  1. ALS = Ain't Liftin' $hit BLS = Be Liftin' $hit
  2. In the very first episode, they opened with "Under Pressure." Then, from the second episode on, they used "C'mon C'mon."
  3. Sorry buddy, but the facts speak for themselves. Major Incident Homicides involving automatic assault weapons have increased exponentially since the September 13, 2004 expiration of the federal law codified within 18 USC Chapter 44 which banned weapons such as the TEC-9, AK-47, AR-15, "Street Sweeper," "Striker 12" and AR-70, just to name a few. Now, since you're obviously pursuing a law enforcement career (as I am), tell me just what the heck does anyone need with a weapon called the "Street Sweeper?" You just might be faced with a weapon such as this at some point in your career, and I am willing to bet my next paycheck that if the time comes when you're staring one of these down, you won't be saying something like "if more law-abiding people could carry then maybe this guy wouldn't be brandishing a Street Sweeper in my face." And as far as it being better to "have it and not need it than to need it and not have it," that's rather short-sighted; you're forgetting about training and insight. Just because you may be allowed to have a weapon doesn't necessarily mean that you should have one. Firearms are analogous to alcohol: just because you're over the age of 21 doesn't necessarily mean that you have achieved a healthy respect for alcohol and doesn't necessarily mean that you should engage in alcoholic consumption; therefore, just because you can carry doesn't necessarily mean that you should. Nine times out of ten, it's the yahoo who pulls out his weapon without thinking who gets popped in the street.
  4. These shootings all have direct ties to 2004 when Bush decided to let the ban on assault weapons expire. Pretty much every single major shooting since that time has involved - in some way, shape, or form - firearms that, as far as I am concerned, have no place in society except for maybe the Army. Everyone jumped on Obama for his views on gun control, and in light of the events 2 weeks ago in Oakland, 2 days ago in Binghamton, and yesterday in Pittsburgh, can anyone really blame him for wanting to curtail access to firearms? As far as the instant topic, I don't believe that the presence of ESU/SWAT would have prevented any deaths, unfortunately.
  5. It's nothing more than a marketing gimmick to get you to purchase Shell branded gasoline, which is on average about a nickel per gallon more expensive than the rest of the brands. The long and short of it is that gasoline is gasoline, and anything with extra "additives" might actually do more harm to your engine than good.
  6. Race does not belong in our line of work. Civil Service Exams exist for one reason: to find the most qualified individual(s) for a particular job. End of story. If I am passed over for someone of a different race who scored lower, or if I am picked over someone of a different race who scored higher, shame on the hiring department.
  7. Hey, at least you guys have 93.3 MMR and 94.1 YSP; those are real rock stations as opposed to the ones we have in NYC. With the exception of Q-104.3, which is beginning to grate on my nerves since it's rather obvious that they have a small catalogue (I mean seriously, in the universe of classic rock songs, it is possible to go more than one day without hearing Stairway to Heaven), NYC doesn't have any real bona-fide rock stations anymore. It's either faux-rock (95.5, the new 92.3, 101.9), techno (87.7, 103.5), top 40 (100.3, 102.7) or Radio Air Pollution (everyone else).
  8. Long Live K-Rock, the Last Bastion of Rock Music in the NYC Area!
  9. It clearly says before the bridge that there is a 10'9" clearance. Any reasonable person could conclude that the height of the car carrier plus the height of the vehicles being carried exceeds 10 feet, 9 inches. Obviously, he didn't have that much speed behind him due to the contours of the road, so it appears that the driver saw the sign and chose to try his luck anyway. I hope that, aside from being humiliated a bit, he also received a summons for careless driving.
  10. It's a nice rig, but when it comes to P&L trucks, the looks of the rig are about the only things going for them. My squad has 2 twin 2006 Ford E-450/PL Medallions that have spent a majority of the last 2 1/2 years OOS for stupid issues that are a result of P&L's poor craftsmanship. Expect to have problems with the electrical system as well as the A/C for the box, just to name the two biggest headaches that we have with ours.
  11. Will the tactics necessary to subdue chimpanzees be on the written exam? lol
  12. I saw it last year at the NJ FF Convention in Wildwood. It's strictly a demo piece to show the two types of cabs that they offer; it's not designed to be a front line piece.
  13. This is what you get when you have an out-of-touch "mayor" who just so happens to have a Napoleonic complex and too much money for his own good. (Compounding that, Scopetta is inept and Ray Ray is just another politician, but that's another story.) Maybe instead of running for a rather unethical third term, he should donate to the city whatever money he has in his re-election fund. I mean, hey, he says that he's a philanthropist, right? Instead of cutting everything and taxing the everloving hell out of everyone except his rich friends, why doesn't he take some money out of that pot that he's been sitting on and help us all out?
