I don't understand why this "Incident Alert" has been posted (copied) here without any photos, or follow up. I'm very interested in any and all fires in that area and was hoping when I saw this incident here in the "Forums" section, that there would be something said about it. Are we just posting the same thing in different sections to fill up the pages? Someone must have some comments on this incident or some photos, I mean after all, that is what I want from this site.

My guess is it's all the negativity that goes on here, as a matter of fact my gut tells me to shut up and not even post this. Seems that no matter what is said here someone puts a spin on it that its wrong or a waste of time or money or should be done differently, it's just not worth all the negativity to start a conversation here and for that I feel bad, I always enjoyed this site and still check it several times a day just to find out there is nothing new. That's just my two cents, but I'm sure someone will say I'm wrong.

So anyone can be a chief in NY?
-
How can people out of state order these shirts? Is there an address we can send a check or cash to?
-
I haven't lived in that area in over 25 years my guess would have been closer to an hour by ground, If it is 20 Mins like you say, I agree with you.
-
Maybe the injuries required the victim be taken to a trauma center and I don't believe the hospital in Peekskill is a trauma center. Med flight would be much faster to Westchester Medical then ground transport I would imagine. .

I always heard, the FDNY had open cabs to be able to look up to find the fire in tall buildings and most other departments in lower NY state just followed suit.
-
I agree with this, my opinion is the City of Peekskill Fire Department has some great people and great resources, that just aren't being used efficiently. The city isn't very large square miles wise, they have 4 pumpers, 1 rescue pumper and a ladder. I think 24 or 25 career firefighters and a large volunteer squad. The 3 Chiefs are elected and are only in office 3 years. This doesn't give the chief much time to make any changes and I'm not really sure what power he has to do so. I think Peekskill Fire Department would benefit from a full time fire chief. This position would be a liaison between the city fathers and the fire department.

I'll say it again, Peekskill is a ticking time bomb.

Peekskill is a ticking time bomb

I want to thank the judges I'm excited for this victory!

OMG has Smokey seen the light, he just said "PEOPLE" refering to all firefighters, not just volunteers....I caught that Smokey, see I am a boy genius, just like you said I was. You better watch out the union doesn't see you calling volunteers "People"
-
Should we assume that no Career firefighter has ever been out very late drinking on his night off and came to work early the next day with pleanty of alcohol left in his syatem? And when that happens, do his career brothers report him, or do they just cover for their union brother? Why when a firefighter does something wrong can we just say he was a firefighter? I will NEVER understand the hate some career firfighters have for Volunteers. What this guy did is bad for the fire service in general.

We were neighbors of the Bristol Family growing up, I remember kevin when he was just a little squirt. I remember him as a kid ridding in Peekskill's engine 131 as it carried his father Owen to his final resting place. I have so many good memories of the Bristol family. It's a sad day for the Bristol Family, the Peekskill Fire Dept. and the world in general. Rest in Peace Brother.

I think we could flow around 750-1000 GPM, how long we could flow it would depend on arriving units and their capacity. We used this system to make an initial attack and or a rescue, When copious amounts of water is needed portable tanks would be set up and a tanker shuttle would be activated. When I was there (18 years ago) our first due attack pumper carried 1250 gallons, the second and third had 1000 each, so pretty quickly we could have up to 3200 gallons to mount an attack and or make a rescue. The nice feature with the clappered siamese is the ability to disconnect a unit without disrupting the flow.
-
In NH we used a water supply system called the "Rural Hitch". The first due attack engine lays a 4" supply line with a clappered siamese at the end of the driveway. The second due hooks into the siamese with a short length of 4". On the other side of the siamese the second due operator lays out a long length of 4" with a second siamese on the far end. The third dues hooks into the last siamese and duplicates what the second due engine did with another length of 4" with a siamese at the end. This can be repeated again and again as engines arrive. When the second due engine has pumped off its water, the third due increases his pressure. Because of the clappered siamese, the second due can now disconnect and head to the water supply, refill and then get back in line. The next full engine can hook into the open spot. This system requires good radio communication between pump operators, but it works very well when everyone involved is well trained. I should also say the in that area of NH most pumpers carried 1000 gallons or more of water. Just my two cents on water supply where there are no hydrants
-
My guess is the increase is due to budget cuts, trying to do too much with too few people and not being able to keep up training requirements. I would like to know how many departments are using less training hours now then 10 years ago. Too many Town/city/county/ state politicians who just see #s on a paper and have no idea at all what firefighters actually do.

We don't need "Festivus" to air grievances on this site

In many towns around the country the fire house was and still is a meeting place. Dances and other town functions were held there. The office of president for the company and its board members would handle the social side of things and the line officers are in charge of the firematic side of things. I know this is so hard for some career firefighter who to them being a firefighter is JUST their job, but to thousands of fire fighters around the country being a member of a fire company is a lot more.

Argue, fight and disagree, as we so often due, but this is what it's all about, this is why we do what we do. Great Job!
-
When I was a FF in Peekskill, we could usually tell by the first due drivers tone of voice how bad the situation was. When I was in NH the first due engine gave a windshield size up usually based on 3 sides, then dispatch repeated the report. A second report would usually be given when the officer got out and did a more in depth investigation into the situation and conditions. This happened every time, it was like second nature there. Many times mutual aid departments would stat to don turnout gear and mount up based on the size up and in anticipation of 1st or 2nd alarm.
-
In Westchester, are fire levels pre programmed? If an incident commander requests a first alarm or a second alarm, does dispatch automatically know what and who to dispatch or does the IC ask for the apparatus and crews individually? Like if a IC requests a second alarm on the south side of Peekskill, does dispatch automatically send Buchanan, Montrose, Verplank to the scene, and have Continental village and Mohegan cover the city or does the Chief have to figure out what he wants?

I was in Gilford next town over from Laconia. Gilford Fire Rescue is a very well trained, well prepared fire department. I learned so much there.
