Yeah, but does it have a hemi???

Pokey 3 1/2 mph?? I'm going to go a little off topic here. That equals about 2 knots. The ship is obviously not under its own power. It's going to be towed. Operations like this will take time, and need to be handled with precision. Especially with something that big. Sorry, Pat Milton, AP reporter, but once again you show why I don't like too many people from the press. I guess he would like to see it go at warp factor 6, and then towlines snap and wheeeeee, the Intrepid sails into Chelsea Piers and takes out half the building.

Inappropriate?? Yes. Unprofessional?? Totally. How were the dispatchers discipllinary track records prior to this incident?? If this was the first offense, and they don't have other bad marks, firing may have been a bit much. I guess whoever doles out punishments felt a hit in the wallet wasn't going to cut it.

Yeah, Baby!!! Just an FYI, CG 6527, the white and orange one, is in the old paint scheme. That was replaced with the current orange with the white stripe paint job around the time I enlisted in 1992. I've been in one once. Got lifted in a basket off a 41 foot utility boat in the Raritan River back in October 1995. Got brought up about 30 feet, moved off the side of the boat about 50 feet and then dunked into the water. The obscenities flew and were loud enough to be heard over the rotors. Also, when you're out at sea, you can hear those suckers coming for miles, but can't see them till they are right on top of you. Almost forgot, the Air Station at Atlantic City was a combination of the old airstations in Brooklyn and Cape May.

They are big, they are tough and they are loud. However, nothing beats the sound of the HH65A Dolphin as it's coming at you.

Here we go with the conspiracies. Patiently waiting for, "Can't say!!!"
-
I want to say it's from a few years ago(maybe 02 or 03), and possibly Germany or the Netherlands.

Open up to get a visual. Vent as needed and knockdown using exterior attack.

And the Coasties were told in the 90's they no longer needed sonar technicians... I have to say, when I was in the CG, I saw quite a few pictures and read quite a few stories on how inventive smugglers can get. This is pretty impressive.

They smacked into a tractor trailer on Queens Boulevard, about a half a mile from the firehouse. Smashed up the cab pretty bad, too. I have to say, I don't remember the last time I actually saw that rig out in the street. They were driving the 96 HME/Saulsbury spare(former R-4) not too long ago, and they were driving the Spirit of Oklahoma as early as two weeks ago when I buffed an all hands over in Jamaica. PS, the Spirit of Oklahoma was used as Rescue 6 during the summer/fall of 04, and there is another newer style Mack out there as a spare as well.

Umm, out west they are called rescues, and our idea of a heavy rescue out west is a big @$$ wrecker." (See LAFD HR56)

I think you're going down the correct road, as was the gent from Purchase. Every time an alarm comes in and it turns out to be unwarranted(false alarm, defective system, more than three responses in a specific time frame) start writing those tickets. Then, for every fire code violation, write some more tickets. Hopefully that will straighten stuff out and get those RA's and RD's on the same page. If a fraternity member is involved with pulling the alarm and it is a false alarm, lock em up and leave em at the doorstep for the cops, then fine the student and/or the fraternity. Public Safety at these colleges should be on the phone to FD the moment that alarm comes in, no excuses.

Is the deterrent worth it?? Kid touchers still end up where they shouldn't be. Regardless of Megans Law. Call me cynical, but I don't think this is going to keep anyone from going out, getting boozed up and getting behind the wheel.

Wait a second, an all volunteer military is disporportionately made up of lower income and minority type people?? I beg to differ. I served in the military from 1992-1996. I came from a good home with great parents. Many of the people I met and served with came from the same background. We all had one thing in common, we wanted to serve our country. I'm not going to deny that there are plenty of people who do join the service as an alternative to the scourges of poverty and other ills that plague the big cities. Others join to get away from the boredom of home, which is another reason I joined up. I guess I, and many others are an exception to the rule. The only thing Rep. Rangel has done to impress me was when he blasted the President of Venezuela for badmouthing President Bush on a visit to Harlem. And even that wasn't very impressive. It was almost like, Hey buddy, don't talk smack about my president. There's enough people in this country, myself included, who do it as it is."

