Thoughts? Ambulance driver cited Original Story:

Anyone own a Phenix Leather helmet? I just ordered a TL2 after I saw it at the LI fire expo last month and was wondering if anyone one here has one? I have a Sam Houston that my Mother bought me a few years ago which I'm retiring ( personal reasons) and chose the TL2 to replace it.

I was debating on getting a pre impact 5a but there were none on ebay, and the fact that I can mold the tl2 was a big selling point as well

I thought this was interesting, I know all of us who have and still do work in the medical field ( whether EMS or in the hospital) can relate to this. It's an online article ( there was also an article in this month's copy or readers digest with 35 other "secrets") with quotes from various Paramedics/ RN's/ Dr's about how they feel in regards to people calling 911. http://www.rd.com/li...icle175023.html http://www.rd.com/your-america-inspiring-people-and-stories/35-more-secrets-the-er-staff-wont-tell-you/article175030.html ( the other 35)

Yes, unless it is on another call already ( in which case ladder 10 will take its place).

It may have been a good stop but that is most likely because of proper training of a few, and not sufficient manpower at the beginning of the fire ( when it matters). If my house was on fire I wouldn't want to wait 10 minutes for 3 departments to assemble meanwhile everything I owned burned. Just because it was the middle of the day isn't an excuse, you're either a well staffed department or you're not and if you claim to be that means you can fight a fire at anytime of day no matter what. While I love being a volunteer firefighter I don't want to watch my house burn to the ground, or be one of those first in firefighters knowing that I have no back up outside whatsoever.

Once you have your EMT card call the number on the FDNY website and give them your Cert # and your SSN and your address. When I called ( April 08) they sent me a letter to go for my physical agility in June ( I deferred one month to July). Once done with that I got another letter/ packet with paperwork to fillout and telling me to go to 9 metrotech for my background ( this also serves somewhat as an interview with your investigator). A few weeks following that I got another letter to go for my Psych exam. After the Psych exam I got put on hold since a civil service list came out and being a civilian you get deferred until they are done with that. All in all I got called in May of 09 to go for my medical exam at 9 Metrotech. Then in July 09 I got called and offered the job. Some people get hired quicker some take a while it all depends on whats going on with the department at the time. The Academy is much more mentally challenging than it is physically. Your first two weeks are basically a straight refresher immediately followed by a state exam. After you pass that you get split into a platoon and every week you do something different until you graduate ( 1 week Hazmat, 1 week Evoc, 1 week Scenarios).

Does anyone know what the salary for boston ems emts and paramedics currently is?

75B1 is being replaced

I wouldn't mind the extra space. The Haztac/ Rescue medics buses are huge so as long as they're not any bigger than that I'm fine with the idea.

"The Lake Mohegan Fire District has proudly taken delivery of a new chief's car designated as Car 2263. This 2009 Ford Expedition was purchased to replace the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban chief's car, which has currently been running as Car 2263. The new vehicle will be designated to 2nd Asst. Chief Adam Cerrato and will run through his term of Chief for the next 6 years. This new chief's car was designed by Chief Cerrato with numerous new safety features in mind. The new Ford Expedition has new features including a remote control Command Light spotlight that has been mounted above the roof lightbar to add additional lighting to scenes. With new safety features evolving, this vehicle is also the first chief's car in the Mohegan FD fleet to have red reflective striping in the shape of a trapezoid on the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle also has more defined warning lights in the front grill and also more lights added in rear of the vehicle, as compared to the other chief's cars. The new vehicle also has a flashlight and a set of irons (halligan and flat-head axe) mounted in the rear truck area inside a rear cargo cage, that also has LED work lights installed in the inside of the trunk hatch. The standard center console has been replaced with a radio console to hold all the radios that will be needed. Specialty Warning Systems in Danbury, Ct was awarded the contract to put the lettering and markings plus install the lights in this new vehicle and equipment" A Video of the Lights: The Command Light In Action: The Reflective Side Striping:

So I finally got the call today after a year of waiting that I got the job with FDNY EMS. I start the Academy on July 27th. I was just wondering if anyone had any pointers or anything specific I should focus on. I've worked for a few companies, and I also volly in two VAC's so I have an idea of what my weak points are and I'm going to study up more on them and also do more practical scenarios with my fellow vac members. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!
