  1. Probably by the end of this year/beginning of next.
  2. R-6, I was asking your opinion the feasibility of a nationwide 10-code implementation. Although it isn't listed as a 10-code in FDNY speak, we do have a 10-13 and 10-85 signal in our vernacular. However, it is used for a request by the Fire Marshals for the same thing as NYPD uses it. Personally I think if it was implemented with subcodes for certain situations, it is doable nationwide. It'll take a while for it to catch on though.
  3. While it's a shame that the Patrol will unfortunately be going away, I wonder what the ramifications of this will be from FDNY side of the equation. Ladder Co. availability takes a hit because of requests for salvage, or possibly the return of the old Salvage Corps.
  4. R-6, just out of curiosity, since you and I have the same idea about nationally standard 10-codes. Would you consider, in this age of interoperability, standard 10-codes to be understood across the board??
  5. So President Clinton had it right. He'll live to be 120.
  6. The gent that did that was one of the best dispatchers you guys had. I would love to see a standardized 10-code used nationwide. I think it would take a long time to implement though.
  7. (quote)I dont think that is a good idea for 60 control to go that route, my reason is this there is no need to use plain english on the radio if there is too much confusion with the codes then there is a need to train the disptachers on codes mean what again I still think this a bad idea besides the ten codes sound more professional than plain english.(quote) ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! If nobody is on the same page, with the ten codes, you can't necessarily use them. I think we've been down this road before. Numbah too, the dispatchers out there, be they FDNY, 60 Control, P-911, have better radio discipline and training than most folks out in the field. Why not take a ride to your dispatch office and see how good they really are.
  8. Reminds me of when E-294 got shut down in the late 80's/early 90's. Within a few months they had a fatal fire and L-143 was waiting a while for water, while 285, 293, 270, and 305 were coming in. That's one of the platforms that got Giuliani elected. He gets sworn in, 294 is back in business the next day.
  9. For those of you who remember me from my dispatcher days, I was 408. I got promoted and became 73(Probie Supervisor). It's now been two years plus, and I am unofficially permitted to use my non probie number, 47. So if you're tuning into KED-962 anytime soon, and you hear, "10-4, 47 at 2300 hours", it's just me. Listen closely and you may hear some KISS or Metallica, in the background. For those of you who are Mets fans like myself, when it comes to numbers, I went from Kenny Rogers to Jesse Orosco. I know, what about Glavine?? Once a Brave, always a Brave.
  10. Yes, there were a few JO's on that board. A couple of immature kids who suffered from foot in mouth disease, and obviously now, a thin skinned head of a collectibles company who doesn't like being called out on numerous subjects. You also got a ton of useful knowledge from many people. You get the right people from certain parts of the country who can do the legwork for the R and D, you can get some quality models made. I'd gladly give up some spare time to be one of those "focus group" types. But, my advice for Mr. Shellchase is, don't get bent out of shape when your product doesn't satisfy the customer, especially when the quality of the product(IE major mistakes and/or innaccuracies, Seagrave Tiller, anyone??) has taken a major fly attracting dump.
  11. I remember when that rig was brand new. Sing it with me folks, "Our house, we have trophies on the walls!!"
  12. It was a full service hospital until sometime in the 90's. I want to say 95-96.
  13. Ahhh does my heart proud to see the old truckie again.
  14. Just about all C3's. 70 plus and counting.
  15. I'll take a wait and see approach. Pretty much the same thing I have done since day one.
  16. Personal opinion, they should have reached out to the more umm, Mature members of the board and let those members be moderators.
  17. Umm, what exactly happened??
  18. As far as I remember the two FF's are alive. However, bringing this video back to the forefront reminds people to be safe and smart when fighting a fire, even if it's a "controlled burn". Your gear can only protect you to a certain point.
  19. On a personal note, I have always been kind of taken aback when people call me, "Boss". Since most of my subordinates are either close to my age or older than me, I'm more confortable with being called Jimmy, or one of my nicknames.
  20. From all the sorrow and grief, happiness will bloom. It's things like this that make us appreciate the everyday, sometimes mundane things in life that much more. To Gina and Jimmy, Although I do not know you personally, I am in awe of the strength, courage and grace in which you have handled these tragedies. You have earned my undying respect and admiration. May the good Lord continue to bless you and smile upon you and your family as you look ahead. RIP JimmyBoy, your strength will always be an example to others. All the best, Jimmy Blue Eyes
  21. We're using a modified version of NIMS, it's called CIMS. We're working out the bugs with it. The new terminology is a little more long winded than what we used to use. I think if we stuck with some of the old terminology, or if our terminology was adopted by others, or modified a little bit, it would be a little more advantageous. Some of them are more concise than the NIMS stuff.
  22. And don't say, "K" to Putnam 911. You will be responded to with "LMNOP". True story. But seriously, I feel both 10-codes and clear text have their place in Emergency communications. Sometimes 10-codes work better in certain situations than clear text. Other times the opposite is true. Although I have been using 10-codes for nearly my entire career in communications, so I am a little more comfortable with them. PS, well said, Eddie. If it's kept brief and concise, it works best for those who use it as SOP.
  23. Wow, code 99, I remember that one. Wow, again 1,100 posts.
  24. I'm looking for someone who will be able to help me set up photo shoots next week for the following Putnam Departments: Brewster(both houses), Kent, Patterson(both houses) and Put Lake. Preferably during the week. Please feel free to e-mail me or PM me. Thank you in advance. PS, Doc and any Somers guys, reach out to me, I will be in touch.
  25. Boss, Cap, Chief, if you're in or out of quarters. Unless you knew the guy from way back when and it's ok for you to address them by their first name.
