  1. Just like E-Junk, HME and KME = Have/Keep Mechanics Employed, etc.... They all have nick-names...
  2. So at what time were the additional dive teams requested, AND, when did they call out responding? If so, were the called in an "emergency response" mode, versus called as a recovery team? Even if they were a 'backup' (as a FASTeam would), compare the times, and are they acceptable? I do not know much about this incident, or any units involved, I am going on what the news outlets, and here are reporting, I am just throwing out some food for thought.
  3. What I meant more was, the SAME things get whined about every year, people feel the need to start new threads, and beat the same, skeleton of a horse (been dead so long)...
  4. How many times do we need to discuss the same topic? Did anyone even bother to search and see how previous discussions of this same topic went??
  5. My question is, "When is a firefighter ever off-duty?" Granted, if enjoying some adult beverages, or other such circumstances, yes, but in general, ever? If I ever (personally) ran into someone who refused to aid someone because they were "off the clock", I would be extremely perturbed, saddened, and be sure to express my disgust. Thankfully, I have never yet met anyone like that.
  6. Gotta love 'Airplane!'
  7. Weren't most early ambulance companies run by undertakers/funeral homes? Monopoly?
  8. Same difference!! Compared to where he COMES from...
  9. Me too! Kingston is just a hop, skip and a jump away!!!
  10. **groans** Too many April Fool's Day "articles" on many many many websites that report news etc... SOME might believe in this junk.
  11. Strong work to all the peeps in Yonkers! Thanks for the pics, always nice to give us a different perspective on a situation not often encountered. This kind of setup would be an EXCELLENT extrication drill!!
  12. Congratulations to the DC HazMat Team, who, for the 2nd year in a row, won the NYS HazMat Challenge held at Montour Falls, NY! Please see the attached .pdf for the entire article! Volunteers are HazMat Champs 2 years in a row.pdf
  13. Kudos to the EPD in capturing those scumbags!!!!
  14. Avoid STL. Plain and simple. Go to elightbars.org and SEARCH for them. You will find an overwhelming amount of replies already. Don't start another thread about it though, there are plenty out there already.
  15. Agreed, a sad day for that automobile. Was there actual entrapment? They said there was a total of what, 5 patients, and seemed to get the one person out rather fast.
  16. I have an Antenex NMO trunk-lip mount w/cable that I purchased but decided on another installation method. You would need to purchase the correct antenna to attach, but it is your for what I paid for it. Use a dab of clear silicone on the suction cups, and problem solved! Not a permanent mount, but if/when you want to move/remove it, you can peel it right off!
  17. That is how Ghost-Lettering would react, if the black reflective were on a Black vehicle (therefore MAKING it ghost-ed). Here is an install that hv911 did for the Village of Wappingers Falls PD last year: http://www.hudsonvalleyemergency.com/car_10.html
  18. There were complaints lodged about "bashing" of said organization. Matter is currently under review. We are trying to keep all conversation here fair and balanced. We do not permit 'bashing' and organization, and yet I am sure this will bring cries of 'censorship' from the membership as usual. Can't have it both ways. If we leave it, we're "permitting bashing", when we take it down, we get people whining about "censorship".
  19. An interesting take for those mathematically and musically inclined!!! http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/249009/165/Web-Video-of-the-Day-Pi-set-to-music Would also like to extend a Happy Birthday to my friend, and fellow member, mbendel36!!
  20. George, I appreciate you putting your 2 cents in, here's your change:
  21. Hahaha, I am glad I am not the only one who notices this happening alllllll the time...
  22. In a simple answer, no. We are not on par with places like LA for swiftwater rescue. How often is it seen the LAFD plucking someone out of a swollen spillway via ropeline, or LAFD helicopter? Often enough... and that is usually just from flash floods, or some idiot who gets themselves into a predicament for being stupid. That is NOTHING as compared to a tsunami... Not saying there are not entities around the area that couldn't perform these tasks, but the sheer force and magnitude of destructiveness of a tsunami would overwhelm any amount of trained personnel in this area. The "minor/moderate" flooding from rainstorms this past week had area crews taxed for a while just pumping out basements, not imagine all of that magnified by THOUSANDS as water carries vehicles, houses, communities, and most importantly, people, away with it. Still think the Northeast is prepared? And let's not even get into the Fed response to Katrina, that puts FULL faith into that response, for a HURRICANE that they SAW and KNEW were coming!!!!! Tsunami's don't always get seen approaching, sometimes, not until they hit the shallows, and the 'wave' becomes noticeable.
