviews, paperwork, etc.) The letter very clearly states "This is not an offer of employment - do not leave your present job." You need to let them know by November 1, so check your mail! Good luck! (As some of you know, I have just started a new job at another communications center, and will not be seeking employment at 60- so if if you were ranked after me on the list and end up getting the job, you can thank me with a guided tour sometime )
  15. I think there were only about 6 people on it... I judge this by the fact that there were 8 people at the typing test, and I think 2 failed the typing test... If you factor in the fact that the County PD hired at least 1 (I think) and that I am not interested... Sounds like you have a 1 in 4 chance, assuming they only are looking for 1 person. If they want to hire 2 people, you have a 50/50 chance. Not bad odds! .....of course now that I think about it, I suppose they could have held more than one session of the typing test, which would mean that there are more eligible people out there...
  16. Idea: If a new neighbor moves in, tell them that you are a volunteer and that the dept. is always looking for new members of all ages and genders, etc... If every one of us did this with every new neighbor... (I'm not good with statistics, but you get the point)
  17. Two antennas decided to get married. The ceremony was nothing special, but the reception was awesome.
  18. is that drummer a MOS? or just a stock internet photo?
  19. Duplicate post, sorry.
  20. There have been several occasions where I have heard: "Identifier to 60" pause.... "Identifier to 60" pause.... "Identifier to 60-Control" "60-Control is on...." This has led me to believe that if you want a quick response, you should try to raise them by using "60-Control" or "County Control"
  21. I guess I should have called them...
  22. 648- I see that the DES hasn't put parental controls on your internet access! ...or do you spend an equal amount of time surfing at home?
  23. Last year, the test was given in October, the typing was done in November, and they established the list in mid-January. The trick to the typing test is accuracy, not speed. Only 8 or 9 people took the 2004 test- how many sat for it this year? ...and did anyone on this site take the County PD job that was offered to people who were on that list (68-903)?
  24. I was just trying to share some interesting photos with fellow buffs. Thanks for ruining it for everyone. This message will self-destruct.
