Actually, youre right partyrock that is the Home Depot. There is a lot either right behind or right next to the Home Depot that is going to be the home of the new station.

L39 demolition is to begin the beginning of '08 with a new EMS bat 27 completed sometime in 2010. On a similar note there's a new station 3 about to break ground soon and two new stations in the pipe for Manhattan.

Our paperwork in NYC doesn't really accommodate no patients found and the sheer number of PCRs generated for RMAs is a burden. Thankfully we have the beautiful new code 10-91. There was an incident (MVA, fire, stand-by, etc) but no patients. We also have good old 10-90 where EMS activation was unnecessary, misunderstanding, or just unfounded. For those wonderful calls when the patient says they didn't want an ambulance and have no complaints, but an over protective whoever called. If I had to generate paperwork on every call my all ready had to come by meal breaks would disappear.

I don't care what their rank is, so long as they want the job. Pleasantville has been lucky recently with guys who are really into the job.

2004 is the greatest choke of all time?? Yeah, losing three in a row to the team with the second best record in the Division and third best in all of baseball. The team that then went on to sweep in the world series. If you've gotta lose to someone, and as much as it actually causes me pain to admit this, the sox were not a bad team to lose to. Now that thats out of the way, I'm curious if you've heard about 1978. 14.5 games back at the half way point and they managed to chase down the sox finishing the season with 100 wins. This was the season that was decided by lil' Bucky Dent's 3 run blast over the Monster in the seventh (yeah, it was in Boston. It makes it so much more fun that way). That was only Bucky's 6th(maybe the 7th, but definately less than 10th) dinger of the season. By August the sox had taken 6 or 8 from the Yankees. In September and October the Yankees nailed the sox for 7 wins out of the final 8 meetings. Now that is a colossal collapse.

I know its been said all ready, but SLOW DOWN. If you kill someone because you were going to fast there is no defense. There is absolutely nothing you can say to justify your actions. I know its frustrating missing the accident or the big fire, but stop this crap. Its silly we're all adults here just stop doing this crap. I know people on this very board that drive like animals going to alarms. Read these stories and grow up.

I work with NYPD every day, and the vast majority are amazing stand-up guys. I've had them follow with patients cars to the hospital (could have just as easily had it towed), secure vehicles and then track down the patient at the hospital (could have just left the keys at the precinct), volunteer to go pick up kids from school so the parent didn't have to try and find a ride, the list goes on. At the same time I've personally been screwed over by a cop who didn't want to bother (ignored a possession and probably dui charge after a guy slammed into my bus). They are no different than any other agency. The majority are good guys and few are skells. The average patrol officer probably has it rougher than most thanks to everything grumpy posted, but most do the right thing even when they don't have to.

Can we please merge a few of these little police depts. Pleasantville has some great officers, but for fornication sake why is there a separate dept from Mt. Pleasant?? They only cover the village, yet they are the proud owners of a brand new motorcycle. As it is Mt. Pleasant covers half the town, and I have yet to hear a reason for this duplication.

Sadly, people only remember the things that stand out. Just like how it only rains when you have off or more crazy poopy happens on full moons, our brains remember things that we can link or stand out from the norm alot better and assign extra importance to them. Seeing someone tazered or lumped up stands out. The two dozen times you calmly arrest someone doesn't stand out. I missed the brutality show, but I believe I have seen those videos. The woman who was tazered for littering was definitely brutal...brutally funny. If I had seen that video the officer gave the woman many attempts to comply, then repeatedly ordered her out of the car. After she refused to exit the vehicle and resisted he attempts to force her from the car he repeatedly warned her, that he would tazer her if she would not exit the vehicle. If he hadn't zapped her he would have been a liar, and I am strongly against dishonesty. Personally I would rather get tazed then catch a few raps on the leg from a baton. The officer did her a service.

Thats a story ckroll, hopefully people will also see that a bird isn't necessary and a bus to the med center would be perfectly acceptable. Here's something I picked up new for after the birth. Anyone who gets an epidural (or spinal tap for that matter) even without complications has a high potential for severe headache, neck and back pain for up to 3 days after the event. Biggest flag is when supine there is no pain, but as soon as they sit up the pain starts and only gets worse. I had only been aware of this with complications from spinal taps.

