  1. It's a shame. But, yet another wrestler dying way too young. Do we really need to go down the list?? I can think of ten off the top of my head who have died long before their time. Kinda makes you really respect guys like Ric Flair who have hung in for as long as they have. RIP Eddie, thank you for the memories.
  2. It may not be true, but hey, stranger things have happened.
  3. It's unfortunate the gentleman has passed on. However, humor like this helps people in our profession deal with the stress/sadness of death. And before you mention, "Well what if it was a relative/friend/loved one???" There are people, myself included, who would make some kind of humorous statement to ease the tension and lessen the hurt. We all deal with it in different ways. BTW my first fatal fire as a dispatcher, the deceased jumped from the floor above the fire floor. 10-45 code 1 becomes 10-45 code splat!!! More importantly, I wonder how this guy went for a week without being found. As Ricky Ricardo once said, "You got some 'splaining to do..."
  4. The rumors have been flying about what is going to replace the E-Ones. Pierce, another Seagrave, Ferarra. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm just surprised the Mack is being replaced so soon. I mean, it's only three or four years old.
  5. I would say it's been an evolution. Rescue Squads evolved into the heavy rescues of today. Squads were manpower units that evolved into the multi-functional units they are. Then there's the Rescue Squads like found in Jersey. Or VAC's like we have. As for qualifications, I have no clue.
  6. Another spot to look out for is the Cross County exit ramp at the Thruway over by the old Wendys'. Yours truly got nailed there a while back.
  7. I can also attest to that. I rode with a well known Harlem Truck company for a number of years till I had a falling out with the former Captain. They rarely turned a wheel when I rode. I disappear for a while to dispatch, and they're catching work left and right. I think I'm the "white cloud" so to speak.
  8. Not a bad read, dude. It might be something to consider. No system is completely idiot proof, but this may just help. I feel bad for the poor medic who made the mistake. The guilt he or she has to live with would be worse than any judgement/sanction imposed against them.
  9. I think it was before then. And, after the L-120 rollover this past summer, there will probably be more scrutiny.
  10. Ride alongs are VERBOTEN without written consent from the Fire Department HQ. I suggest you start there.
  11. There's actually 5 of them. Depending on the weather, they go out on patrol and thaw out certain hydrants over the course of the day. They can be special called to incidents when needed.
  12. This is how it was designed. The tower ladders built and delivered in 1994, 95 and 96 all had the single jack up front. The first few were delivered with straight bumpers and had them modified to the angular design you see in that picture. This was the reaction after quite a few bumper clippings trying to pull in and out of various firehouses. They were extremely unpopular with the rank and file members and in 1997 the department went back to the classic twin jack set up. BTW, this rig rolled over this past summer, so the collectible you see here may be worth quite a pretty penny and sell out quick. Also you may want to give credit to LAFirePhotos and Code 3 for the picture.
  13. Just a thought, and maybe it may give ammunition to getting a new tiller. Make every one in HH HnL LCC/Tillerman qualified. So you don't have the problem. Spec out a bare bones tiller without the bells and whistles or trappings sometimes found, work within budget and get a new tiller.
  14. I tend to be a great speaker, but as usual, nobody listens!!!
  15. Just goes to show, the only hose you should be using in the firehouse is the one connected to the apparatus.
  16. Oh good lord. They bring back What's Happening, but not Emergency??? I CALL SHENANIGANS!!!
  17. If I remember correctly, and TB correct me if I am mistaken. Anyone who comes over from another agency, IE: NYPD, gets the 34K after probie school and then goes up after the first year.
  18. Public service is a family business. I grew up around it. My father was retired NYPD(Detective Sergeant 30 yrs). My grandfather was NYDOC for 25 plus. My Maternal Grandfather and a number of uncles on my mothers side worked for the NYCTA. My brother is FDNY EMS and I do what I do. Apparently we have some kinda distant relatives on my fathers side that are FDNY and NYPD. On one hand we have the tradition of service. I take a lot of pride in knowing something I did, or those that work for me did, may have made some sort of difference. Doing the right thing by someone, be it a civilian or an MOS, that's one of my sources of motivation. One of my other motivations lately is to try and fix what's broken with the job today. Coming up with ideas to make the job better for all parties involved.
  19. Lake Carmel I believe is awaiting arrival of a new Engine. Presuming it's going to replace 17-2-1 as the first out engine and 17-2-1 will be moved up to Station 2 to either be a second engine up there or replace 17-2-4. In other words, let me know when it gets delivered so I can get up there and shoot it for this site.
  20. Single engine with a heavily populated area around them. They catch a decent amount of work and got some good companies around them.
  21. Don't get me wrong Seth, I am not looking to bash you, nor am I looking to bash any of the moderators. Negativity is sometimes a part of our occupations. I do appreciate what you have done here in the short time I have been here. This is one of those situations, where as stated earlier, I guess we will agree to disagree. (Quote) Is there any way the moderators can be a little less trigger-happy with the delete key? (Quote) That was one of the points I was trying to make. Constructive criticism is not always a personal attack. The thin skin remark was. And for that I apologize. I'm done talking about this. It's your site. You run it how you see fit. Just remember something folks and if this offends, so be it. Fighting on the internet is like running a race in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.
  22. It seems to me criticism is frowned upon and we all live in such a wonderful place. Yeah ok, just keep telling yourselves that. Do I care about the errors in grammar and spelling?? Not anymore. I realize people out there just didn't pay attention in class. Five bucks says this thread will be gone before sunset today. And, if it is gone, my point will be proven.
  23. Used to drive em nuts in Lake Carmel, too.
  24. Seems as if the powers that be also have a problem with constructive criticism.
  25. It was also a morse code used by the FDNY electricians back in the day to end a transmission. It just kind of stuck.
