Hey since I'm probably not the only one who drives a gas-guzzling pickup truck (or SUV, etc...) I thought we should all share where we can find cheap gas around the Westchester area. I've been going to the Shell on Rte 22 (North Broadway) in North White Plains.

JBE-- My post was in relation to the original topic, not to your post-- sorry for any confusion... The point I was trying to make was-- You wouldn't send ONLY Fire Apparatus to a Criminal Problem, so why would you send ONLY Police Units to a Fire Problem?
-
You wouldn't send an Engine or Truck to "Check and Advise" on a report of shots fired...

That would be my dad that he's talking about "flying out the door"... I've had a scanner since I was about 13, and used to turn it on everytime that I heard him going down the stairs at some un-godly hour of the morning (of course I would peak out the window, waiting for the blue light to come on) and would wait to hear "Patrol 3 is 10-17". 12 years later and now I'm qualified to drive that same rig that I used to help him wash for parades (Although now its "Utility 39 responding...") For anyone keeping track... my family now has 1 in each of the 4 Rye companies, and 1 in N.W.P.

I know in many municipalities it is standard for the police to be stationed right in front of the nearest hydrant... Sorry to our friends in blue!! I know many of you were thinking the same! But seriously, it is always good to notify the PD of any major fire activity... you never know what kind of maniacs either... 1) Live in the fire building 2) Are trying to get into the fire building 3) Set the fire building ON fire etc... Every city has certain neighborhoods/buildings where PD response to a fire scene are more or less appropriate... That's not to say that they aren't needed at a mansion fire in horse country, but that should be part of size-up by the OIC, is to determine what sort of PD response is warranted.

Date: 2/15/06 Time: approx 1430 Location: 4 Wards Park East (Cross of Beck Ave//Forest Ave) Frequency: 46.26 and Fireground 3 Units Operating: Rye- 2421, 2423, E191, E192, L25. Harrison- 2163, E10. WCDES Battalion 15. Port Chester/Rye/Rye Brook EMS. Rye PD. Units on Standby: Purchase- 2411, E240. Village of Mamaroneck- 2243, L20 Description Of Incident: Working fire in the upper crawlspaces of a single family wood-frame. Writer: 242steve (Sorry I don't have exact times... Was on the scene!) • 60-Control toned out Rye for Possible Structure Fire • E191, E192, L25, Cars 2421 and 2423 en-route • E192 on the scene reported smoke showing • Car 2421 advised 60-Control of 10-75. • Rye re-toned for 10-75. • 2421 requested Harrison Engine to the scene. • 2421 requested 1 and 1 to standby at Rye's Station 2 • Harrison's E10 and Car 2163 on the scene • Purchase E240 and Village of Mamaroneck L20 en-route to standby Upon arrival, there was heavy smoke showing from attic vents and elsewhere on the roof. L25 laddered the peak of the roof on the A-side, and a crew went up to vent. At the same time, E191 layed-in several lengths of 5" LDH from the hydrant at the corner of Beck and Forest and relayed to E192 with another couple of lengths of 5" LDH. Meanwhile, a team stretched a 1-3/4" pre-connect from E192 in the front door to the top floor and found fire in a crawlspace just off of a top-floor bedroom that had extended into the spaces just under the roof. As E192's crew began to get water on the fire, the fire started coming through the roof in the center of the structure just behind the chimney. The Truck crew cut the first hole, and due to the roof being vented, the hose team was able to push it out fairly quickly. Excellent work by all personnel on the scene for a quick stop! Harrison's Engine and Chief arrived extremely quickly with well more than a full crew, and were extremely helpful in all aspects of knock-down, overhaul and clean-up. Purchase and Village of Mamaroneck also had crews ready in the Milton Firehouse.

I need to get in touch with "621West", the photographer of some of the Ossining (123 Main St) pictures. I tried sending a PM to that name, but it didn't work. If you are reading this, and you know him/her, please pass along my e-mail address. sloddo@optonline.net Thanks!

Many people don't realize that Banksville (and Pound Ridge) also go "auto mutual" into Stamford, in the north reaches of Long Ridge's district... As far as radios, they have capability to transmit on Stamford's "154" frequency, but Stamford Fire Dispatch does not keep track of their unit status (that remains in the hands of 60-Control) PS - If 2581 is reading this, I talked to you on "154" yesterday, which I found kinda funny since I'm used to hearing you on 46.260.
