I'm not sure where she got it from. She's in the insurance business, actually. Only me and my brother are on "the job", so to speak.

On Tuesday Night, November 13th, the National Geographic Channel will be airing a documentary titled, As it Was: Voices of 9/11. It will be airing at 10PM, 1AM, and again on November 17th at 4PM. Link This is a little look inside what goes on in a dispatch office, and how the first line of defense in an emergency operates. PS, look for the Mets hat.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the way it turned out. A lot of stuff that was edited out in the final cut, such as the manual operations of fire dispatch, and what we do when the CADS decides to go crash on us. Aside from that, I was disappointed more people from FDNY, EMS, NYPD, FDJC, and PAPD weren't involved. My wife was in tears. There was also a little rant I went on about the tapes, and how they were released last year that didn't get put out. Kinda annoyed at that as well.

The Sutphen one had the bucket as part of the tiller seat. It was built about 15-20 yrs ago. Heaven knows what happened to it.

Did anyone else notice the humour(British spelling) in this line?? "While many of our highly-trained and dedicated staff at the cutting edge..." Or, on the wrong side of that edge..

Submitted for your approval. National law barring any mention of Christmas sales and stuff like that until, like Seth said, Santa takes his joyride to Herald Square. This would also include any hanging of lights, displays and other garish monstrosities that take away from the true spirit of the Holiday season. Pipe dream, wishful thinking?? Maybe. Rose colored glasses time.

Don't forget the Coasties!!!!

Not looking good for the MOS, know his brother and a few of his relatives.

It's called being flagged. I may be mistaken, but I think there is a duty to act. Even if it's just calling it in to the dispatcher. Side note, that sure is a lot of ALS units in the neighborhood.

There's always someone trying to knock you down when you're on top. None of us are perfect, we all have a skeleton or two in our closets. What bugs me is certain things should be left alone. Unless it comes out in the investigation that the drugs and booze contributed to the deaths of those two jakes from Boston, leave it out of the papers. Personal opinion, Det. Zadroga is a hero simply because of all the hours he spent down there, along with anyone else who spent as much time down there as he did. I don't buy that it was just the crushed up meds that got lodged in his lungs. And as usual, my esteemed mayor puts his foot in his speaking/respiratory orifice, and someone should put a boot in the other one.

Did someone save you a brick, at least??

Tinhouses for everyone!!!!

Might be a tight fit, depending on where they go. It's already at a point where there are houses where the rigs just clear the door, vertically and horizontally. The 110 foot RMA's from 1989/91 were low profile, but the crew part of the cab was regular size, so it had the look of a raised roof.

I hope you guys get it. My union is presently trying to get our 25 and out down to 20 and out. If that goes through, 9 years, 5 months and 7 days to go!!!

Imagine the social life this guy had growing up.

This surprises anyone?? He's not worth the money he's making. Yet another coddled, and classless skell ballplayer. It shows the lack of class he and his agent have. Not even 5 minutes before the game ended last night, they announce he's opting out. While I am on this little rant about lack of class, did anyone else who stayed up late last night catch what's her name from Fox sports ask Mike Lowell about free agency?? Hey lady, why not save a question like that for another time and let the guy bask in his championship?? PS, I don't think the Mets will try for him, either.

I've glossed over this subject and cameup with some solutions and opinions. Number one, the issue should be brought up with the officers of the said department. Number 2, send the closest available MA and then relocate/backfill/tone out for more MA. Number 3, the county fire coordinator/DES director should step in and get the chiefs together for a little meeting. They should use the same statement that was made here earlier, "The politics end when the tones go off." You will request the nearest available mutual aid, regardless of what department it is. Example, if Carmel has a fire at Palmer Agency on 52 and Fair Street, they would request Lake Carmel, Brewster and Mahopac for MA, in order of distance. If for the sake of argument, there's an area where long stretches are needed, ask P911 to special call 11-8-1. Get everybody on the same page, and have a fire coordinator who can put aside any allegiance to the department they originally belonged to and say, "This is how it is going to be, and that's final." As for the department that went MA for use of the cascade system, and they pitched a fit because they weren't going to work, simple solution there. The IC should turn around and say, "Listen, you were requested for the use of that cascade system, If I need you for relief, I will let you know." If they continue to complain, the IC should then say, "I'm running this scene and you will operate as directed, and I will discuss it with your chief when things are under control." It's called having authority and putting it to use. I strongly doubt they will complain further, or, pack up and leave. Just a thought or two. Looking through rosy colored, perfect world glasses.

I would have to listen to the tape, and have a little more info on dispatch policy before I could make a judgement. However, it's not looking good for this guy.

Rockies in six.

This is going to set a dangerous precedent, IMHO. You just might have a situation where a person is not going to want to pay $500 or any amount of money to have the FD show up. Hence, spread of fire, more damage, etc. I've learned from experience that certain ethnicities in the city don't call right away because of that belief they have to pay.

I started thinking about this when I was reading the Wembley idea for a Super Bowl, and kinda touched on it. Now, I'm more of a baseball fan than anything, and I think a seed may have been planted with the World Baseball Classic. But it needs a little tweaking. The rulebooks would stay the same, so everyone is on the same page. Instead of a group of teams handpicked or chock full of current MLB players, Major League Baseball brings the Japanese League, a South American/Caribbean League, and an European/Western Asia League under one umbrella. Interleague play between these leagues is feasible, however, any international games would be strictly exhibition. The seasons would be 162 games, playoffs would all go to best 3 of 5, or of 3 as they have in the NY/Penn League, that's the Renegades for you upstate folks, Cyclones and Baby Yankees for us city dwellers. The World Series would go on as planned, best 4 of 7. Whichever team had the best season record gets home field advantage. Games would be played at a time of day which is acceptable to everyone, and to bring in the necessary revenue from advertising, etc. Then a true world Champion could be crowned. You may only have to add a month to the schedule. Seibu Lions vs. Seattle?? London vs. Colorado?? Berlin vs. The Mets?? Consider, and discuss.

Hmmm, might have to pass this idea along to the wife for a birthday present.

They did have a football team in the original World League of American Football, which de-evolved into NFL Europe. The London Monarchs. How many of those tickets do you think actually went to folks from England and other parts of Europe?? I'm willing to bet a lot of them were sold to Americans. It's an interesting comparison though, when you bring up soccer. It's popular here, but not like Europe. The football fans here are just as devoted as the soccer fans there, although I think worldwide, the soccer fans tend to take team loyalty a little bit further than our fans. I could see regular season games, and maybe a few preseason games played overseas, but not the SuperBowl. I think the NFL should cut its losses in this market, or at least maybe funnel some money into schools that would teach American Football. You want true world champions, I would pay to see an NFL team such as the Giants take on the Championship team from say, Germany, or Italy.
