  1. I just spent a week out there, buffing mostly LA County. Pictures to follow.
  2. It gets abused, simple as that.
  3. Sorry dude, I'm on vacation. As for out west, they tend to find the most versatility out of tillered quints. Maneuverable, and can operate without an engine if need be. They also take immaculate care of those rigs so they get quite a few years out of em.
  4. Woulda been quite a sight.
  5. no 10-75, it's not 27 to go, it's 27, go. Side note, I learned a lot from that retired dispatcher. He retired last year from SI and his retirement is a loss for our job.
  6. Lake Carmel FD 1972/3?? Ford Tanker, former Oil truck. Disposed of in 1992 1970 Mack CF Telesquirt Served as FDNY E-70. Sold to Wall Township FD in 1992, now serving somewhere in Texas. 17-2-1 and 17-3-1 Twin 1971? Ford pumpers 2-1 was used by the Kent Highway Department, not sure where 3-1 ended up. Carmels' old 12-4-1 was serving the Carmel Highway department back in the 90's but I don't know if they still have it.
  7. There's one or two places out on Long Island that are also supposed to be pretty cool.
  8. OK my 2 cents on this. The only members of the FDNY that should be allowed to wear the Green Beret are the current, former, and retired members of that firehouse only. They have earned that privelege. The rest of the members should be dressed in the proper uniform. That being said, I fully support those who boycotted the parade and heckled the mayor and Scopuppet.
  9. Interesting idea...
  10. I don't know what the guy looks like, but please keep visuals like that out of my head. I really don't need anymore nightmares, thank you kindly.
  11. I completely forgot. There is a website out there that has the list of all the HT frequencies. I usually lock it out unless I am going to a job on my own time and want to hear what's up on the fireground.
  12. I don't particularly see a problem with sending one or two rigs to a parade. As for the drinking. I've already spoken my peace about this. Don't get me wrong, I have knocked back a few at parades, but kept it in moderation and always had a ride to and from. Here's something I wanted to run past you guys for your thoughts. I used to date a girl whose dad was a volunteer. This is something that used to drive her insane. I didn't understand it at first, but after a while I kinda agreed with her. What is your opinion of non members of a department wearing the uniform hats of its members, IE. wives, girlfriends wearing the hat. I find this incredibly disrespectful. It demeans the pride behind the uniform. That, and when you put that cap on, you hold it by the shield or the top above the shield, and not the brim. (That's the ex-military guy in me) And another thing. Is it really necessary for a department to go tear assing on a rig with lights and sirens out of a parade after winning a trophy, be it best non reg or best overall?? Not to mention the whooping and hollering... Call me a curmudgeon but I never understood why this happened. Awards and trophies don't mean squat if you can't perform where it counts. As for mstrangs "negative" comments, he does make some valid points. Yes you can show pride, and get your rig shined up. Yes, you can march and show off your pride in your uniform. But can you do the job when the poop is hitting the fan?? Look at all the black eyes and disrespute that has been brought upon Fire Departments NATIONWIDE!!! We aren't the darlings of the public/media lately. Too many knuckleheads are sullying the good names of all who serve and who came before. It needs to stop. Soapbox AQ...
  13. I remember seeing an old ALF lime green tiller over at the Westchester Training Center back in the day. Any idea where that one came from?? I'm presuming it was an old YFD tiller. As for not seeing them much around here anymore, yes it is sad. Cost and size considerations are the two big issues. Ladder 173 here in Queens was a tiller for years. Then the city gave them a rear mount. The reasoning behind it was weight. They didn't want it falling through the floor and into the basin underneath the firehouse. There are plenty of other departments, especially out west that run nothing but tillers. Case in point, x635's newest obsession, LAFD. Side note...YAY ME!!!!! 300 posts!!!
  14. MLB

I think the Braves, as usual will lock up the NL East, with either the Mets or Philly taking the wild card. The Yankees are going to have a LOT to prove this year, especially with Giambi and all his problems. The Sox are probably going to clinch either the wild card or the AL East. It's tough to say considering they dumped Pedro. I'll probably be hitting more minor league stadiums this year. Keyspan Park, Dutchess Stadium, maybe one down in Camden NJ with my brother and his wife.
  15. I can top it. I'm driving around the city and I have the FDNY Handi talkie frequency plugged into my portable. I get a Spanish speaking gentleman that pretty much overrides just about everything else. Sounds like a cab service based over in East New York, or Brownsville Brooklyn.
  16. I'm gonna be up in that neck of the woods today, visiting my mom. I may try to stop by and check out how things operate.
  17. I was related this situation by a friend of mine in the Midwest. It seems he rolled up on an unconcious in a car. The brother of the patient was standing outside the car, and when he was asked to move, the brother belted the Lieutenant. In the process, the Lt. had some serious damage done and is now looking at surgery to repair some f'ed up sinuses. Here's my question, if you roll up on something and while initiating care, a bystander decides he or she is gonna take a swing, what are the protocols covering self defense, or do you back off the scene and patient until PD arrives?? The reason I ask this is a number of years back, another friend of mine was acosted while attempting patient care at an MVA. A gentleman became rather agitated and charged the Medic and took a swing at him with a folding cane. The Medic blocked the cane and decked the guy, breaking the aforementioned acosters' nose in the process. The Medic got off scot free. This Lieutenant tells me he is bound by state law not to act in defense or retaliation. Personally I woulda beat the snot out of the skell. Input appreciated. JBE
  18. Public perception once again here. Drink in moderation, make sure you have a DD, and above all, DON'T DO ANYHTING THAT COULD BRING DISCREDIT UPON YOU OR THE DEPARTMENT YOU'RE WITH!!!
  19. There's always the possibility that the other normally assigned companies were either out on other runs or out of service or something like that.
  20. Somebodys' been listening to the audio on FDNYTRUCKS.COM That's Ray Stender, retired dispatcher 239.
  21. Taxes are outrageous, it's not as quiet as it used to be. The fishing is good.
  22. 15 members of the same family in one apartment?? Cripes...sounds like some of the tinderboxes I got waiting to happen in Little Guyana in Q. But it's like 15 plus in a three family house that's sectioned off into SRO's. Ya feel sympathy for the deceased, but then you scratch your head and wonder WTF were that many people doing in one apartment?? Total bummer....
  23. Good to see you Sandy!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!
