I have heard a lot of good things about those cooling chairs. For those that do not know how they work, there are basically trenches built into the arms of the chairs, allowing Rehab to fill them with cool water. You leave your arms in the cool water, since the vessels in your arm are close to the surface than in other areas of your body (and easily accessible) it cools your core a lot faster.

The problem with doing that is there are so many "what-if's". Every time an MVA gets toned out, will they put a helicopter on standby, just because there is "the possibility for a serious injury" even though the dispatch info did not disseminate that? I mean, yes, there are many times that a low-priority MVA gets dispatched, and it ends up being something a lot more serious, but come on, where do you draw the line?? I have the pleasure of seeing the StatFlight/LifeNet crews often, working at Saint Francis, and they are a great bunch of men and women, but I think people over-use their services, as so many have pointed out here. I have seen an older flyer from StatFlight, before LifeNet took them over, with guidelines for calling them. I will see if I cannot make a copy and post it on here.

Why put it on standby?? It was my understanding that the flight crew would rather be on the way, and I personally agree, knowing that they are already halfway there, and can be canceled, rather than have to have them warm up the craft, and then take off, losing precious minutes already. You are entirely entitled to your opinion, just as I am. I think HOW you came across was unnecessary, and I still feel that way. This is no disrespect to the men and women who serve this country on a daily basis, on foreign fronts, or those who serve right here on the home front. It is the system as a whole that is morally degrading, and I think you would be hard pressed to find many that disagree. Are some things here better than you can find anywhere else in the world?? Sure they are, but come on, are we a perfect nation, or one that has our problems??? And how much better are we if we sit back and do not speak out against what we believe are the injustices??? The system allows for such injustices. This is right up there along the lines of people who sue car manufacturers when THEY have an accident, for no reason of the manufacturers fault. It could blatantly be their fault, yet they merely sue for the Deep Pockets principle, and it disgusts me. But what is there to do. All you need to sue these days is a pen. That is so, because all you need is to sign the papers, and sign your checkbook. Sad, isn't it?

Now ya see, its people like you who have some common sense and speak it, who give me hope in this world, lol!!! If you (generic, not specifying any single person here) were coming home from your job of being a career FF, saw a house on fire, stopped and ran in to try save someone, and God forbid, died, would that be a LODD? The story I heard on the TV last night said that he was flying on standby, and a flight attendant gave up her seat so he could sit down, and she opted to sit in one of the fold-away jump seats. Apparently the seat wasn't as comfortable as she thought, and she requested her seat back, and then the pilot told the man to "hang out in the bathroom". Was it right? Well, I guess that is up for the courts to decide.
