Usually, IIRC, they were held to kick off, or wind up, the carnivals departments held. I can remember going to the Carmel parade, then the carnival when I was a kid. Maybe hitting the Mahopac, or Patterson one as well. I can remember the whole front yard of Carmel FD, or the parking lot over by Shop Rite filled with rides. And the parking lot at Carmel High filled with rigs. For a 13, 14 year old kid, it was one of the best ways to meet your friends, or hook up with members of the opposite gender. When I was an explorer in Lake Carmel, I went to just about every one. When I was a Firefighter, I went to the ones I could in between my job, or military service. I never thought about a lot of the concerns that have been brought up on this site when it came to coverage, cost, etc. IMHO, with the economy still tanking, gas prices going up, and the lack of interest, I think this is a trend that's going to grow. Tom, I like the idea of a countywide yearly parade. I think that's what you're going to see in the future. PS, if you guys have one for your centennial. I will be there. TF I hope I explained it well enough for you. There are still parades for certain holidays where one may get a few rigs and members from local departments. They are still pretty big deals out on Long Island. A lot of the guys I work with talk about the big ones in this town or that town.

Putnam County apparatus numbering system maybe found at the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services, as well as dispatching and radio use procedures, Putnam uses a 4 digit identifier for all apparatus: FIRST TWO DIGITS identify the department: 11 = Brewster Fire Department
12 = Carmel Fire Department
13 = Cold Spring Fire Department
14 = Continental Village Fire Department
15 = Garrison Fire Department
16 = Kent Fire Department
17 = Lake Carmel Fire Department
18 = Mahopac Fire Department
19 = Mahopac Falls Fire Department
21 = North Highlands Fire Department
22 = Patterson Fire Department Department
23 = Putnam Lake Fire Department 24 = Putnam Valley Fire Department 31 = Carmel Ambulance Corps 32 = Garrison Ambulance Corps 33 = Philipstown Ambulance Corps 34 = Putnam Valley Ambulance Corps 35 = Medic Units: County Medics / BLS will be identified as: Medic 1 - Philipstown / Garrison Unit Medic 2 - Putnam Valley Unit / Continental Village Medic 3 - Carmel / Kent / Mahopac / Mahopac Falls Medic 4 –Brewster / Patterson / Lake Carmel BLS 4 - Brewster / Patterson / Lake Carmel THIRD DIGIT identifies type of apparatus:1 = Chief Vehicle, 2 = Pumper, 3 = Brush Truck or Mini-Pumper, 4 = Tanker, 5 = Aerial Apparatus, 6 = Rescue Vehicles, 7 = EMS Vehicles FOURTH DIGIT is the number of the unit within the department. For example: 22-2-3 would be Patterson Fire Department (22), engine (2), third in the department (3) I cleaned it up a bit for you, pal. Is there any mention of 8 and 9?? I was under the impression 8 is a utility type vehicle, and 9 is an officer.

LA County has a few Tin House style firehouses as temporary structures while permanent houses are being built. First time I have ever seen a tent as a temp, though. Nice find.
-
Yup. It's at least the second or third rig LCFD has given to other agencies in Putnam. Kent PD had one of the old ambulances, I saw the old brush rig being used by Kent Highway, I think.
-
The old 17-6-1 looks like an Army Truck now.
-
I can tell you this much, they have separate housewatches, and separate voice alarms. I think the houses are now connected in the rear of the firehouse(s).

It's a 64 foot SAFEBoat, I liken it to a Coast Guard Rescue Boat on Roids. It's named the Bravest and will replace the Kevin Kane as Marine Company 6. The Kane will be kept as a spare. Not the greatest shots because of weather and where the boat is moored up. Pump Capacity is 6,000 GPM, the top Monitor is rated for 5,000 GPM. Top Speed of 46 Knots(Over 50 MPH)Enjoy!! With the Mc Kean and Firefighter behind it.

I was thinking about this today, as I did my trek from the girlfriends house, down the Thruway, to the Chateau. I did only see one speed trap, but I am kinda surprised I didn't see any troopers sitting near a work zone. It was along the left shoulder and although there were cans out, there were people still whipping past me like I was standing still, and I was in the center lane doing 70. I did see another trooper with someone pulled over the other day on 17, and nobody backing him up, and most people moving over. I think it's catching on.

Folks don't seem to use common sense. Now, you have to be reminded.
-
The boat is staffed 24/7. I'm not sure what the hull/superstructure is built of, I would say aluminum. I'm pretty sure the SAFEboat site has more info.
-
I dunno if it's been asked, but does this new boat have a name aside from the new Engine 58??Scratch that, just got a closer look. The Christopher Wheatley.

Seth, you got defensive. I've been to most of those museums. And I have to agree with the opinions of the folks here. They aren't worth more than one or two trips. Last I remember, the LA County Museum is in a big garage out in Bellflower, as I was out there last year. Philadelphias is small, Bostons is tiny, the Hall of Flame was impressive to a point. With the economy being the way it is, a lot of people may not want to spend money out of their pockets, either through the dreaded taxes, or through donations. Maybe one day the display at 60 can be expanded into something larger and not rotated, but it's a question of money. One thing the NYC Fire Museum does is holds events, so that helps fund it. There are plenty of places where one can see the rich history of Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services. I'm just another guy on this site who disagrees with the idea that Westchester could use one at this time, or somewhere down the road.

I am going to attempt to keep my calm on this one, but how selfish, and cowardly do you have to be to do something like this to three innocent children??? I believe in heaven and hell, and there is a special place in hell for Mommy Dearest and a special place in heaven for those poor kids. The mother should have just walked over to the freight line along the water, and taken her own miserable life.

Wasn't this borught up before??

Great idea, bad time.

I liked one of the comments posted by a reader. I've never seen a dead cat on a roof. He is absolutely right. Leave some food at the bottom of the tree or outside, the cat will find its way down soon enough.

Very impressive.
