Congrats to Commissioner Straub! He is tasked with administrating the PD and FD at the most cost effective, efficient, productive means for the tax payers. He clearly understands the benefits of the 24/72 FD schedule and the 12 hr PD shifts. It's encouraging to see a politically appointed Commissioner that does NOT bow to the pressures of the political majority when he believes in something. Even if it happens to make the union happy.

35: No more BEER in the firehouses. Part of "proving" yourself in the old days was how much smoke you could "eat" and how well you held your liquor.

It's stuff like this that makes our job so "special." This guy lived on the third floor and for some reason decided to climbed down to the second floor inside the walls. Its last Saturday about 3:30 am. The PD was already there when L-2 arrived. The 2nd floor tenant posted it on youtube.

And to add further, Ladder #3 was repaired at Nichols in Hyde Park and placed in service at 3rd St. The old TL-4 (Mack) is equiped and usable if needed as a spare. L-2 is now up at Nichols getting worked on. Things are getting done! It's too bad that you invest alot of taxpayer money in a piece of equipment (TL-1) and the product keeps malfunctioning.

Does Transcare have a base in Putnam County? Where is their nearest garage? Where will they be working out of? Fly cars? #Ambulances, combination? ALS & BLS units for 911 jobs? Anyone have any info???

Maybe some of the scrap money could have been used to pay for and install an escape ladder on the boom of the Seagrave TL.

If I remember correctly, it was an exit door on the lower level facing the Byram river that was LOCKED and prevented escape.

If there's any surplus, send it to MV.

Of the firehouses that do have weights and exercise equipment, are members encouraged to use the equipment while ON DUTY?? Do any Depts prohibit use while ON DUTY??

A couple of points for members coming into the city on M/A: 1st, if you're relocating to a firehouse and responding with lights and siren, you're in violation of the V&T laws unless the EMERGENCY is at the firehouse. It should probably take 25 minutes in normal traffic flow to relocate from Greenville or Fairview. 2nd, as stated by a wise member above, members on duty don't have a choice, but members OFF DUTY do! Is a picture starting to form???
