M, that letter code was on your tickets prior to UCT. A-M are Structural, N-V are Non Structural. If I remember right, you would get the letter code along with the type of building, then what you were going to. My link Good story by Juan Gonzalez in todays' Daily News.

I'm glad to see that they are taking a progressive step in repairing a long standing problem. Last summer, my mother(RIP) called for an ambulance and had to wait until Mahopac Falls came in Mutual aid and transported her to WCMC. Nobody should have to wait 25 minutes for an ambulance coming all the way from the Falls to an area a three minute drive from Somers HQ. Speaking of WEMS, wouldn't it have helped them to have an ambulance roaming in that general area on top of the fly car??

This was one of many mistakes. There was another fatal fire in Queens a few weeks ago that was all over the news. The fatality was a female construction worker who had sued for harrassment. I guess the city just doesn't get that call taking for fires should be left to the pros, regardless of a perceived delay.

Nice shots dude, keep em coming!!!

Time to go stay at the other side of the chateau, perhaps??

There was an article on the Daily News website about this, and holy smoke were there some angry people. Oh no, it's gonna rattle my ears, or knock down a building. How is this any different than the locals who drive around with the bass turned up past 11?? Those folks shake their own cars, not to mention everyone elses.

Looks like all injuries are minor. Numerous Hurst Tools and airbags put into operation. Things are starting to wrap up..

They were going to a reported gas leak in the street. Looks like 107 hit 236, hit an SUV, rolled on the chauffers side and slid into a tree. 236 went up on the sidewalk. Incident is still on going. Thoughts and Prayers, folks. Department Wrecker special called along with Wrecker from Mikes Towing to re-right 107. Members removed to KCH, Brookdale, and Jamaica. No word on how anyone is doing as of now.

I took this class 16 years ago when I was with Lake Carmel, and it was not only informative, but a lot of fun to put what I learned into practice.

Just an opinion, but I don't think there are enough tech rescue situations to warrant an LAFD style rig. I've only seen the wreckers used to pull rigs out of the mud or tow a rig away from a wreck.

That's the new electronic Q's. Last I checked, E-1 has a 2002 Seagrave, probably with a real Q.

Gotta work, sorry guys..

Actually, they are distributed to engine companies through out the city, although I don't believe any of them are the high pressure engines in Manhattan and Queens.

The way it was explained to me is they are based off a Navy type nozzle used for shipboard firefighting. It's a valve with a long slender pipe attached. It has an angle on the end of it. You stick it out a window on the floor below and set it up at the window of the fire room/apartment. It's supposed to knock down a decent amount of fire before the first interior line is placed itno operation, in the event the window of the fire room/apartment is blown out. There are about 10 Engine companies in the city that have them, along with both High Rise Units. They are special called on the 10-76 and 10-77. I'll try to get a picture of one and put it up here some time this week.

Sounds similar to my schedule. 2 days, 0700X1900 24 off, 2 nights 1900X0700 then 4 or 5 days off depending on the week.(Using a 25 group 2 platoon chart like the firefighters) I like the schedule, always have, and it opens the door to shift swaps and extending vacations, time off, etc.

Of course the news isn't going to praise the guy from 47 Truck, because in the minds of the media, and most folks, that's what they get paid to do. Incidentally, this fella propsed to his girlfriend on National TV this morning. Hopefully the guy from 47 will get what's coming come Medal Day.

Something I saw used in LA, say the incident is in Mount Kisco on the Saw Mill, they can always be called Saw Mill IC. I don't know if they still do it in Putnam, but when I was in Lake Carmel, and we had a job, 17-1-1 became IC 17.

I've met Ed. Had to be about 10 years ago. He seemed like an OK guy until someone in the firehouse brought up that I was a Giants fan. If I remember right, Modells put out a shirt with him and his brother on it and sold it for charity. PS, he's a former FF, retired either last year or the year before. Worked out of 28 Truck in Harlem, with a pitstop on City Island after the West Side Stadium commercial.

Sig and Phil definitely seem like two guys I'd wanna sit down and have a beer with.

Just because bail is set, doesn't mean he's gonna make it.

HEY!!! What about the blue lights on the buses on Fordham Road?!??!?!? Sorry, personal opinion, much ado about nothing.

At least they did say that another non white officer was told to cut his hair as well. But then again, any white guy with a haircut like that looks like an idiot anyways.

BFR is correct that the findings are a complete sham. I'm going to give you an example. We got a box the other night for a person on a disabled jet ski by the South Street Seaport. Fairly common occurence. Upon reading the text put in by PD after we turned the units out, the caller stated he was in the Hudson River near a small bridge. Mistake number one by PD, South Street Seaport is on the EAST River. Problem with the caller, he doesn't know where he is, as there are no small bridges over the Hudson. Mistake number 2 by PD, the ANI ALI (Automatic Number Info/Automatic Location Info) puts this fella up in the 120's in Manhattan, and they don't follow up on it. Nevermind the fact he's 5 plus miles north of where PD is telling us he is. FDNY calls him, and asks one simple question, "What do you see around you??" He sees a small grey bridge to one side, and a large blue bridge to the other, when interrogated further, the caller states he sees a History Channel sign near him. He's actually in the HARLEM River, up near the Willis Avenue Bridge. 5 plus minutes into the initial assignment, a new Box is transmitted in the Bronx for the Willis Avenue Bridge, where the man is subsequently aided by Marine Co. 4. Do I really need to go on?? But I will. A few weeks back, Ladder 28 was dispatched to an address for a water leak in a basement apartment. Upon arrival, the officer of Ladder 28 asks for an Engine, and EMS. Yup, you guessed it, the lady in the apartment is pregnant, and her water broke. Don't believe the BS being shoveled out by Bloomberg and his puppet Uncle Nicky. This system is a scam and people are going to suffer. Never mind the fact that PD could be on the phone for 5 minutes with a caller before turning it over to us. It is a disaster waiting to happen.

Hmmm, might be something to look into..Especially with all the garbage going on in FDNY Communications.

FDNY Dispatcher The job is going through a significant change right now. But, all in all, it's not too bad.
