  1. http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&...1&encType=1 Not sure which house. Maybe someone can point it out.
  2. This was my guess as well, but I like the radiator idea as well.
  3. A. I don't know about everybody else, but most of the patients I come in contact with think my volunteer crew is a paid crew. Most think we're crazy to volunteer but 99.8% of them appreciate the fact that we are as professional as we are. B. People do stupid things in every occupation. Do the people in the investment business feel Madoff is a black eye for their business?
  4. Is there a real need for BLS fylycars in a village of Sleepy Hollow's size?
  5. Read the tread about the deputy putting out the fire. I love cross training!
  6. Dan, Thanks for your personal account of your actions! I wish more of theae types of posts are made in the future.

  8. I'm sure injuries happen more often than they are reported to the media. So my question is, how are injuries reported? Yonkers, for example, had 5 injuries reported in the news at yesterdays fire. What is the criteria for "injuries"? Obviously something such as a broken arm counts, but does a cut finger get reported? Some reports will quote some chief as stating the injuries were minor. What is considered minor?
  9. So the last "combining services" topic had very good points concerning paid departments. But combining volunteer departments could be considered the greater priority. SO................... Leaving out "it will never happen" and "too many personalities", assume the following: -SOG's will be agreed to -One Chief, an number of assistants, and one governing body of the new department. SO........ How would you do the following: a. decide which departments to combine; b. decide which appartus stays, goes or gets added? c. decide which station stays, goes, do any get added? d. how alarms are answered, number of engines, ladders, etc. e. What problems/issues are satisfied by your prposal? Yes, may be pie in the sky, but progressive minds dream. Just have "fun" with this!
  10. That's a lot of faith you have in the other driver.
  11. Has the subject of making a regional fire service by combining the lower Westchester Departments ever been discussed? Namely Yonkers, Mt. Vernon, both Pelhams, New Rochelle, Eastchester, 3 Greenburghs, Scarsdale and White Plains. These are all paid dept's thus creating the greatest tax burden to their residents. It probably would turn out to be a great department, delivering the best service. This could be the easiest first step to saving money and providing excellent fire protection.
  12. If you're driving lights and siren, no matter what speed, I don't think you would be looking out for someone passing you. Too many what ifs for the second vehicle to pass the first one. Way too dangerouse for both vehicles.
  13. A Brooklyn jury found dexter bostic guilty of murdering PO Russel Timoshenko. They convicted him on all counts and he'll spend the rest of his life in prison with no possibility of parole.

  15. I actually was going to say this, more or less. Without the personalities it would seem it would be easier with volunteer departments to consolidate. Greenburgh as a whole would be a good area to start with. Merge the 6 Village fire departments and the three paid departments into two departments. But with less companies in each village area, do you run the risk of losing volunteers and thereby create another problem?
  16. John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG ) He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE ) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA ) After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA ) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO ) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN ) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA ) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY ) filled it with GAS (from Saudi Arabia ) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his Computer (Made In Malaysia ), John decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL ) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE ) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA ), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in AMERICA.
  17. I'm not looking to get into how much pay, seniority, etc. Home rule - may be a huge issue. Personalities, etc. who cares? I know these all play into the equation. BUT, Starting with an assumption, My assumption, for this conversation, that the fact that lower westchester is almost all paid departments, it would seem easier to start in lower Westchester to "regionalize". Let's just discuss if there really would be advantages and what they are. Or is smaller really better?
  18. Both replies - great points, but the tax burden response is something I didn't think about. But could the entire region benefit from a combined "regional" department?
  19. I have relatives in Stamford. They're documenting anything and everything with this whole mess. All documentation are kept away from their house. They hope nothing happens to them. They are scared!
  20. I'll second that! Excellent job by all!
  21. Bail out the Wall Street geniuses. Pay a pitcher $82 million to play a game, that the majority of the fans can't afford to see play live. Something is definately wrong. The whole system needs to change.
  22. How about set crews 24/7? Then only one person needs to call in.