  14. Check her finances; I bet her house is on the verge of foreclosure and that she owes people a ton of money. Why else would she bring a frivolous lawsuit? The FDNY doesn't keep blacks and latinos out, it just so happens that a majority of the people who apply for the test to take a job where you run into a burning building while everyone is running out are white. What a load of crap.
  15. Not MTA Cops. The Bridge and Tunnel Officers. You know, the toll takers with guns. You know, the peace officers who think they are police officers. You know, the people who tried to stop me on Lafayette Avenue (over by the Whitestone Bridge) as if their jurisdiction was magically extended by 2/3 of a mile.
  16. To me, AMTRAK cops aren't cops, just like the MTA Bridge and Tunnel people aren't cops; they're security guards with overinflated egos attached to the Glock on their hip. They're about half a step up from Kevin James in that new movie Paul Blart.
  17. That's ridiculous. If I lived in either one of those districts and my house burned to the ground, and I found out that it could have been saved had a proper mutual aid plan been in effect, I would own both of those fire departments, plain and simple. Just because Department A doesn't like Department B doesn't mean that they couldn't or shouldn't come together in an effort to protect the public. Neither one of those departments should be operational because no matter which way you slice it, their behavior is downright dangerous and it's going to get someone killed, whether it be a member of the service or a civilian.
  18. Thanks for the link, but I read real newspapers like the NY Times and the Wall Street Journal, not the Journal News. The guy plead guilty. What a shame. He could have had it dismissed had he gotten a good attorney. Then he could have taken the case and used it as a free speech issue in an effort to challenge the reasonableness of that particular section of the disorderly conduct statute. Or, he could have taken the case and used it as an example of the fact that maybe Mr. State Trooper should grow thicker skin.
  19. I have two words for this one when it gets to court: Case Dismissed. The kid may not be a genius, but there comes a point where the reasonableness of the application of a law reaches it's logical end. It's not like the kid exited his vehicle, jumped up and down, and ranted and raved on the side of the road, telling the Trooper where exactly he can go and what exactly he can do when he gets there. That, to me, would be more congruous with the disorderly conduct statute. Simply flipping someone off is not. Heck, in some eastern cultures, what we call "giving the finger" is actually a sign of outward respect.
  20. Exactly. My attitude is that it doesn't matter how many lights you have or what kind of lights you have; there is always at least one car per job that does not yield, either because they can't see, can't hear, or are just plain stupid. And as we all know, you can't fix stupid...
  21. OK, this is my take on the issue. Whatever the law says regarding what colors are acceptable and what placement is acceptable on a police vehicle is a moot point. That is to be determined by the Chief of Police. In the instant issue, the question was raised about what color is acceptable on a personally owned vehicle, specifically what the law allows in a rear-facing situation. I will agree that it appears that Section 375 of the VTL looks as if it were written by the guy who graduated last in his law school class, as it is very convoluted and ambiguous, however, we must all follow the letter of the law. As the first sentence states, "One or more red or combination red and white lights, or one white light which must be a revolving, rotating, flashing, oscillating or constantly moving light, may be affixed to an authorized emergency vehicle..." This, to me, means a police car, ambulance, or fire truck. So, that being said, my interpretation of the law is that red - anywhere on a vehicle that is not a designated emergency vehicle - is outside the scope of the law.
  22. I think if you're going to post things on here that have to do with a third party's actual or purported illness - like the case on one of the missing posts in which a local fire fighter was described as being an alcoholic, yet was not afforded the chance to either confirm or deny this speculation - then you should put your name on the post. Everyone here has a persona, just like a screen name on myspace or AIM; however, when person x says "Joe Smith is an alcoholic and had to go to rehab," you're in a very sticky place. Not only are we circumventing that good old HIPPA law that is cited here ad nauseum, we're dabbling in diagnosis, which we're not allowed to do. How do we know that Joe Smith wasn't simply diabetic with a constant hypoglycemic problem? You know, there's a reason why we're not allowed to cast off people as drunks in the field; ask yourself how many times someone's arrested for suspected DUI and then they wind up dead the next morning? Without conclusive breath or blood analysis, you can't rule anything in or out, so how does that give anyone the right to say that Joe Smith is an alcoholic? Whether or not someone has an alcohol problem is between them, their job, their union, their family, and their God, if they so choose to worship one. It's a private matter, and certainly not one for any loudmouth to air. So in short, if you're going to post trash like that, then post your name, too. At least that way, you'll show some semblance of manhood. And I'm sure I'm gonna get suspended or banned for this post and my other one, which as far as I'm concerned, wouldn't be a bad punishment.
  23. That is true, and I agree with everyone who has posted a response. But for instance, when a Chief is raked over the coals so-to-speak, simply because he's over 70 years old, that's crossing a line and could lend some credence to why Chiefs and Commissioners might not like the site. Just my 2 cents.
