  1. Here's the link for you: http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/ems/certification/certification.htm
  2. Thanks, thought so! I was never a true RR Buff, although I have always had an affinity for it. Its too bad the rides didn't come this far West, I would definitely have had to go follow it, if I had not found the original thread until AFTER the move was made, lol! Thanks for the pictures of the move, AND the washout, definitely not things you see every day!!!

  6. You referred to this as 'The Beacon Line' is that aka Maybrook Line?
  7. Those are staggering figures. I knew that Westchester played ball in an entirely different fashion, but wow... We have 2 PSAP's here in Dutchess, the County, and City of Poughkeepsie. All cell calls come into the County, and if for the City, calls get transferred there, but all landlines in the City go straight to their center.
  8. I don't think it is so much purely the fact that he will not have the, for lack of a better word, 'opportunity' to Lie in State, that bothers me, I feel it is more the fact that some one (or enough people) were actually so opposed to this happening, that it was declined. Let's say, for a minute, that there was never even a possibility, or a thought, or a motion, or a vote to potentially have Mr. Buckles Lie in State, this thread, and everyone's opinions would be *, void, and, actually non-existent. I think the fact that when it did come up, and got so far as to coming down to a decision by one person, they did not have the balls enough to stand up and make what to ME, would be "the right" decision. Just as with an extinct animal, or a dying breed, once these people of immeasurable life experiences, and stories are gone, they're gone. Just a point of reference, Mr. Buckles served 3 years in the Military, 5 years before Bonehead... I mean Boehner's FATHER was born, spent 3 and a half years as a Japanese POW (non-military), and was rescued 4-5 years before BOEHNER was even born... It's not common enough for someone to live to 110 as it is, let along survive 2 World Wars, and then live another 65 years. Certainly puts things in a slightly different perspective for me...
  9. Sound more like poor planning...
  10. This is just another reason for me to justify hating politics. Serve 1 term, free healthcare for life, pension etc... Someone who served this country before his [boehner] father was probably even born... Oh, and according to Wikipedia, Boehner served a WHOPPING 8 Weeks in the USN before being honorably discharged. Yet a Vet who served before Television was invented cannot have Capitol Honors... Look at Bonehead... I mean Boenhner's stance on Defense: http://johnboehner.house.gov/Issues/Issue/?IssueID=3889 http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2011/03/04/2011-03-04_boehner_blocks_move_to_honor_frank_buckles_in_capitol_rotunda_west_virginia_sena.html According to the initial article posted here on the forums at the time of Mr. Buckles' death: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/28/AR2011022800165.html?hpid=topnews Mr. Boehner, you are an absolute disgrace. I cannot believe the quality of people elected these days to "represent us".
  11. Sadly... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_desecration#United_States So Cited: US v. Eichman Texas v. Johnson
  12. Sadly, this world needs jerkoffs like Phelps and those from the Westboro Baptist Church, because how else would we otherwise be able to distinguish the heroes, and "good guys". It is a necessary evil in our world, and, as Stepjam said: I cannot say in my right mind that I would condone such actions against these arrogant, ignorant people, despite knowing that it sometimes takes drastic action to get people's attention, and my heart says they need a taste of their own medicine. Maybe not justice in a legal sense, but poetic justice...
  13. I think very well deserved.

  15. I am posting this request of my own accord. The local Uniform Supply store has run out of white uniform gloves, and mourning bands. If anyone, department or otherwise has any supply of either White Uniform Gloves OR Mourning Bands to donate to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, please contact me, any one of the Administrators to the forums, or, please contact the City Police direct at (845) 451-4000. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help out!
  16. THANK YOU!!!!! To everyone who has replied, or offered supplies. I spoke with someone at the City this morning, and we believe/hope that enough supplies have been gathered. Again, thank you to everyone!!!
  17. How many times though, is a Battalion vehicle in FDNY running at 'higher speeds' versus places slightly more rural?
  18. Jim, someone recommended that on Facebook, and a member of the CPPD replied:
  19. Dan, thank you, that was what I had meant, as I can see you understood. The NYSP birds are set up depending on what their intended function of the mission is. If to be a medivac, yes, they still have hoists attached, but the swivel mount to attach the backboards inside of the compartment would interfere with rescue operations, therefore, they are either in 'Rescue' mode, or 'Medivac Transport Mode', if transporting injured victims. If it be just a case of removal of uninjured victims, then I can see the NYSP Aviation Unit being fully capable of such a feat. I know in the past, helicopters such as this get requested through Regional Medivac, however, if it is just for recon, or removal, does the request still go through Regional, or can a direct request be made to NYSP?
  20. ASTM D 4956 While I am sure that the ghost lettering used does conform to many, if not all of the legal requirements, or 'recommendations', as people have said before, are we trying to sneak up on incidents? Why hide who we are? I thought most departments out there usually want to announce who they are, and show off how much they spend to outfit their vehicles? Why now go to this more 'subtle' approach?
  21. Interesting how the NFPA requires certain things for 'warning', such as Chevrons, and certain number of lightheads per area, etc... for fire apparatus, yet some officials/agencies look to basically go directly against these recommendations for vehicles NOT 'required' to be outfitted such a way. Kind of seems like people are taking steps backwards in the safety aspect... And yes, as some have posted, you can have Chevrons in Ghost Lettering, but come on, do you think that would fly on a first due fire apparatus? So then why do it on something else that will see action on incident scenes?? http://www.nfpa.org/aboutthecodes/AboutTheCodes.asp?DocNum=1901&cookie_test=1
  22. And if you had read the postings BEFORE the one you refer to, the discussion SPECIFIC about Ghost Lettering, it's applications etc... was moved to a separate thread, NOT deleted. Read before posting, you will appear much more intelligent.
  23. We have at least one NYSP Lifeguard Unit down here out of Stewart Air Base (LG 17 or 18), and, whenever we require a helicopter rescue (aside from standard medivac function) in our area, it requires 2 choppers, one to remove victims, the other for all other associated functions. One chopper is set up as the 'rescue' chopper, for removal of the victim, the other is set up to package and txp the victim.
