  1. This was sent to us by our brothers out west. Real class acts!
  2. If you wish to make a donation on behalf of Lenny the Joyner family has requested they be sent here : Mountain Rescue Aspen 630 West Main Street Aspen, CO 81611
  3. The original post has been updated with funeral details.
  4. Funeral details are as follows: A wake will take place on Wed Aug 1st between 3pm and 7pm at Beechers Funeral Home which is located at 418 Bedford Rd, Pleasantville, NY. The funeral mass will be Thursday Aug 2nd at St Michael's Church which is located at W 100th st, and Amsterdam Ave, NY NY at 11am. As we are all aware the body of FDNY Paramedic and Emtbravo contributor NY10570 Leonard Joyner has been found. The FDNY as well as the emergency services community has a whole has lost an excellent paramedic, friend, and overall great human being. RIP Brother. http://www.lohud.com...|text|Frontpage
  5. That is the best way to go about it. Whenever I have a patient who wants to RMA I go to great lengths to explain to them that only so much can be done in the field. As mentioned though it's going to come down to the PCR, although I'm sure the two medics are already sitting on the couch :\
  6. I believe all fully career.
  7. No, that was on route 9 and is a completely different bar. The Firehouse Grille was / will be once again on Welcher Ave and Washington Street in Peekskill. Sorry I don't drive on that street every single day? There wasn't a thread, and the last thread about the subject is archived. I know for a fact there are people who don't live in Peekskill, or drive around Peekskill often at all that would like to know the info so I figured I'd post a topic
  8. Saw a banner on the Firehouse Grille building the other day saying that they were reopening this summer. I don't know any other details as to whether it will be the same owner, menu, etc.
  9. Taken from http://www.emtlife.com/showthread.php?t=10249 Since I took it 4 years ago, however it was very easy as I remember : A stairmaster: 59 steps/second with a 40 lb weightd vest Lifting with your arms: you basically have to pull a stationary chain and create enough force with your arms 3 times Pushing some sort of bike wheel "ergonometer" a certain number of revolutions while lasting for 2 minutes Lifting with your legs: same thing as the arm lift but they make you change your form to involve your legs
  10. Actually zombies are more appropriate in this scenario. So here's to the zombie apocalpyse boys!
  11. FDNY ALS/BLS crews deliver baby in the back of a NYC taxi ,I believe the Father NOT the BLS is filming.
  12. United Ems Workers is a union that formed last year aimed at bringing together EMS around the country much like the IAFF. FDNY's EMS union ( local 2507) has been actively involved in this as well as in Washington trying to move EMS from the DOT to the DHS. You can check them out on facebook. The United EMS workers fall under AFSCME which is the Parent union. http://uemsw.org/
  13. TMC

So I had to call 911 to report a driver going the wrong way on 9A this evening who almost hit me. Talked to the dispatcher at TMC who was very informative, and helpful, oh and guess what.....it was a Woman.
  14. Oh god I remember watching this as a kid in tthe 90s....
  15. I feel like this video is appropriate...
  16. Pretty much the answer to all questions such as these if you still have not gotten one and are concerned it is to call DCAS haha. FDNY does not establish lists of any sort, the exam is done by DCAS and a list is put together by them as well. The FDNY is only involved once they call you from the list to start the hiring process. If you haven't gotten a list # and other people have, check your mail, if you're still concerned call DCAS and see what's up, it's not unheard of for them to make mistakes. Best of luck brother.
  17. Just fyi the MOS has a broken leg as a result of last night.
  18. the 45 medics I believe are supplemented by the westchester ems ALS units, depending on their availability at the time. A few people on here work for WEMS as medics and could probably answer better then me though.
  19. Magnus Rex AKA The Dark Knight Rises
  20. I hope the MOS are all okay and wish them a speedy recovery. This type of thing can happen to any one of us, I can only speculate as to what happened but we all need to remember we can't help anyone if we don't make it to a scene. I've seen POV's fly by me at breakneck speeds before ( I am not saying that these MOS were doing this, just making an observation), I just wish we would all relax and get there safely so we can actually help each other. Please remember everyone at the end of the day " Everyone Goes Home'.
  21. I believe it gets auctioned when it's time is done. Paramedics from the Dignitary Protection Unit of FDNY staff 001 and 002. 001 and 002 contain safety features to protect( lets just say it starts at being bullet proof) other than that I doubt FDNY would want that information released haha. The following is copied verbatim from this topic on the nycfire.net forums, I attached a link referencing the thread. "There were two dedicated DPU units in the city. Ambulance 001 and 002. 001 being for the president and 2 for everyone else. However they do use standard buses when needed. For the most part you will get two FDNY Medics who are DPU trained. During the UN GA you sometimes will get EMS officers riding with a Medic." http://nycfire.net/forums/index.php?topic=1265.0
  22. As per the ops guide we need to carry our APR's with us at all times, even in the crew compartment. The reasoning is that if we respond to any sort of explosion ( bus, train, building, etc) we would have our APRS in our reach prior to having to get out and breathe what potentially could be a CBRN attack. While you may think our turnout gear is " ridiculous " or " self serving" remember that NYC is the number one terrorist target in the WORLD, and every borough is different then another. I have had glass from a fire fall on me from 3 blocks away before, and I was happy I was wearing my gear at the time.
