  1. Depends, were they white coats? P.S. this was not an attack on any individual, I originally mis-read the post to say "about firefighters". Besides, if we all cannot have a good laugh, what is there to live for??
  2. Ya know, I knew this drobinson, but it didn't even click when I was posting. So very true. FDNY are idolized by many in the vollie communities, and people want to be like them. While not ALL are like that, like you said, people pick up on others bad habits.
  3. For me, it is usually out of sheer forgetfulness. I know a few people I have talked to do it "because it helps if you go down". For those who have taken FAST, for a victim to be dragged by their pack harness, you should disconnect the waist strap, and feed one behind, and one in front of the legs, going through the legs, to make it a cradle in your, well, crotch. This being said, these guys feel "it will save the guys coming to rescue me time to connect them between my legs". Funny thing though, if you go down, who the hell knows where your waist straps will end up. If they ARE in fact buckled where they SHOULD be, there will be no searching around for straps under you, or accidentally tucked BEHIND your waist, stuck between your back and the pack. Just my 2 cents.
  4. WHOA! Thats quite a vehicle. Never seen one, can't imagine what a JAWS job that would be.
  5. I know you know where it is, that was merely meant to demonstrate how easy it is to get there. Besides, now those who did not know, now know where to look! I was merely stating the fact that there are many "buttons" and "links" up top, like its not confusing enough as is? Just my opinion, it was not meant as an attack on you!
  6. I think there are more than enough links on the top of the page. I mean, this is a fun optional thing, I don't see the need for more links on top. Just go to Points, and Lotto. Easy enough.
  7. I just gave Stiloski's a call, and apparently they are looking for F/T, which could start immediately. I wish I could, and would love to find something that could work around my school schedule.
  8. Probies getting lazier and lazier these days?

  10. My little trip took me from Dutchess County Airport, around the county, out to the Catskills, and back. Here are some of my more interesting shots. All are not the greatest, so be gentle. Here is my beloved (and hopefully ALUMNUS college soon) DCC The Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge, and the Mid-Hudson Bridge Fire Tower out by Hunter Mountain Hunter Mountain
  11. The beginning of the Catskills by Kingston The Ashokan Reservoir Back to Dutchess County. the CIA
  12. I use my Survivor light for all kinds of things, but mainly on my turnout gear. I had an issue with a part breaking on mine, contacted Streamlight, they had me send it back in, repaired FREE OF CHARGE, and returned it promptly. I highly recommend Streamlight, any model!
  13. Although the vehicle has spot mirrors (below standard side mirrors), the left front corner can be somewhat easily viewed due to its proximity to the driver, either by leaning over the dash, or peeking out the window. The opposing corner is a blind spot not covered by the spot mirrors below the Pass. side side mirror. Thats just my guess. If you look at FDNY R-1, they have that same mirror type on the new rig. The older Rescue 1 also had these on both sides!
  14. I see 'em on the TSP all the time, they stop to assist at MVAs and such. Aren't they run by the DOT? I think they have flares, and signs (like fold out caution signs) and I think they are mainly there as a safety vehicle for broken down motorists, and they assist the FD on occasion. They may also have a jumper box, but I haven't really actually stopped to ask them their purpose/training or equipment. An interesting point you bring up!
  15. Wow, this is all news to me. I would be very interested to see where this goes. Even though they say it has "been around" or "been researched" since the 80s, I hope something will come of it!
  16. That's one extreme soccer fan! Mike Thats one unprepared FD.

  21. Simply put, if you possess a scanner that is CAPABLE of receiving, or interfering with any channel used by a PD, you are guilty of a misdemeanor. I have never known and PO to issue a FF/EMT for possession of a scanner, so long as it is for a legitimate use, for example, a firefighter or EMT who uses a device to listen to fire frequencies. The wording of the law states CAPABLE. This means that EVEN IF you don't actually have any PD frequencies in it, so long as it COULD POSSIBLY hear them, it is illegal. Again, I hav never known a PO to issue a FF or EMT for such a violation, so long as their intentions are honorable.
  22. I used to check very often, but only once in a blue moon do I check EMTBravo.com
  23. New Hackensack is merely a fire department in Dutchess County. They have no affiliation with any medical center(s). http://www.nkfd.org
