  1. Israel is far from a wealthy nation. They get about 3 billion a year from the US, half economic and half military. They pick up another few hundred million a year in contributions from charities around the world. If the aid drys up Israel goes bye bye. Regardless of wether or not you agree with Israel's policies concerning buffer zones, resettlement, and travel restrictions you can't knock their desire to stop terrorists from hurling rockets and mortars into their country. They abided by the cease fire even though the Palestinian government did little to stop the terrorists. We're leading two wars on foreign soil to stop terrorists that the in place government would not stop. How can we criticize them for doing the same thing? Did they provoke these attacks, thats an entirely different argument. You also cannot blame Israel for the attacks on America. Israel is a convenient rallying cry for extremist muslims. They hate us for who we are and what we stand for. If it wasn't for Israel they'd find another reason to come after us. I'll be honest, I don't care what happens over there. Israel has screwed around and flexed their muscle as much as they could for years. Many of their policies at one time or another served little purpose than to inflame the Palestinians. The Palestinian people celebrated 9/11 in the streets, so I have hard time mourning their loses. I will never celebrate in the death of innocent civilians, but I can very easily not care.
  2. Any officers hear any rumors about maybe the fed picking up this case? I know in the past when local courts couldn't get perps significant sentences the Fed has occasionally stepped in pushing civil rights violations and gotten additional time.
  3. Very true, but now you have a "chicken and the egg" problem. You need employees who care to get better pay and conditions but you can't get employees who care until you have better pay and conditions.
  4. Those degrees are optional and generally provide no real benefit over just getting certified. Between employer pressure against unions and the tendency of most people in EMS to see it as a temporary job rather than a career unions are a tough sell.
  5. It doesn't require anything more than a little basic training. If you're unemployed with no education see which career pops up. In 3 months you can have you can have your card and start shucking transports. Hell, even paramedic isn't a degree. Most PD and Fire jobs require college credits so people at least have to make the extra effort to get the job. All EMS requires is a card.
  6. This is slightly less productive than spitting into the wind. We had 20 years of excellent leadership from Reagan through Clinton. The country pulled through some hard times, had quite a few bumps in the road, but in the end we were headed towards the apex of a level of economic growth unseen since the civil war. In that time we had Democrats and Republicans in the White House and every few years control of the house and/or senate would change up. Bush stepped in with many of the same people his father selected for his own presidency and a few things didn't quite go his way. It took a few years after the first Bush left office before people realized how good he really was. Its been a couple years and Jimmy Carter is still seen as one of the worst Presidents ever. Who knows, maybe in a few years the public perception of Bush will improve too. For better or worse Obama is president for the next 4 years. In three years his performance and the performance of those around him will be evaluated and we'll see what happens.
  7. 10 guys, thats just ridiculous. Its good to see everyone came home in one piece. Good luck guys.
  8. Your revolution is over, Mr. Lebowski. Condolences. The bums lost. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski? The bums will always lose! How was your meeting, Mr. Lebowski? Okay. The old man told me to take any rug in the house. Everything else in this movie is half f-bombs.
  9. What happened, first two picks look like you guys had a good jump on this one?
  10. On January 7th 1996, Pleasantville Volunteer Firefighter Tom Dorr was brutally murdered in Grahm Hills Park while enroute to a winter storm standby. Tonight at 7pm we will be holding our annual vigil at the park entrance across from Pace University. The police have still not been able to make any arrests in the case so we meet every year in the hopes of keeping Tom's story in the media so that maybe someone will come forward. Until then we continue to remember Tom and hope for the best. I know every time someone tragically dies they suddenly become saints, but Tom really was one of those once in a life time great guys. How many people would take the time to feed the wild turkeys during a blizzard? He could always be counted on to help anyone who might need it. Please keep him in your thoughts.
  11. Sadly, we're still waiting for that big break. We were able to get the attention of the New DA after her election but as far as I know short of anyone coming forward with new information the hands of the investigators are tied.
  12. Nice, Back to School. I don't know. I can't figure women out. Today, they're... independent. They only think about themselves. Why, during sex, Vanessa - she used to scream out her own name! Oh, no, no. I never get physical. I just get upset. And when I get upset...HE gets physical. Are you FAT? When you go jogging, do you leave pot-holes? When you make love, do you have to give directions? At the zoo, do the elephants throw YOU peanuts? Do you look at a menu and say 'OK'? Mr. Melon, your wife was just showing us her Klimt. You too, huh? She's shown it to everybody.
  13. We train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write "f***" on their airplanes because it's obscene! If I say its safe to surf this beach Captain, then its safe to surf this beach. I mean I'm not afraid to surf this place, I'll surf this whole f****** place!
  14. easy eng265. relax. The point people are making is that something can always go wrong. Here you have two very poorly maintained structures compromised by fire and water damage. At some point you are going to have to go in and perform overhaul. A firefighter in Brooklyn was recently hospitalized after a collapse during overhaul. This is not to say you need another dept standing by to provide your FAST, so long a you have a few members filling that role.
  15. sounds like the editor of that paper has an axe to grind. The article even states that they don't know if it was unusual to have that many ff's out sick. And then for no reason they include the line about ff's claiming disability while filling for supervisors.
  16. Is there a similar box for other three north/south highways in the Bronx?
  17. Well, we'll not risk another frontal assault. That rabbit's dynamite Jesus did, sir. I was hopping along, minding my own business, all of a sudden, up he comes, cures me! One minute I'm a leper with a trade, next minute my livelihood's gone. Not so much as a by-your-leave! "You're cured, mate." Bloody do-gooder. My grandfather started me on the who's on first bit when I was kid, but nothing beats 7x13 = 28. Did you ever go to school stupid? Yeah, and I came out the same way.
  18. There are also oil based systems. My limited experience with your typical residential solar panels has them not being nearly as dangerous as these bulletins that keep coming out make them out to be. It'd be nice to see some detailed training that really covered all aspects of solar panels.
  19. As good super troopers is, we still have hours of Mel Brooks to get through... Stampeding cattle. That's not much of a crime. Through the Vatican? Kinkyyyy. Sign here. My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives. God darnit, Mr. Lamarr, you use your tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore. All right, we'll give some land to the ------- and the ------, but we DON'T WANT NO IRISH!
  20. Youngins don't know great movies What kind of plane is it? Oh, it's a big pretty white and red plane, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol. There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?
  21. Outside of some special catastrophe FDNY will respond to the scene of an incident, but only after the dispatcher contacts I believe the Chief on Duty and Operations Chief. There are incidents where FDNY was assigned in border areas due to wrong addresses where they operated with Westchester departments and a few cases of FDNY going mutual aid, but its not often.
  22. By putting a pump an the ladder you do not need need a nurse pumper just to supply the ladder if it's water is coming off a long stretch, hydrant, or drop tank. Unless you're on top of a kicking hydrant you will need a pump to supply your ladder. The debate becomes do you put the pump on the ladder where it takes up valuable space and adds weight or do you use one of the many pumpers that wind up scattered around the scene. Limited access scenes, water supply issues that require tanker shuttles or long stretches all make free engines harder to come by on scene and make putting a pump on the ladder a valuable addition.
  23. Way to work gents. Definitely had the deck stacked against you.
