  1. Messed up. Just wrong. Penalty on the Referees association. Unnecessary stupidity.
  2. The gold on the cab is an interesting touch.
  3. It's getting raked over the coals by a number of collectors and apparatus buffs out there. It's way out of scale, amongst other issues. I'm going to pass on this one. I'm with Seth on waiting for the MII. I got plenty of ideas for that rig. I'm also hearing the MII will also be coming out with a tower ladder version, marked for TL-46. However, if they do a version of this marked as Ladder 173 with the stars, stripes and blue front from the 70's, I will bite the bullet and purchase it. Simply because I remember that rig from my childhood.
  4. Awesome drill. Guess I am going to have to get up there when I'm well enough to get some pictures of some tankers.
  5. I'm with the Lieu, I would pay, but would like to know what it's going to. Secondly, since I don't care for PayPal, I would like to have somewhere to mail the check to and who to write it out to. That's it.
  6. Does my heart proud as a veteran.
  7. Like I said in the other thread, check the egos at the door. I'm taking this from my end of the emergency services spectrum. I don't care how many halls you've crawled down, how many babies you've delivered,or traumatic arrests you've worked, how many high profile collars you've made. I don't care how many big ones you've worked on the radio. I don't care if you're paid, or pride is your paycheck. Be it a rockin truck company in Southern Westchester or a Vollie Trolley doing two runs a week. You're no different than me or anyone else. We all have a common goal, and that's doing the right thing by our peers, and the people we have a sworn obligation to protect. There's always room to learn, critique, or just show off some pictures from our latest travels. Let's keep that in mind. Here's my opinion on Facebook. There are some real despicable groups on there, that are much more worthy of the time and effort placed on the anti-Seth G crowd.(F the Troops, anyone??) Like it or not, the people who own these groups have every right to put forth whatever they want to say. We agree, we disagree, we think that person should be taken behind the woodshed, whatever. I have no problem with Facebook, as it has gotten me back in touch with a lot of friends from my childhood, high school years, and my military years. It also got me in touch with my girlfriend, who was a classmate of mine in elementary school nearly 30 years ago.(Although at first she didn't remember me and I had to point to our 4th grade picture to remind her who I was.) In the little more than two years since I joined, I have been able to see and spend time with people who meant, and mean the world to me. Either in person, or online. I've shared in triumph, tragedy, and flat out silliness. It's not a bad thing, nor at times, is it a good thing. It's what you make it. You can use it like any other website out there, to your advantage. I use it, and this site, and a few other sites to my advantage. Just a little nugget of something to ponder. Excellent point brought up about how your actions, positive or negative reflect on the department you are a member of. That includes Facebook. I have already seen what complaining about the mess that FDNY Communications has become can do. We had a page which was nothing more than a bitchfest about this that and the other. Things got posted, it got back to downtown, investigations were launched, and people got some stern talking to's and the page disappeared. If any of you have me on your FB Friends list, you know most of my work related posts are just saying I'm off to work, looking for some fun at work(which is in rare supply these days) and, every other Thursday, the famous line from Goodfellas, FU PAY ME!!!! There's a few pictures of me, off duty, and intoxicated, but hey, I'm 36 years old and I am allowed to drink. It all boils down to using common sense. What would you want your family or friends to see?? Secondly, do you want to put something up there that is going to bring discredit upon you, or the Department you serve?? Spin from Elmont makes a great point, people in this job have looooooooong memories. There's crap that I did when I was a probie, and a dispatcher, and a supervisor that has not been forgotten. One Aw poop will wipe out any Atta Boy's you've had.
  8. And half the stuff they did back then would never be tolerated today.
  9. No, I don't think so George. I did see some familiar faces, and some more familiar rigs from Harry's shots.
  10. Are these Harry Doyles shots??Scratch that, I just looked. Harry was my instructor when I was a probie. I worked with him a few times when I was a dispatcher, and he was my boss a couple of times before he retired. Haven't seen him since he packed it in.
  11. Great pix by the photographer. Talk about takin a lickin.
  12. I think there is always a potential life hazard with stuck elevators, hence it being omitted. Meaning sick passengers, etc. I'm not sure what you mean by upgrading, though. If you mean filling out an alarm due to a second source, we can do that.
  13. Right, wrong, or indifferent, it is a tragic reality that shouldn't be. It's fire protection, not paying for cable. We all pay taxes. Fire protection should be part of the taxes paid.
  14. Here's the pilot program policy. Thx to TBendick and nycfire.net Also wanted to add, Queens dispatchers are also being tasked with classifying the emergencies differently for tracking purposes.
  15. Ridiculous, simply ridiculous. You shouldn't have to subscribe for fire service. If the municipality makes it as part of the tax fees, ok fine. I guess the whole idea of having a duty to act just went out the window. This guy didn't subscribe, so his house burns, but Exposure 4 ante'd up, we'll protect his home. Am I the only one here who thinks this is just a bad idea?
  16. I'm trying to find the criteria for the 10-20 responses. What I remember was water leaks, stuck elevators, ERS boxes after 2300, Pull Boxes(second due engine, first and second due truck), Class E alarms have been modified to a Manhattan style(One Engine, or One Ladder and a BC) response(I think, I have to have the order in front of me). I don't see it in the Department Orders. I'm not really sure what to think of this. The dispatch system is messed up, in the sense that UCT forwards the information before we actually talk to the caller. We don't really get the chance to interrogate before we have to take action. The alarm is dropped in our laps, oftentimes with very little, if any, pertinent information. I like how the reporter puts in that the 10-20 has been ignored for years. What a load. It's followed, when the first arriving company gets there and sees nothing. Other times, if it's a chronic false alarm/defective alarm system, the chief responding may put out the 10-20 as soon as we announce it on the radio. Like I said, I'm not sure what to think of this, but I'm not optimistic that things are going to improve.
  17. Being curious here, is it entirely possible that the Westchester DA is going easy on the kid, although 7 years isn't easy, because it's his first offense?? I'm not condoning the sentence by any means here. Just wondering. Personally, I feel concurrent sentences are a joke.
  18. You bring up a good point. I have heard stories where people have been turned away at firehouses because of "security reasons". It's not out of the realm of possibility. For many of us, it's just a hobby. This is why when I go out and about, I make sure to introduce myself, show my ID/Shield as needed, and explain myself before I ask about pictures. Granted I know one does not have that luxury when photographing aircraft, but what the heck.
  19. Maybe the cop saw something the camera operator didn't. I see no problem with this. What would make you happier?? Would you rather someone was waiting at the dock to inspect the boat prior to it getting underway?? Or, would you rather the operator did something under the influence?? Then I can hear the whiny, complain about everything types wondering where the cops were.
  20. Great shots as always.
  21. Also heard Somers is either spec'ng out a Sutphen TL or it's being built as we speak.
