  1. Well, I guess my point being that the cop my have considered going for his sidearm, yet chose instead to deploy his less than lethal alternative.
  2. I believe it had a lot to do with pressure from the FDs. This whole action took place before I joined the fire service, so I do not have first hand knowledge.
  3. With my 2 year contract up in February, and after questioning from Nextel as to my plans once it is up, I voiced my displeasure with the Nextel service, or lack thereof. They tried to convince me to upgrade to the Hybrid phone service. After reading this, I am pretty well convinced that Verizon will be my plan of choice! Thank you!
  4. Ok, good, I thought I was losing it there for a minute!!
  5. Sure doesn't look like any emergency response vehicle I've ever seen before!! The unfortunate thing is that there is nothing to prevent any normal person from abusing the open crossings. I'm guessing it is more implied that the Emergency Responders means even POVs. So long as it is used for emergency calls, NYSP haven't hassled any fire or EMS that I know of.
  6. The signs say "Emergency Responders Only". I live on one of these roads that has such an at-grade crossing. The closings were a result of multiple serious MVAs, many fatal ones. I have never ran into any problems with using such a crossing in my POV, as any alternative route would double or triple distances traveled.
  7. And actually, now that I re-read this thread, I thought it originally said 500+ posts, and now it reads 350. Did I mis-read it originally, or did you decide to change the requirements??
  8. Ok, got my curiosity going here. Will there be additional tiers to the membership levels. Since 500 gets Alpha Member, would there be anything for 1000 posts? 1500? etc....
  9. You guys notice on the second view how the truck that drove past when the fireball went, and hit his truck, pulled over to the side of the road right after passing by? He had to jump out of his truck and check his trousers!! Good find!!
  10. Here is the thread where a bunch of different agencies are pointed out who have the "bug eyes" http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=17965 I have seen NYSP and Town of Poughkeepsie with these units in use up here in Dutchess Co.
  11. Thanks Tom. I always vote Republican, don't know why they were all Democrats. Maybe I should try again?? Best 2 out of 3???
  12. Ok, I know the Bronto model, I have seen Verplank's before. I just didn't see the bucket the first time I looked. I am thinking that the Bronto in the video was seen in the E-One/Saulsbury shop, and not Fleet Services @ FDNY.
  13. Christopher Dodd 65% similarity Joe Biden 65% similarity Barack Obama 63% similarity Like you said abaduck, thanks the LORD Hillary was not on my list.
  14. In the second video, at 6:15-6:16, what vehicle is that?!?!?!?!
  15. Most certainly. I guess my posting boiled down to what you said, I just didn't say it in so many words!
  16. I guess the FPAT works well enough to narrow the field for people who want the job bad enough to show up, and to ensure people fit enough to stay on the list, huh? It is a very good idea, and unheard of in anything other than extremely progressive departments. There can be an envisioned uproar about this in a lot of communities, I am sure, but the idea is a noble one. Wanting to ensure that the people you entrust to help the public can handle the stresses without overtaxing their selves is quite a concept [sarcasm] imagine that! [/sarcasm] Like I said, I am sure many would be opposed to it, but what it REALLY comes down to is this: You (the department) are ultimately responsible for these people, and their appearance, and capabilities. If you want to REALLY ensure that they are "qualified", you have to go for it, and not worry too much about what everyone else THINKS! If this comes to fruition, please let me know how it will work out, I am quite curious!
  17. Nope, that is Beekman's Rescue truck, which was called in m/a for the 2nd MVA on 84 at that time. It is Millbrook's former Rescue truck, donated (or purchased for very minimal amount) after the apparatus accident and LODD Beekman had a few years back.

  20. Bill, great photos yet again, and I love the reminiscing. Even though it was WELL before my time (yea, I was 1 year old att) it is still great to see these pics. Now if only I was able to identify anyone...
  21. I think it is a bit too soon to be bringing this subject up (or too late, depending on how you look at it). I recommend putting it to the side for at least a week, let things settle down a bit. Just my 2 cents.
  22. Read previous postings if you are curious. 9 times out of 10, you can find answers to questions already posted. Prayers and condolences for all, the family, friends, and job-related family of ESA.
  23. Ok, since ALS cannot divulge his secrets, I will for him. Sorry to ruin your secret signal ALS.
  24. IBM sent their Foam Tender Engine (96-13) to assist EFFD 5 years ago when there was a tractor trailer full of old tires on their way to be recycled. Long operational period. I-84 Westbound, about 500 feet West of Lime Kiln Road overpass.
