Someone refresh my memory, City of Poughkeepsie had an engine, lightbar under the chauffers window. And a really strange sounding mechanical siren. Reminded me of the sirens they used for Backdraft. I remember seeing it on the arterial on 44/55 and it was making a left turn. This was 1991. Any help would be appreciated, but I'm going to take a stab and say it was an E-One.

Nice going, Chief.

It's kinda funny, I can't think of how many times I have heard, "Can you only send a couple of guys over in a car??" for something that required a standard structural fire assignment. This guy has his opinion, but it is the same opinion I have heard more times than I care to count. Obviously, it is not a very good opinion in the eyes of those of us who deal with fires and emergencies on a daily basis. Interesting flipside to the discussion though. Especially since the writer brings up how the unions will bend in light of the weakening economy. Businesses close, buildings go vacant. Fire duty goes up. Major scale responses, as the author puts it, are reduced because they don't have enough equipment to put out said fires. Union members get the shaft when they have to wait extended periods of time to get help. They'll scream even more and be even less flexible. I look at it this way, and I'm pretty confident my opinion is shared by a lot of you. Better to have and not need, than need and not have. And Rich, I'm right with you with the Smokey.

That's a great shot Mike, however it truly will not look like 88 till they get some gold leaf and stars on it.

Does a Bronto telescope as well?? Or am I thinking of the Pierce Sky Arm??

Who's gonna staff this thing?? PS, pretty sweet lookin rig.

So far, Engines 3,22,39,44,88,245,and 317 that I know of. In the Bronx, I know E-43 and 63 have both gone for familiarization, but I don't know when they will be receiving the rigs. Anyone with a 1997 or 98 Seagrave should be due for one by the end of this year into next. As far as the mechanical Q's, it's a lot more expensive than the electronic one. Personal feeling, the powers that be got sick of people jerry rigging mechanicals so they went and nipped it in the bud.

Ahhh, who's better than you, Ed???

Best wishes for a quick recovery.

Although it's not Dutchess, Brewster had a snorkel till sometime in either the late 80's/early 90's when it was replaced by the current Pierce 11-5-1.

Ahhh the voice of reason. Yes, there are plenty of us who want some "action" if only to sharpen our skills. Only so much training and drilling you can do. However, with the past few cold snaps, and people living in buildings with inadequate/no heat, I anticpate a busier than normal winter. Nobody wants to see someone lose everything, but I gotta feeling there are gonna be a lot of departments running around.

It's an electronic Q, and to ask some of the guys who ride in 88, it sounds like a cat being slaughtered. 299, what exactly don't you like about it??

Spoke to a friend of mine in an unknown Bronx Company who got theirs a few weeks ago. It's got a LOT of get up and go. Stops on a dime(read very sensitive brakes) and is kinda tough to turn. One of the bosses doesn't like the box in front of the deck gun, and it was OOS mechanical for the third time already on Wednesday.

Oh, believe me, I know what the new Marauders look like, and my first thought was, "Looks like a buffed out vollie rig." The Hard Suction is for drafting, if it's ever needed. Not making fun at all, just making humorous observations, hence the TONGUE PLANTED FIRMLY IN CHEEK!!!!

OK, Seth, someone, lock this. This was brought up a few months ago. It's a select bus service route that runs the length of Fordham Road to Pelham Parkway up into Co Op City. Much ado about nothing, IMHO.

Amen to that. I guess going to Home Depot and buying a couple of traps was out of the question.

We get them every so often around here. Oftentimes, it's just reports of fumes, but I can think of at least two times in the past few years we've had a couple of windows blown out. One actually was an all hands on the Concourse I think.

Yonkers goes rural!!! How long before we start seeing folding tanks on the sides of engines?? (Tongue planted FIRMLY in cheek here!!!)

Yeah that and the cab. Lt. Walsh was a FF in R-4, covered in R-5 as a boss and got the spot in Sq-18 a few weeks ago.

The Signal 5-5-5-5 has been transmitted. It is with regret the Department announces the death of Lieutenant Robert Ryan, of Engine Company 155, which occurred November 23rd, 2008 as a result of injuries sustained while operating at Staten Island 2nd Alarm Box 21, transmitted at 0028 Hours. RIP, Loo.

Sq-18 and TL-12. Looks like 12 hit the Squad and they both hit a cab before the Squad came to rest on the curb. They were heading to an activated fire alarm on Grove Street.

Just out of curiosity, where did Carmel end up this year?? My brothers played back in the late 80's/early 90's.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been on there since September, and I prefer it over MySpace. If you're looking to reconnect with anyone from School, College, whatever, it's a better site than MS.

I honestly don't doubt it's possible. Not trying to start rumors or anything. The delay in getting FDNY up there is really only waiting for the ok from the COD or CW Tour Commander. Even that takes less than 15 minutes.