I noticed an NYPD radio car doing what looked to be seatbelt checks on Union Turnpike off of Woodhaven Blvd in Queens this morning.
-
I've been to this office a number of times over the past 5 yrs. It's a really awesome set up. However, what you would hear on the radio is a simple warble tone, "Engine and Squad 51, Man down, 3900 Lankershim Boulevard, Lot C" No acknowledgment.

I guess it got changed again. Before I left LCFD, they wanted us doing what I had originally posted. But then again, I did the way you posted it and regularly threw in K, just to be a pain. Ahh, to be 23 and full of P n V.

If I remember correctly, the alarm is announced, but assignments are not given over the air. When the unit signs on it goes something like this. "Putnam 911 this is 12-2-1" "12-2-1" "12-2-1 is responding to XXXXXXX"

Come on, Andy. You know Numbah too is the legacy of the former Mad Scientist of Woodland Hills, usually started and finished with two words. "Can't say" As for my wish list, ok, I'll bite yet again, because I have updated it. LAFD Pierce E-63. LAFD Truck 63(if and when the old Seagrave is replaced) First LAFD house I ever visited, thanx Michelle. LAFD Engine and Truck 27. I gotta go with Seth on this one, those ALF Tillers are sweet. Lake Carmel 17-4-4. Carmel 12-2-1 and 12-5-1. Patterson 22-6-1(which I could probably bash if given the right tools/time) ANY LA County KME Engine, preferably 51,127,8,30,and the Black over Red CAFS Engine when it gets assigned to a station. LA County Crown marked for E-269. ANY LA County KME TDA/TDQ 8,30,127,33,126(The last two to keep Seth smiling) New style LA County Squads. 51 obviously comes to mind. This would be a little difficult considering 51 is one of only three 2 door cab Squads in the county. Yonkers E-313/L-73/R-1 Stepjam did a hell of a job building these, and I would love to see those mass produced. And now for my FDNY list: E-72/Satellite 2, any era, preferably early 80's. They got the molds, let's get it done. Engine 45/TL-58/Bn 18, top notch house and very distinctive rigs. 1/64 Squad 61 And of course Engine 308/JFK Hosewagon/Bn 51. And maybe 308 in its past incarnations, 1979 Mack, 1985 Mack, and 2004 Seagrave. Always sharp looking, and for the obvious sentimental reasons. Baltimore Engine 33/Truck 49 as soon as the licensing issues can be cleared up. Anything from Baltimore now that I think of it. Classics: Please be mindful that to me a classic is anything from the mid 60's up to the early 70's. ALF 900 and Century tillers. FDNY and Yonkers come to mind for these. Especially those lime green ones that Yonkers had. More LA County Ward La Frances. Maybe another E-60. LA County Crown Snorkel, Truck 127, of course. FDNY Mack R Pumper marked for E-303. Maybe even do the before and after(2003 Seagrave) with them. LCFD Mack CF/Telesqurt 17-5-1. Re-decaled LA County Squad 8, or the Squad used in the pilot episode of Emergency! as Squad 10. More ALF Century pumpers from FDNY, Chicago, Put Lakes 23-2-3, and of course, LA County.

Sorry, 16 is too young to have that much responsibility, regardless of how difficult the training is. Liability also comes into play here. Personally, I would rather have an older, more mature person providing me with care unless it was basic first aid stuff.

I think a nice mix is the best way to go. LED's for some lights, strobes and flashers for others, and rotators for others.

I am getting into weekends on my tours lately, so I may have to hold off for a while. I would have reached out to a few people for this weekend, but I am taking overtime Sunday(Christmas is coming). For those of you who have replied, thank you. I will be in touch.
