RIP Officer Coleman. A very tragic, and chilling photograph... Incident Alert
-
In a link, in the Incident Alert. If people feel it inappropriate, please, feel free to remove. I find it a chilling, touching .

I concur. I think the question would have been better suited as a PM, just my 2 cents...

In addition to the above rules, the following format shall be used. If posted in a forum specific to ONE County (i.e. Incident Alert-Dutchess County forum), it IS NOT necessary too post the county in parentheses: Proper: Poughkeepsie - 3rd Alarm w/victims - 3-7-09 Improper: Poughkeepsie (Dutchess) - 3rd Alarm w/victims - 3-7-09 However, if it is an Incident Alert in, say, the Incident Alert- Rockland & Orange County Forum, it is requested you post the title to specify which county it is in, as such: Proper: Montgomery (Orange) HazMat Incident - 6-9-10 Or the Incident Alert-National/International Forums, we ask that you specify the state, and city/town/village: Proper: Tuskaloosa, AL - Major Emergency Train Derailment - 7-25-09 For postings made in Incident Alert- New York City, we ask that you specify the Borough Proper: Queens - Major Building Collapse - 7-12-05 Any IA that is deemed to be improper, have incorrect spelling, or has not been updated (i.e. a fire goes from a 2nd alarm up to a 5th alarm), the Moderators of this site reserve the right to alter any and all IAs to conform to our posting policies. Thank you, and happy posting!

Droid user, Droid lover. Saw the 'Incredible' the other day, and want one, although I have been hearing rumors about the upcoming "Android Shadow", which one was discovered similarly to the iPhone several months back, by being left behind, and uncovered by a tech related website.

Back in 2002 or 2003, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Unit came to my FD and have a couple hours lecture, and Powerpoint demonstration on Accident Scene Preservation. Things like this can help FFs to see an accident scene as something other than just a couple wrecked cars and patients, and thinking about it possibly being a crime scene (even down to minor to moderate MVCs), and to be cognizant and make all attempts to not disturb evidence. Now, I am by no means saying that is how FFs think of MVC scenes, but we can get complacent sometimes, and not think of some of these things while attempting to fulfill our own duties.

I know in a lot of places, the PDs are, at the bare minimum, beginning to equip most cruisers with an AED. If not even a First Responder (NYS Cert I am referring to), basic CPR and AED usage/training is invaluable. I have heard several cases firsthand, of a PO arriving on a scene, and administering shocks. Regardless of outcome, the basic premise, even for the cost of an AED, it is reusable ("cost-effective" for cash strapped departments, and, I do not know if the FIT5 is "rechargeable"/reusable), and can be invaluable to the potential outcome of a victim of cardiac arrest. Like Seth said in the first post: And with cardiac arrest, don't seconds count? I think a course such as mentioned above would be a great idea. First things first, get everyone on the same page. I think having a PO be able to know, and give a GOOD/PROPER size up would be the best thing for a first arriving officer. All too often, I hear over the radio "I'm on scene with a fully involved house", and come the FD getting on scene, it is a room and contents, or a stove fire, or fire in an attic, etc...I think this gives a misconception to all responding FD units, when the dispatcher comes over relating that PD is on scene with [insert description here], so one begins to mentally prepare for the aforementioned situation, only to get on scene and have something completely different. Getting everyone to know/understand the lingo, and proper terms can help scale up, or scale down a response properly, a lot sooner. I only speak from a FD perspective, because that is what I come from, and hope to hear, and learn some things that a LEO would like to know/see/hear from the FD. Funny Chris, in fire training, that's how they taught us to find the closest hydrant (look for the PD cruiser)!

Ladies and Gents... While I do see some good discussion on this, the topic is headed WAYYYYY towards an FNDY*EMS discussion, and not talking about Newburgh, and their interest in starting an EMS Agency. I do acknowledge there is some relative information that might be gathered from that discussion, but the relevance to NFD might be a little astray. Lets keep in mind some comparisons/differences between FDNY and Newburgh FD: 1) Demographics (is a city, some similarities, compare size of city to go along with #3 below) 2) Budget - Immensely different 3) Department size/City Size 4) Staffing levels to go along with #3 (above) I am no expert in any way, shape, or form, in this area, so I was curious, by reading the article, if it is an ALS service provided by the Fire Department, how can they recoup funds in this way? Will it be an ambulance service "provided for by the FD" or will it actually be a separate agency? I guess what it comes down to is, if it was an FD run operation, how can they bill if they are provided for through taxes, isn't that double dipping?? Just looking for clarification, not pointing any fingers, or throwing any accusations around...

Incident Alert - http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=37210 I wanted to extend a congratulations to all that were on the scene of the fire in LaGrange last night, I know a lot of those people on scene are members here, including 'on the job'. Joe and LaGrange FF/Paramedic Anthony Champion made the grab of the elderly victim, extricated, and initiated treatment. This recognition is not intended to detract from the consolidated effort to rescue/save/revive the victim, which was amazing to witness firsthand (having never been on a scene with a rescued victim before). The victim was transported to St. Francis hospital, and then transferred to WMC. Hats off to LaGrange FD and Arlington Group 4 for a job well done, a good save and quick knockdown. I am privileged to know and call most of you friends, and fellow firefighters.

My suggestion then, sir, is to add a quote of the text you are replying to in your reply, like I did here, so it is more clear what/who you are referring to. A simple post, later on in the thread, with a mild reference to something from earlier on, might get misconstrued. Just a thought.

While you may feel this way, I have no connection to Stiloski's in any way, shape, or form, and I can fairly, accurately, and unbiased, say the following: Stiloski's has been a long time supporter of, and paying advertiser on EMTBravo, and they have more of a right than anyone else, to have their name and capabilities mentioned, and recognized (albeit that was probably not the intent), and I fully support that. If you were a paying advertiser, would you mind an extra mention?? Also keep in mind, the pictures posted IN THIS THREAD, which brought about this conversation, and accusations, were not by x635, but by jjpinto, who merely posted the pictures he chose to post. Just some food for thought... Joe, thank you for sharing these pictures, looks like a good, informative day for all! I learned a lot about YFD's, and Stiloski's capabilities from this thread (since I have no connection to, and VERY little knowledge of the workings/happenings in/of WC)!!

See the below thread from August 11, 2009 EMTBravo: Nissan GT-R Fire Engine The link in the thread seems to be dead, so here is a link to a similar article on this response vehicle, at the Nürburgring Track: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/03/nurburgring-rapid-response-nissan-gt-r-worlds-fastest-fire-eng/

Dan, The issue we run into is this: If we go nuts with moderating and "banning", we get people crying "censorship". If we back off, we get people crying about not enough moderating, and allowing bashing and free-for-alls. And if we single any one person out over an issue, we are "picking on them", instead of making a general statement. Seems we cannot win...

I think there should be a test before someone is permitted to post in the Shoutbox. Quite a few people were reminded MANY times the PROPER uses for the Shoutbox, yet filled it up with updates for the same incident instead of starting an IA, filled it up with nonsense posts/"incidents" etc... Needs to be a screening tool, such as a "test" so that people can prove they know the proper uses before they use it. Oh, and specific members should have privileges revoked for abuses...
