  1. I agree with you Bob. There is a certain amount of iniating done when joining any orginization, FD, PD, EMS or the Elks. If things are done in a certain manner it can't be considered hazing. If things are done in a sophmoric manner such a fraternity when people are hurt either physically or mentally it crosses the boundaries. I think we are becoming too Politically Correct and the only ones benifitting are the lawyers/
  2. Just two words come to mind: JOB SECURITY!
  3. It is with deep regret to announce the sudden passing of Firefighter Santo Giampapa of the Greenville Fire Dept. on June 2, 2006. Prior to his appointment to the Greenville Fire Dept., Firefighter Giampapa served with the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Dept. and the City of New Rochelle Fire Dept. Services are as follows: Viewing Wednesday June 7, 2006 First Baptist Church 56 South Broadway Tarrytown, N.Y. 10:00 AM-3:00 PM Funeral Service to follow. Members are requested in Class A uniform.
  4. Greenville FD was issued Dickey shorts two years ago. FF and Capts are allowed to wear them May-September. Responding to alarms bunker pant are mandatory.
  5. Thanks Andy, it has always been a pleasure working with you. You'll probably see a lot of me this summer, around August my wife will be ready to kill me.
  6. Thanks Brian for your kind thoughts. You'll still see me at the Training Center as a CFI. I'll be the one with the big smile on my face.
  7. Thanks for your kind thoughts. Yeah, I'll still work at the Training Center. I have to keep my finger on the pulse of the County Fire Service somehow. Plus I'll get to see all the friends I've made over the years.
  8. Did they really think that they could run across the couch? What if one of the FD members was involved in an accident responding to the fire? Just like that MTV show, what a couple of JACKASSES!!
  9. Every run requires an NFIRS written and it's the duty captain's resposibility to enter the report into the computer whether or not he went on the run. It happened yesterday, I was on the engine and the ladder caught a run.
  10. There will be a retirement party for Capt. Robert Kerr and FF Joseph DelGrande of the Greenville FD, members of GUFA Local 1586. 11. I'm another reader of Fire Engineering that read the last page first. I had the pleasure of meetiing Tom at a seminar sponsored by Yonkers FD at the Polish Community Center close to 20 years ago. He was a down to earth Chief who loved swapping his knowledge with what he called " the brothers". His wit and expertise will be missed by all of us in the fire service.
  12. Great looking Jeep. I've had 2 Cherokee Sports, and I'm on my second Grand Cherokee. You get older and you want to be comfortable. I'm a Jeep guy for life.
  13. That's why my Chief calls the stretch that we cover from Jackson Ave. to Dobbs Ferry Rd. "Highway to Heaven".
  14. When E151 or L4 respond on mutual aid a callback of a Capt. and 3 firefighters is made.

  16. I think the resposibility is the FDs. Yes, thermal imaging cameras are a good tool, but give me a set of irons any time. Sheetrock is cheap.
  17. Wisconsin Police have staked out every men's room in the state hoping for a leak.
  18. I couldn't agree with you more Walt, I heard about it yesterday working a mutual for capt38. Needless to say it was one of the quietest days at 711 since the news of Booby D. Billy will be sorely missed throughout the County and State, not ony in Greenburgh. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and daughters, as well as his brothers in the Fairview FD. Rest in peace brother.
  19. My condolences go out to all of the Malone family, Gene, John, Jimmy and Gene IV and their wives and especially to Billy's wife and children. It's a sad day not only to the firefighters in Greenburgh Local 1586, but to all the firefighters of the NYSPFFA. Rest in peace brother.
  20. Folding spanner, door chocks, wire cutter, 35 ft. bail-out rope, leatherman, slip (or shove) knife, webbing and latex gloves.
  21. I think it was more like 1977, I was a C.O. at the County Jail from '77 to '79 and we had the guy that lit it. He was charged with murder and arson and went bye-bye to the State. He had to be kept in the Forensic Unit due to the crime and his burns. You're right about the bunker pants too.
  22. I'm with Pville 2371, a Giants fan rooting for an old NFL team. I think they're getting 2.5 million for a thirty second commercial Andy. Most years they're better than the game.
  23. I would have to agree with Jason. Education is always a good thing. I had no fire service background when I was hired, but I was Civil Service ( C.O. at County Correctons). I also had no volunteer experience either. I waited 2 years on the list and got called. Now, 27 years later I think it was worth the wait.
  24. Greenville FD had 1,056 runs for the year. That's slighly ahead of 2004 (1032).
  25. I have an autographed copy of Building Construction for the Fire Service and it was a pleasure to meet him. But I thiught hys name was FRANK BRANNIGAN. Walter you still can't type. He will be sorely missed.
