  1. First line is very important. Usually 1st and 2nd due will place 1st line. 3rd due engine will then stretch the second line.
  2. I totally agree with the not being accepted remark. This sounds like a bitter man who possibly at one time or another, tried to get onto the job and was rejected. He now harbors bad feelings toward the fire service, and now decided to put his efforts to writing this story. And what a very small effort it was. He simply listed one incident after another, which any person capable of writing can do. As was said during the Black Sunday Trial..."It takes a particular type of person to comment on procedures that they do not understand, nor do they have the bravery to do." This person is a very cowardly person who hides behind a pen.
  3. No they wont learn. It was just some poor shlep of a man. Nobody important or special to care about. They wont do anything until its a big time polition, or some celebrity or high profile person in the community. Then everyone will suddenly care about closing the firehouses.
  4. I work in the FDNY which as tru rescue rigs. I feel the rescue pumper isnt a bad thing. It can never hurt to have another set up pumps at a job.
  5. Oh my God!!!! That Ardsley engine has to be the ugliest rig i have ever seen!! Who made that?
  6. When does this new rig go into service?
  7. We got a good one a few weeks ago. "FMC STS SMELL SMOKE, UNK LOC" We turn the corner and it is blowing out 3 windows. No second source at all.
  8. Yeah...Now Mayor Mike is going to close houses and layoff some of the brothers.
  9. I wish Straub would become the comish of the FDNY! It would be nice to actually have someone who would look out for us.
  10. If a job comes in at the 13th hour or the 23rd hour and you were tired, once the call comes in for that job, you are more awake and alert then ever. Working 24hr shifts I think is better. Straights can be pretty tough. I know that NRFD also does 24hr shifts, and I think Yonkers does as well, but I am not totally sure about that.
  11. Nothing is too buffy for this site!!! Great job by 75!
  12. Some sharper lines to make it look more aggresive would be nice . It looks too much like a Toyota Camry from the side.
  13. Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.
  14. Wishing a speedy recovery. Stay safe brother.
  15. God Bless you, your family and the YFD. May you rest in peace brother.
  16. I once saw them stretch a line and put out a dumpster fire.
  17. Does anyone have the run down for that job? That would be amazing!
  18. I agree, its good that they are getting a new house, but I like the old brick firehouse look better. I hope we never get a new firehouse!
  19. I was detailed to 23 truck a few days after the fire. We went back there to try to salvage some stuff and the place was a wreck. From what they told me, the reason they were going to an outside contractor was b/c the wooden floor joists were badly burned and that buildings dosent do that type of work. I dont know how true that is.
  20. Last I heard, the city was putting out bids for the work. I am sure they are not in any rush to fix the house. But I am sure if it was a police station they would have had it all fixed and everyone moved back in.
  21. LA times is confirming that he is dead.
  22. I live right off of Bronx River Road near the Mt. Vernon West station. That area of Yonkers has a ton of nice co-ops for sale.
  23. JBE yeah I was aware of the reasons we sometimes get sent to a car accident and the tow trucks and ems and esu are already there and sometimes already taking up. Its the fact that we at times are responding in blind. We had a few calls this 24 were the ticket said pretty much nothing but the address. Then we would get some more information on the way. When we are responding to something blind we dont know if it is a fire, gas, or something else minor. So when responding to what turns out to be an ordor of gas and we get into an accident, the first thing that will be said to us is "Why were you responding to an odor of gas like you were going to a fire?"
