  1. I thought that the Tahoes were 2WD??
  2. For those who haven't seen them, I have a short video of a NYSP cruiser with a Whelen LED lightbar on it! Unfortunately, this video doesn't do the lightbar ANY justice at ALL!!!!
  3. I think in part is the additional mileage that EFFD has to travel to get to/from the hospital adds quite some wear and tear to them. I believe that in the last year, there are over 20,000 miles on each ambulance. Also, the ambulances have no SET designation. Being as they are identical, when one goes out for mechanical issues, whether it be "-71" or "-72", the remaining automatically becomes 39-71, since "39-71" is the full-time rostered ambulance for EF. The only way that EFFD ambulances have "set designations" is through the Radio Identifiers. Always funny to hear the dispatchers (sorry to make fun, but it is funny) get all confused when 39-72 calls out responding, and they see 39-71 pop up on the CAD system. Hearing some of them pause and stumble as they try and figure it out can be priceless. Also adding to the confusion is that the 2 ambulances are switched every week-few weeks to keep the mileage even. BTW, I have FULL respect for the dispatchers, but if you can't laugh at things like that, then you must be sad and depressed.
  4. I do see police escorts as being somewhat beneficial. Although ambulance DO have their own lights and sirens, cops can ride slightly ahead, parting traffic for the upcoming ambulance. Also, when one agency knows, usually word gets through to other agencies, who can be on the lookout for the pathway the ambulance is taking. Does not necessarily mean you have to drive at Mach 1. Humbly IMO.
  5. Cannot speculate on reasons, but from description that it started rotating, possibly a tail rotor failure?
  6. In some parades, judges do go around and open compartment doors to inspect tool placement, cleanliness, etc..... This is just a simpler way to save them time, and I guess keep the judges from touching their un-ripened firetruck
  7. As far as what do you mean unified? All commercial and public agencies are dispatched by Dutchess 911 up here, and from there, many commercial agencies have their own dispatch center. Not to single them out, but Mobile Life, and I'm sure Alamo also runs a similar operation. "DC911 to XYZ and Mobile Life, respond Priority 1 for a ...." No specific unit gets dispatched. From there, the commercial agency dispatch center dispatches a unit for that call (hopefully the closest unit available). Now if you are talking OVERALL unification, DC911 does Police, Fire, and EMS all through the same center. Different frequencies, yes, but same operations center. Hopefully that is what you were referring to, otherwise, let me know and maybe I can clarify a bit more.
  8. [sarcasm] What are you talking about?? That NEVER happens!! [/sarcasm]
  9. Well, now that this has all been publicized, he seems to be famous. See if you can go out and get his OTTER-GRAPH!!!
  10. Oh please, that is so bad. The whole situation seems to be OTTER NONSENSE Get it?? OTTER NONSENSE. Sounds like utter....oh nvm
  11. My girlfriend just read this and is now fearing her own cat!!!!
  12. Has anyone ever heard of these guys/this program? I am really interested in attending. Wanted to see if anyone is affiliated, or what the whole deal is.
  13. To anyone who will be attending, see you bright and early!! Never bothered to get the knee pads or camelback or anything, hope I don't regret that too much
  14. It was late and I was half asleep, but I felt it had to be made!
  15. I want to expand upon your statement sr71. I don't think ANYONE should EVER be driving drunk, and a 17 year old should not even be drinking anything at all. [RANT]We shall just have to wait and see as mommy and daddy's multi-million dollar lawyer get her off with the metaphorical slap on the wrist *cough cough* Paris Hilton *cough*, claiming something along the lines of emotionally disturbed, so she gets to go to "rehab" or some cushy psych center until she is "better" and the gets away with probation or something along those lines. I don't want to critique any law enforcement officials here, this is not your fault, but I have lost faith in the upper judicial system. When someone who possesses some form/amount/sort of illicit drug, and ends up having a 10 year sentence (just making a number up), yet these rich snobby *censored* get away with murder (literally and figuratively). [/RANT]
  16. This may/may not be a stupid question. What is a "Canteen" unit? Is it something along the lines of a rehab/refreshment unit for hot/cold days /long enduring events?
  17. Amazing. Simply amazing. I am so impressed by the stupidity, and pure ignorance by people these days. I know the justice system works through "assumed innocent until proven guilty" but I mean, c'mon. To go and plead innocent to such a thing and "be so concerned about the firefighters". *sniff sniff* I smell something, does anyone else? Its the ripe old smell of BULLSH!T !!!!
  18. Being in the 845 region, making phone calls to the 914 region, I sometimes do slip and double hit 9-1-1, although I hangup as soon as I realize, usually milliseconds after hitting it. So far to date, no law enforcement officials have showed up, nor have I had the dreaded call-back, when you feel retarded for accidentally dialing it, especially being in the field we are in, lol.
  19. I just got a message from Ladder47, and he is a member of the Elmont FD, on Long Island, which is the department which we got our Young Snorkel from. He is going to post some pictures and more information when he becomes a verified member! TurboRich, if you could, please forward to me any of those pictures you said you think you have, or post them here, if you can!!
  20. Better hope the late night news recap doesn't play in the jail! Those guys coming in will be fresh meat! http://www.break.com/index/major_drug_bust.html
  21. HEY!!! Thats MY line!!!! And yes, I do agree!
  22. NICE!!!! The claymore of tasers!!
  23. Just out of curiosity, I see a discrepancy in the phone numbers. One says 617, the other says 612. Just curious which one is correct, or if they are both correct numbers, and different for a reason?? I highly recommend this event to everyone, the food is always great!!!! This is the first year they have expanded past just Chili, and now offer the competition for chowder and wings as well. As if your indigestion wasn't bad enough before!!
  24. **Bump Class is in just over a week! Who else from here is definitely taking it?
