  1. Well now, if this had been reported earlier, I would have kept my big yap shut. However, I stand by my statements. Training and drilling should not take a back seat to marching.
  2. I am a proponent of 10-codes, however I couldn't agree with you more. I have heard people who are rather intelligent totally mangle transmissions because they aren't thinking, or they don't know the 10-codes.
  3. I can't believe what I am seeing here. Having the best looking rigs and getting the best marks for marching makes for a better department?? That is the biggest bunch of BS I have ever heard. Training is boring?? That training just may save someones life, maybe even your own. My hat is off to this poor guy who has his prioirties in the right place. It's too bad the ignorant and the dinosaurs in his department are giving him such a hard time. Parades should not be mandatory for any member unless your department is the one hosting it.
  4. I really don't have much interest in seeing this movie. Probably because I along with many of us on this site, either lived through it or are reminded of it every day. However, this movie is based on the story written by the PA Cop who was caught in, and survived the collapse. I don't think anyone could call that story BS. It's IMO, a wake up to those who may have forgotten. I did read somewhere in the past few days that a percentage of the box office is going to charities, such as the families of the victims and to the memorial fund.
  5. No. The only tower ladders that FDNY had that were rear mounted were the ALF/LTI rigs from the early 80's. Aside from some Pierce bodies on some old Rescues and Haz Mat 1's current second piece, there have been no other Pierce apparatus in the city.
  6. Unfortunately I couldn't make it. It's always been on a Thursday as far back as I can remember. The last time I marched was 90 or 91, and it was a huge parade, there were departments from all over the place. I think the furthest away I saw was an engine from Lynbrook, Long Island. Anyone get shots of 11-5-1??
  7. Redneck firefighting 101.
  8. I thought for the longest time they were butt ugly. I still think they are, but they have grown on me. I think they were trying to modernize the look of the present day fire apparatus. I also think it depends on how the paint job comes out. Perfect example of how Quantums are pleasing to the eye in my case, look at Vegas.
  9. Depending on how I feel, I may head up that way tomorrow. If not, I am planning a Sunday trip up there to hit a few houses and get shots of some rigs. One of them being that elusive 11-5-1.
  10. There has to be more to this than is being reported. I got my stones broken for saying K up in Lake Carmel when I first got on the job, but for the DFD to suspend this guy over saying 10-4 seems to be a bit much.
  11. Thank you for the compliment. Although I admit, I have been wrong about a few things, and there are a lot of things I either wish I knew, or had better access to gaining that knowledge.
  12. (Quote)Actually, if 46.26 was used for tones ONLY, and say, 46.14 was used to talk to 60, and maybe 46.42 was used by 60 to talk to units in the field, and other channels were used on the fireground...... Oh, snap.(Quote) This idea is long over due. Especially with the amount of units you guys have up there. Another idea would be to have a frequency for certain battalions int he county. This is something one large department I frequently buff (LA County) does. (Quote)You have a CFC that wants to implement change and get things in the right direction and is thwarted at every turn. Why....because of the word "change". Everyone has their own way and that is the "right way." Go figure. You had a DES Commissioner who had great insight and plans and was fought with over everything. Why again, change that might have improved the services Westchester citizens get. But when people look at things like its a personal attack on a status instead of what the overall picture is that's what happens. (Quote) I truly hate hearing stuff like this. I'm pretty old school when it comes to a lot of things, but if there is an opportunity to improve on an existing system, and nothing but benefits comes out of it, why not?? Sure, there will be some growing pains with adjustments and stuff, but adapting is a trait that most humans are good at. PS I did consider applying for that Communications position up there that was posted a few months back. Unfortunately other things came up.
  13. I am going to go with most of the answers posted here. It was probably some sort of business that they had outside of the city. In my experience, if God forbid it was a LODD or serious injury, they have been known to fly a helicopter up to the family.
  14. I'll also take the philosphy of I'll believe it when I see it. However if they come up with a chassis like a modernized CF and then put it through the paces in NYC, I think it would be awesome.
  15. I got a friend in Truck 2. I'm actually surprised they don't have a site yet.
  16. Spoke to one of my colleagues earlier. FF Schunk has a rod in his leg and should be out of the hospital in a few days. FF Walters is going through surgery. He's got a long road ahead of him. Say your prayers and watch yourselves out there. (quote)It's a good thing they weren't on the hosebed or back step, don't ya think?? (quote) I'm not quite sure what to say to this.
  17. Actually that was the start of the School House Rock shorts. "Knowing is half the battle"
  18. This is what happens when you have people who suffer from the delusion that the world revolves around them. Self important (message board edit). Seems to me a reality check is due.
  19. Congrats!!!! EMT# 224___ Expired a while ago.
  20. Example of Backfilling: Patterson relocates to Brewster while Brewster is tied up at a job. Patterson gets something while relocated to Brewster and Kent is relocated to fill Brewsters house. We do this all the time to keep a sufficient amount of coverage.
  21. High Pressure Engines: 6,10,26,34,54,65,258 2000 GPM Pumpers(Satellite Water System): 9,72,284,324,159,207
  22. All 5 rescues are scuba and collapse rescue certified. Up until about two years ago Rescue 3 was the only Rescue that had a collapse unit for citywide response. Now, all of them do so you can get the help you need quickly as opposed to waiting for R-3 or its back up and RC-3 to get there.
  23. They built three of them. They built another "standard" engine on an Inferno chassis in 01. That was donated to E-283 and then it went to Chauffer Training. As far as I know, other High Pressure Engines 6,10,34, and 65 are all Seagraves.
  24. Ummm, they've been SCUBA certified for years.
