http://www.radshield.com/ FDNY will soon be outfitting HM1 with several products from this company. One is a radiation/ballistic vest that can be worn with encapsulation. Another is a blanket that can either protect rescuers or isolate a contaminated patient.
-
Yep sage, thats the new level A or at the very least very similar. I don't know if any other vendors make a similar product. The radshield vest goes under the current PPE. The member I was talking to said the vest also provided IIIA ballistic protection, but the company website only shows that available in a shield form.

2 members initially transported. One yellow and one red tag. Both released from the hospital later that day. Officers really need to be re-educated as to what the different triage colors mean. On many occasions after assessing a patient I've had one of my officers transmit an entirely different story.

http://www.thebravest.com/FDNYNewsArchive/10/03/5g.htm Thank god she was there. Eng 79 was in a panic trying to figure out what the fire wouldn't turn off before she made an incredibly astute observation.

Isn't that why you guys have the hoist capability?

Whats the lag between the computer notification and calls arriving?

For the right reasons a trip to slave is warranted. For example, anyone in the North Bronx who says they don't care which hospital they go to between 6am and noon.

Way to go Bridgeport PD. Thank you.

The crap buildings and homes in the boogie down are absolutely head and shoulders above what was there 30 years ago. The borough isn't plagued with homelessness, heroin, crack, and violence that it was in the 70s and 80s.

New boats have been scaled back due to latest round of budget cuts.

By my math, thats about 150 tons of water on that roof. How much can these roofs typically handle?

In NYC an abdominal pain job is fairly low priority so during times of increased demand they will often get held or assigned units will get pulled for higher priority jobs. Even in the busiest times an abdominal pain rarely goes more than 20 minutes before a bus gets on scene. If the snow is too deep or a bus gets stuck, sanitation sends the nearest plow to clear the road or free the bus. In Pleasantville and Mt Pleasant DPW is also a phone call away to get help clearing a street. That Pittsburgh would accept "the snow is too deep" as an excuse to not get a bus on scene is sad. All that being said, poo happens. NYC has certainly had their well publicized snafus. Sadly in any system things happen, its not acceptable, and you do everything in your power to prevent it.

Next time you use a sled, if you wear a DOT helmet use it. Our helmets are not made for that type of protection. Not criticizing. I don't even wear a helmet when I snowmobile. Just something people don't often realize.

After 11 years as a volunteer in Westchester I could not tell you which depts operate with that company/district funding separation. I'm fairly savvy and involved and still can't tell, what are the chances the average citizen can? When you go out collecting as the company do you do so completely independent from the district? For example wearing or using district equipment? How about on district property?

Why is dinner an acceptable expense, but responsibly consumed alcohol unacceptable? If you're going to fund any social functions, then you might as well fund all of them. I wasn't criticizing volley FD's that pay for booze, just trying to point out the hypocrisy of getting on Buffalo firefighters for trying to do so.

stewart manor FD is within 5 minutes of 4 different fire departments. They're the poster child for the redundancy of the current system.
-
It shouldn't have much of an affect on income. The parade will still go on. A few less groups flying into town and renting hotels doesn't compare to the thousands who come to NYC for the the holiday.
-
because no volley FD pays for their members to drink, right? Parades, inspections, holiday parties, annual meetings, and even a few dept bars are the big ones.

Is it even possible to operate that pump panel while flowing water through the monitor off the drivers side?

After a few delays 343 is scheduled to arrive in NYC the first week in March. The expected in service date is some time in June assuming no major problems are found.

This is a "bread and butter" fire that these guys completely lost their stuff on. So many problems except manpower. Randolph Township is good for a couple of fires a year, so these guys should have some experience. What cares me most, is this is it if you need the fire dept in that community. This wasn't one or two knuckle heads screwing up, it was a total failure. Nearly everything error that has been identified on here can be traced to a lack of training. When volunteers feel like they're under attack for accountability, training, etc this is why. This incident highlights nearly every problem with the volunteer fire service. Now let me be clear, I am not saying this is how it is in any Westchester FD. This is just the fear people have when bringing up these issues. Career FD's screw up as well, however there you can fire the people responsible and replace them. If you fire your volunteers, they're increasingly hard to replace.

However you also now have to get up and down to that elevated platform for every connection or other job that falls to the MPO. They are safer in that you're out of the way of traffic however every trip up and down is potential for injury made worse by wet or icy conditions.
-
First off, I love the parades. They are not a waste of taxpayer funds as a large portion of the community turns out to these events. However few depts make real provisions for coverage. Most, while they limit the number of rigs leaving town fail to address staffing issues. If the chief is so off base with his questions then a quick cascade of responses showing the coverage will quick shut him up. Personally I enjoy shutting people up who spout off with misinformed accusations. attacking the person asking the question rather than the question leaves an impression that he's right and you are all just getting defensive.

There are so many great cop movies, but for chase scene I gotta disagree with you FFLieu. Bullitt. Steve McQueen's chase scene in that dark green mustang was the first of its kind and became the template for todays chase scenes.
