  1. thanx for the update. My grandparents had a summer house on Bolling Road for years. We used to get our ears blown off by the Shenorock whistle. We could also hear Granite Springs as well. I do remember once it was either being tested or repaired and they were blasting it all day, like every 5-10 minutes. I can hear Lincolndales from my mothers house on 202, not too sure if I can hear Somers House. I think if people hear whistles like that here in the city, they'd either flat out ignore it, or run for the basements.
  2. It was 12 and 6 in Shenorock. I haven't heard a 6 o'clock whistle around Somers in years. Carmel still trips theirs at 5 if I remember correctly.
  3. And when the employer doesn't do the right thing, you pass the hat around for someone in need. 10-13 party anyone???
  4. One thing I've always liked about the European type rigs, functional and no flash.
  5. it is. I do have pictures of Squad 800 operating as Squad 270 from a few yrs ago.
  6. I have seen a rear flasher before. I can't remember if they were KME or Pierce. Governors Island had twin engines delivered in early 1993, and they had a flasher in that same spot. It was a strobe, if I remember correctly.
  7. You got about a week?? I'll give you a somewhat recent one. Had a drunk lady call up saying she was locked out of her apartment. She stated she was butt naked and indecent exposure. She was naked, sexy, lovely, and (less than polite phrase for sexually aroused). I was just wondering how she had the phone with her when she wasn't wearing a stitch of clothing. I once had a person call up asking me what time it was. On Sept. 11th, about two hours after the buildings came down, someone called asking me to send some firemen to check up on his dog. If and when I ever write my book, you can be sure these and other stories will be included. Unfortunately, you can't properly title a book, "You can't make this $*&% up!!!!" Maybe a chapter.
  8. Ahh BARB...what a summer, listening a number of people approach me about that, and then me telling them, Appeal the hell out of it.
  9. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE??!?!?!?!? I'm gonna get a swelled head here.
  10. Awww, shucks. You're gonna get me blushing!!!! Thank you.
  11. Honestly looked like a rental to me.
  12. Gee, and I thought this was going to be a discussion about times gone by, not gas prices. I was up in Carmel earlier tonight with an old friend of mine and we were driving around. I was pointing out places, and what was there before, and it was an interesting little trip down memory lane. PS 3.95 a gallon for Sunoco Plus Broadway and Van Cortlandt Park South.
  13. White Castle is like a strip joint, last stop after a long night of drinking, and you don't have to spend too much to get your fill.
  14. Just off the top of my head, it was more than likely: Engines 48,75,88 Ladders 56,33,38, R-3, Sq-61 Batt. 19. Probably a 3100 or 3300 box number. Batt. 18 was the 10-75 Chief with Div. 7. I've worked five tours in the past week since I've been back, and it's been relatively uneventful. As usual, my class mate from Probie School and fellow Bronx Boss has all the fun.
  15. Two more morons that make all of us look bad.
  16. So last monday, after gassing up the Rock Box, saying my see ya laters to the kinfolk, it was off to Arizona. 20 something hours, not making the left turn at Albequerque, and a pit stop or three. I get into Phoenix to see an old friend of mine from my high school days. That made me happier than I was after I saw these guys. Phoenix Tower Ladder 11. Next day I took a friend's advice and stopped by Station 8. Although Truck 8 wasn't in at the time, everybody else was. Phoenix is a very customer service oriented department, as you can see by the billboard on the side of Engine 8. PS, they are going to Pierces because the ALF's just aren't working out for them. Might have something to do with the 750 pounds of weight under the front end to keep it from going all over the place. Here's Heavy Rescue 8. This is the Rescue Support Truck for the city of Phoenix. It's a 1990 something Spartan or E-One, I honestly forgot. But Good Lord is this thing big!!!! More coming...
  17. The only saving grace of being back is the OT, which now gives me cash flow to go back. Maybe next year.
  18. The nickname Renegade Warriors, for you history buffs out there, was given to the BC Vollies by a Chief in the 47Bn.
  19. Keeps the heat out of the cab, I would think.
  20. Here's to hoping my union and EMS can get what's coming to us. Best of luck guys. Stay safe.
  21. Them's fightin words. Wonder why people can't play nice. It's a big enough river.
