  1. Forget hummers. Porche makes cayanne with a chief package. I'll see if I can find the link again.
  2. sadly, everythign has a value...including human life. I'd actually be pretty curious to see the dollar figure placed on a FF's life when they figure this s#!t out.
  3. going back to the WMC bump..take it one wheel at a time and cross the dbl yelllow. Itsets the bus arockin, but its not nearly as jarring
  4. WOW, that was f-ing amazing ja3KFD!!! We're trying to get two new rigs in pleasantville maybe you can work some magic??
  5. Baahhhh who needs eric gross...JOE REYO is da' man
  6. We are all suppose to use plain english, but old habits die hard; especially when the 10 codes are just easier to say.
  7. while any layoffs to firefighters friggin blows, please be at least a little more responsible in your headlines. "Detroit Mayor Proposes 754 Layoffs for Firefighters" its actually 61ff's
  8. yeah, pleasntville is great if you like small end of the world type storms descending upon you in the middle of the parade.
  9. WAS, you made some great points. Fire Depts have alot more they could do and need to do to protect their members. But I believe ALS should be at the scene. If nothing else, then standing by free to respond to any call that comes in. Some are concerned about longer response times, but it is no different from ALS responding from a situation to which they were dispatched but not needed. I know a good BLS crew is more than capapble of handling any emergency that may arise at the fire scene, but every minute is crucial and there are things that only ALS can provide.
  10. Pleasntville FD June 3rd
  11. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> Excellent! Well informed and well written.
  12. nextel all ready makes some of the most indestructible phones out there. Check out the 300 series of phones. One was thrown out an 8th floor window and the didn't even hang up on the guy. First phones to ever go 6 months without a carpenter breaking one
  13. The 5" line being refered to here is a supply hose. Useless for suction, but unbeatable for moving big water
  14. I believe WCC offeres two classes per session over teh summer. The instructors are great, but due to the short time frame, there is alot of material to cover. From what I've gathered the WCC has an amazing pass rate for the state exam. If you need any contact info, pm me
  15. It is really going to suck trying to beat that to the next exit
  16. So depending on your income you get a portion of the $1,000, kind of like secondary education deductions
  17. active sonar is detectable. Most of the time under, they're only listenign with passive and unless that rock is talking they aren't gonna hear it
  18. Well said. =D> =D> Freelancing is one thing that we focus on preventing at the sceen. The levels of experience and trainning across the members of the dept. is too varied to trust that people will know what is the right and wrong thing to do at the fire. The best way to make sure everyone is on the same page is to have one person in charge...the IC
  19. From what I understand the dispatcher while being a raging c*%k about it did do his job and promptly dispatch the proper units. Thats also the reason why he only got the suspension. The punishable offense was his conduct with the caller. His job is to just relay information to the appropriate resources. Whule I agree he should get a boot up his a&& on the way out the door, you try firing a union guy for his attitude. As long as he does his job he's staying.
  20. Allegedly first in truck is suppose to have access to the front of the structure. Experience however would suggest that unless they're first out the door they'll probably end up stuck down the street
  21. maybe its just me, but I don't see how this tory made the paper. At teh start the article makes it sound liek she tried to take off and leave the kid or to cover something up. She handled herself very well getting aid for the kid, visiting him and then checking on the police report. The only issues here are a mistake in procedure and a clerical error. Its a great example of the media trying to manufacture a more intertesting story.
  22. Heard a rumor today Yonkers was getting ready to announce another testfor the summer. Any truth to this?
  23. I know of some groups that forbid wearing anything affiliated with that organization in bars...the one exception made is for parades. The issue isn't so much as what most people do the majority of the time. At every event I've been too I have yet too see some event worthy of scandal involving ff's and drinking. I think the issue is more about what if. All it takes is once bad incident to do alot of damage. Those two guys that started this thread, in my opinion, weren't doing anything deserving of all this attention. While it may be a bad idea its nothing to get all out of shape over. Whats important is to try and keep the stupid things we do on our own time from affecting our image as professionals.
  24. parade season is allways good for MANY MANY guys in uniform cruisin around sh*% canned. Drinking to excess is often an all too pervasive and accepted part of the volunteer fire service.
  25. five minutes...considering its a new system, I guess it could be worse. I nearly 4 minutes on hold the other day at an accident in Mt. Pleasant becuase I couldn't remember PD's number and had to go through 911.
