  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SETH!!
  5. Congrats!!! I'm due in October...hope my little one isn't that big!! Glad to hear everyone is doing good. Speaking from experience, being a "firehouse brat" is the best!! Your "family" is always there for you. Best of luck with everything. I did see bunker gear (more like a set of overalls but looked good) somewhere for the wee little ones. If I come across it again I will post the info for ya!
  6. I don't believe that this was to discourage the younger generation to post. I think it was to try to make them more aware of what some of them are posting. I have only been a FF/EMT for about 5-6 years now. Although I feel I have learned a great deal, there is still soo much to learn. I was once told by an older much more seasoned brother that you never stop learning, and when you feel that you know it all is when you will get yourself hurt or killed. There are some people, both young and old, that post on here and think they know everything about everything. I try to read just about everything on here so I can continue to learn. I think what was being expressed is that some in the younger generation (and I don't just mean age, I mean experience) that may not have as much knowledge as a more seasoned member are acting like they know it all. Maybe EVERYONE should take more time to read other's posts before shoving their own 2 cents in. We don't all know it all (although there are 2 or 3 of my "mentors" that I really think are close!!) and should use this forum to learn and for information in our fields. Sorry if I am out of place for posting this, but I have felt this way for a few months now. I just didn't want to be the first to say something!! As for the "older" more seasoned generation on this forum...THANK YOU for your knowledge and input. I myself have learned a few things here, and am happy that there are still some "good old boys" around to teach me a thing or two!!!
  7. I have some pretty good techniques....but that would mean giving up my old department's secrets!!! Anyone from East Fishkill care to let the secret out??? But terry cloths to dry and polish do work very well. Also, try something like lime away to get rid of the spots before polishing. That's all I can share...My lips are sealed
  8. Not sure if I'm posting this in the right topic or not.... A friend of mine is interested in buying a 1951 Mack pumper from a state auction. Not quite sure how much it is worth, and he definitely doesn't want to bid too little...or too much!! Anyone know of where to find out it's value???
  9. It has approximately 10,000 miles on it. Supposively it is in "good" condition with little to no rust and runs.
  10. Happy Birthday Nate!! Don't have too much fun without me...
  11. J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS! Sorry...I had to! And yes...I HATE the Patriots. So GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!
  12. If I remember correctly, when the crossings were closed, the members of the local department received a letter ("permission slip") to cross them when responding to calls. Although I'm sure we've all used them a time or two when we weren't supposed to (right xfirefighter464x?? )

  20. Well, it's 10 years today, and it still feels like just yesterday that we lost Mike. The impression that he left on all of us will never be forgotten. I hope everyone is going to try and be in Brewster for his memorial...he deserves the best! Remember 585 I miss and love you Mike!!!
  21. East Fishkill took Beat Aerial and 2nd Best Non Reg
  22. East Fishkill took Best Overall Out of County
  23. As part of Carmine's family, I too would like to extend my thanks to all that attended his wake and funeral. The turnout really shows what true family we all are in the fire service!
  24. I can't believe it has been 10 years since Mike's been gone! I can still close my eyes and picture the days and weeks that followed the tragic loss of such a wonderful and caring man. My "family" lost one of our best that day, but he will never be forgotten. I can only imagine how proud Mike must be of his children, I am sure he is looking down and smiling (wow, they all grew up soo fast!!). I hope he is smiling down at me too, and that I have made him proud of what I have already accomplished and what I hope to accomplish in the future. I love and miss you Mike! You will always be the angel on my shoulder. Remember 585.
  25. Great job Jeff!! Good job being alert and doing the right thing Oh, and while I'm here - why all the negativity about not letting the chief speak? If Jeff was specifically mentioned by the owners, even if this did happened in Brewster, he still should've been able to say something! Did any of you that are bashing the article and/or Jeff happen to notice that his wife and children were mentioned also? I think this was a very nice article, and a very nice pat on the back to a great fireman and wonderful man. Personally knowing Jeff, I am sure all of this will just settle inside, he's not an attention seeker. He's a fireman to save lives and property....NOT to get recognition (which I thought we all were)!!! I think it's about time the media focused on something good and not the few bad seeds we have in the fire service.