There's a difference between a dangerous job and a dangerous location. Outside of the occasional violent drunk it is extremely rare for our patients to come after us. Even when the drunk does start swinging how often are they throwing quality swings that you can't see coming from a mile away? Every time I've been caught by one of these clowns I wasn't paying attention where I should have. Our environment is where we are exposing ourselves to risk. Operating on highways, at various hazardous incidents and just going to work everyday in a crap neighborhood. Take for example the gents down at Battalion 55 in south Bronx. Several of their members were chatting outside the station when gunfire erupted right in front of them. There was no anger towards EMS, but the average jackass slinging led in the Bronx isn't to concerned with collateral damage. To their credit before securing themselves inside their facility they managed to get the lone civilian casualty inside. Luckily everyone was ok and the civilian was stable. Would anyone on this forum have left that patient outside the front door or not gone back to work the next day? All emergency services workers take on a certain level of risk to help others and will continue to do. These risks have resulted in countless lives saved.

It will probably be significantly different from FDNY's HM1 as they operate differently. Someone may know more than me, but from what I have seen NYPD's hazmat is more an equipment hauler with the unit being staffed by ESU members that will already be on scene. FDNY's HM1 responds with its own dedicated crew. Since its an ESU unit I'm going to bet Floyd Bennett Field. Anyone hear anything about the Transit rescue being built bu Ferrara?
-
If it says NYC*EMS then its a 10+ year old board. FDNY boards and equipment are considered dept property and the dept allows agencies to use them because everyone has to work together without worrying about who owns what. There are a few cases of other agencies being caught storing FDNY boards and catching flak for it (the king of the heap was a private hospital with over 200 boards found in a locked storage room in Manhattan).
-
FDNY has more than enough boards and we're actually prohibited from using boards belonging to other agencies, so I'm willing to bet its not them. A few years ago while working for WEMS I actually found a PVAC board down at Lawrence (I'm pretty sure PVAC wasn't making a run down there). Some of it also falls to the agency. There's been a playland board sitting outside Jacobi for probably a week now that will eventually find its way to the dumpster if its not picked up.

All these things are true, but how does that explain why it takes an hour to be triaged as emergent, acute, non emergent. triage takes what, 5 minutes? The fact of the matter is the people on the other side of the counter seem to have been conditioned to think that if you really are sick you would have called an ambulance.

Excellent point ALS. In that vein, Pleasantville was well on its way to getting the PSS issued (Thanks Ferg), but thanks to some bad weather the 2nd half of training never happened.

If you are worried about spray and splatter protection then you need to be worried about real potential for exposure. Assuming all of your skin is intact your face is the only place for infection. You can stand in a knee deep tub of HIV infected blood, hose off and go about your life without a worry in the world. Yet a splatter of blood in the eye or mucosa membrane and you are at risk for contamination. Every agency requires pants yet every scene is crawling with people with no eye protection chewing gum.

So the efforts of all these people went to what? Is the home at least sold and the profits given to the family?

damn, I have almost the same story with my father at White Plains Hospital. I bring people to the ER who don't even need a doctor all the time, but I have to because they called for an ambulance. At most hospitals they are appropriately sent off to the waiting room, AFTER BEING TRIAGED. Abdominal pain or injury are not necessarily tickets straight to a bed in the ER. At times due to crowding patients are going to have to be seen in the hallway, as was my father. These are not desired situations, but they are necessary. What is unacceptable is waiting longer to be triaged because you came in by private means. Just as it is unacceptable to be treated faster just because you came by ambulance.

The 61st home run call was definitely one of the best of all time. And so much better than "An a-bomb from a-rod". Yeah Boston, you're in great shape. Went from 14 1/2 games up and are now just 4. Yeah, you guys are on cruise control right into 2nd place and may even miss the wild card. Now that would be hilarious. To all the Mets fans out there...you are now back where you belong, the second best team in NY.

It seems from that thread that the Rescue is holding up pretty well. Apparently the problems are relatively insignificant "every truck has their fare share of problems just as this one but they are small" and have been taken in stride. I also don't see any opposition. What thread were you reading?

yeah, but is that anything new?

2 times I've tried to find ICE once the phone was trashed and the other had no ICE contact. Luckily there was a "mom".

Thanks for that look at life on the front lines. The work you guys are doing and have done is nothing short of amazing and a true testament to your hard work and dedication. I only wish you guys could get more help, the help you deserve so we could bring that animal face to face with a few hard chargers in the back of a cave.

Don't forget this run for the pennant started before the break. Before the all star break they began to start lighting up taking 7 of 9 (I think).
