Only 65 cents of each radio will be donated?? Cheapskates. PS The Radio Shack link is bad.

It's good to see that some departments are taking that step in the right direction when it comes to safety.

HEY!!! Get off the computer and do that honeymoon stuff!!!

I had a question about this, and if this is the wrong forum for it, then kindly move it. I was noticing in the Alert about the MVA/Fire on 287 that the White Plains Chief added a truck to the assignment. How often do you guys up there operate on a highway without a second piece of apparatus(Chiefs cars not included) backing you up and blocking traffic??

I had a situation before I left Lake Carmel. I was sitting in the crew chiefs seat of the ambulance as we were getting ready to respond on a run. One of the Lieutenants was sitting outside with a few of the local girls who liked to hang around the firemen. The way he came off, was in my mind, him trying to make himself look cool in front of the ladies. "I thought only EMT's could ride in the front seat." I poked my head out the window and said loud enough, "I am an EMT, D##khead." and off we went. When I returned, he gave me this speech about how I should respect him because he was a Lieutenant. I apologized for my remark, but also added that I would show him the respect due his rank when he started acting like someone worthy of that rank. To his credit, he did apologize for not knowing I was an EMT. Being an officer or a chief doesn't make you a better person when you're an @$$hole, it just makes you an @$$hole with stars and bars on your collar.

Thanx for the info on 22-5-1. It was purchased by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. I just wasn't sure the size of the boom. I got some clarification on 17-2-3's deck gun. It's not spring loaded. I guess it just slides up and locks into place. I think this weekend I am going to sit down and plan out my trips over the course of September/October. Should be enough to keep me busy.

Believe me, I wanted to get more, I think what I am going to do next time is hit one or two departments up there on a Sunday and space it out over the course of a few weekends, weather permitting of course. I'll probably head back up tand do Brewsters main station, substation again and Put Lake next time. Then hit Croton Falls. After that I'll do all of Somers.

Can any of you guys recommend a decent portable?? The reason I ask is because I was up in Putnam today and when P-911 did the Sunday Morning tone test, I heard very little of it, and I was less than 5 miles from P-911, parked in front of the Brewster Firehouse.

Thanx, Seth. Always looking to keep the options open.

Quick trip over to my old stomping grounds in Lake Carmel, where I find 17-2-3 practicing pumping/drafting/putting the deck gun to work. Maybe some of you Lake Carmel guys can help me out on this one. Was I dreaming or is that deck gun spring loaded so it will clear the apparatus door?? Got over to the Main Station, where I grabbed a few shots. 17-1-1, 17-2-1, and 17-7-1. And another shot of 17-2-3. I miss the old Ford with the front mounted pump. Next and final stop. Kent. first off the new 16-2-1. This has got to be one of the coolest rigs I have seen in a long time. 16-4-2 16-4-3. I was amazed at the job they did on the refurb. 16-7-1 And finally, 16-1-1. A BIG Thank you to the members of Brewster, Lake Carmel(968), Patterson and especially Kent for being so accomodating. If anyone wants to use these pictures, do the right thing and PM me for permission. I'd really rather not have to start watermarking my pictures. Enjoy!!!

Well, I was up at my mothers this morning and I decided to hop in the car and head out for a little photo hunt. First stop, Brewster for those elusive shots of 11-5-1 that somebody was asking about. The Ladder 8 Tribute was pretty easy to find.. Run around front, and we have 11-2-1. Off to Brewsters main station, where I find 11-2-5. Next Stop, Patterson. Here's 22-2-3. From the other side. Here's a shot I have wanted for a long time. 22-5-1. Somebody help me out, is this a 75 footer or a 100 footer?? Please PM me for permission to use these pictures.

to fitzjr11 and EJS1810 on their recent entrance into the land of Holy Matrimony!!! God Bless and all the best to both of you.

Just to add to this, if anyone has questions about relocations citywide, please don't hesitate to hit me on the PM's and ask away.

What's the hours??

Real or not, that is quite a shot.

LA County has been using them almost exclusively for about 15 years. They just started getting delivery of a pretty big order. I guess it depends on who you ask. And with Seagrave, they have been having a lot of problems, especially with FDNY.

Yeah, I think Wow is appropriate.

Like I said, it's been a long time since I ran a CPR run and my EMT cert expired in 1999. My memories of protocols are a bit fuzzy. Thank you.

It's been a long time since I have run a code, but isn't this something that could open up a really big can of worms in the area of lawsuits?? What I mean is you go in, start working a patient up and stop, or pronounce someone on the spot. The family thinks you didn't do enough to help that person. BOOM, you're staring down the barrell or a lawsuit.

I don't think either will be a fix, however there is nothing wrong with wanting better dispatchers. Which everyone could use some improvement. What I am saying is having someone in charge of communications, or the head of DES, or both taking assignments from each department. Paid or volunteer doesn't matter. Like I said before, have these people work with the respective chiefs and make a county wide plan for mutual aid, with provisions installed to keep everyone happy. jbe thanx man you also come through in the clutch i hope you feel better. eng 92 yeah lol it was a typo

Well this is where you have the guy running things up there sitting down every chief in the county and saying, "We need to get some standarization and let's do it quickly. Let's set up plans for relocations and assignments to locations, keep the politics out of it." And you take it from there.

Although I am on medical leave, I can answer this to a point. You have to look at the larger picture. You have units out for the entire day tour so you may be short right there. You also have units that are must fills, such as Ladder 36, due to geographical considerations. One other thing you have to remember is that unlike Brooklyn, where you have an abundance of units, you get a multiple and maybe another all hands on top of that in the Bronx, you're going to Manhattan or Queens for relocators. Simply put, the Bronx runs out of companies pretty quick. With the weather conditions and manholes, you probably had a lot of units sitting on those till Con Ed showed up. We have to maintain an adequate amount of units to keep the entire borough protected. If we start getting below a certain point, or percentage, we go into Fallback Step 3 which is where we modify responses. Some bosses modify it even further when there's bad weather, or numerous Activated Fire Alarms going off due to Con Ed blowing a feeder somewhere or a power surge(which is something I am notorious for doing). With bad weather we just prioritize. It's not uncommon for the 17 to go north into the 19 if the 19 is the 10-75 chief at a job(in this case I think he was if I remember the job correctly). The 18 will go west and the 27 will come south. The 13 Bn will come over from Manhattan. 56 Truck was also second due at that job and I would presume 33 was either OOS or went in as FAST truck. Double check that relocator to 62. Engine 302 is restricted from relocation and even if they weren't, any Supervising Dispatcher would have a lot of explaining to do if they took an Engine from South Jamaica and put them up in the North Bronx. Sure it wasn't maybe 306?? 19 Truck to 56 is a relocation we do all the time, and vice versa, simply because it's a straight run right up Webster Avenue. Same with 17 up to 33. We send them right up the Concourse to 33 pretty regularly, and just before I went out, I sent 33 down to 17 to fill the hole while 17 and 29 were tied up in Queens. You mentioned 144, they are within spitting distance of the Throggs Neck Bridge, so I would presume they came over to backfill a Bronx Unit that was either relocated already, or out of service and the Bronx needed to fill a hole. There is a weird science to relocations, and it does take some time to be able to do them with a certain amount of skill.

Now, here's my question. When you say the rigs are owned by the district and not the association, what's what exactly is the difference?? If I remember right, they have some paid drivers that work for the district, I presume the volunteers are members of the association??
